    The first big controversy of box office in the sixth months since I’ve been reporting erupted this AM as Paramount Pictures put the final three-day domestic cume of Transformers: Age of Extinction at $100.038M as its opening weekend for the fourth installment. “They’re lying,” said one distribution head at a major studio. Said another, “I don’t get get it.  Is it just arrogance? What is the point of inflating your box office numbers? So they can claim the first $100M movie opening of the year? Oh please, who cares? It’s a great opening anyway.”

    One distribution executive put it this way, “Looking at Rentrak, at this time the average for the three-days is $22.964M, representing a total gross for three days of $97.76M. Rentrak collected 97% of the grosses for the three days.  In my humble opinion, it would be impossible for $100M to be reported.”

     

     

    I'm confused at the bolded.  If 97% of the collected money (Rentrak) put it at $97.76M then wouldn't the other 3% likely put it over $100M?

    Loved it.

     

    Right now I'd rank it above TF1 but that's probably because I've seen TF1 one too many times.

     

    Didn't miss Shia at all.  His character got more irritating with every movie.  New characters are fine... not great but I think they'll get better in the next movie.  Bay tries force his characters into big 'emotional' situations and it typically makes them look stupid.

     

    Typical Bay forced humor... but no where as bad as TF2. ( is anything? )

     

    I liked the story and felt the pacing was fine... I never felt it was too long and was sorry it was over.

     

    I'm already excited for the next one.

    Just doesn't make sense to me. It's a LIVE sporting event, dude. If you're not able to watch it live, tough nuts. 

     

    The lack of respect for the Mods here lately is out of control.

     

    The sports spoiler policy is

    3) And Tele reminded people 2-3 times.

    Well, it is understandable that she would say something like that on Woman's Hour, and considering her focus on such issues I can see how she could say she was aware of the metaphor. That doesn't mean it was the directors goal for the scene. And even if it was, I think they pulled it off well, thanks primarily to Jolie's performance.

     

    The director has said that it wasn't the main goal to portray it as rape but could understand those that see it that way.

     

    This is a lot like Frozen's 'Let it Go' where many groups wanted to believe or used the scene as a metaphor for their cause.

     

    People will seen what they want into scenes like that.

     

    When I saw the movie the though 'rape' never crossed my mind when I saw that scene.

     

    I saw a weakling desperate for power who knew that killing Maleficent would give him that power.. did not have the guts to do it.  With her power there is no way he could have taken her wings so he had to drug her.  The drugging was simply a plot convenience.

    If you think that you dont know what a classic is all about. Dragon 2 had everything. Frozen and Dragon 1 do not

     

    Which is why everyone is rushing out to see it. [/sarcasm]

     

    The story is kinda of a mess.

     

    Drago's motivation really makes no sense.

    Hiccup's moms story is contrived and makes little sense.

    Secondary characters are weak and their actions make little sense.

     

    I enjoyed it but have little desire to see it again.  After giving it time to settle I think the 1st Dragon had a much better story.
