No surprise Ghostbusters is fading fast. Once you get past the nostalgia it’s a mediocre film that relies way too much on fan service
Exactly what kind of B.O take should GBA have during a pandemic ? It will beat the atrocious 2016 film on half the budget and in a year where the biggest film in the U.S has done a little over 220 million.

Just dropped by to say that Fulci’s Zombie flesheaters is the best zombie movie ever by a mile. 11/10 for me. From the opening scene , with the late, great Richard Johnson (was he a huge asset of this film or what ?) , to the last scene , this is the most nightmarish zombie film ever. You can basically smell the stench of these zombies and the atmosphere is second to none. Music is monumental (Fabio Frizzi, a genius) and as far as memorable scenes go I don’t even know where to begin and where to end. Scream 10/10, and Zombi 7.5/10 ? O.k.....😎😎

Looks amazingly awful. Stop whoring these franchises Universal. I hope it flops, even though I guess with blumhouse’s tiny budgets this is impossible , At least it seems that it won’t break out. Oh well there’s always the B&W films.

As usual people in this forum are giving too much credit to political stuff when action/comic book movies fail or succeed. 99% of the audience doesn’t even care about such stuff, the movies succeed or fail on their own. GB2016 didn’t fail because it had women, it failed because it was horrible. BP didn’t do over 600 million overseas because it had an almost all black cast, it did because people liked it. The new Star Wars films has young actors (male, female, black, white) that were devoid of any kind of charisma. The new Terminator also suffered from this, the young actresses were awful and the presence of Linda Hamilton only made this more apparent , since an old Linda Hamilton looked about a million times more charismatic than the young actresses in there. The Rock, Will Smith e.t.c are the biggest stars right now. Joaquin Phoenix carried a drama to over a billion dollars. When people are using political excuses to explain why shit like the new Charlie’s angels movie failed (another film with the blandest possible stars unlike the older films which, while being awful too, at least had charismatic female leads) you know that these arguements hold no weight whatsoever.

Aquaman was a joy to watch and as far away from Snyder’s style as possible. It might not have been the best CBM or whatever but it was a very enjoyable film even to people that don’t give a shit about comics while the Snyder movies were basically torture for anyone that didn’t care about comics and even for many comic book fans.

This. Venom was a big fan favorite, Morbius is a Grade "B" villain and a a rather generic vampire.
Sony kept the budget down on this, so they might end up with a modest profit, but it ain't gonna do Venom numbers.
Morbius is anything but generic.

Trailer looks better than expected. It has the correct vibe. I guess it is directly tied to the MCU already since Keaton plays the vulture here as well. Jarred Harris , great as always. The full vampiric morbius face looks exactly like the comics. Should be fun.

The wonderful seventies Marvel horror universe deserves so much more than a Sony Morbius movie or even an MCU new blade film.

Looks disgusting based on the trailer. Third rate Hollow man wannabe. Shame on Universal for whoring out their properties to such results. Oh well, watching shit like the new suspiria, the new black Christmas and more bombing gives me hope....

Imagine using MCU, Batman, Starwars and James Bond as examples to try and claim Harry Potter isn’t huge. It’s almost as if there can be more than one huge property at a time.
You don’t have to like HP. But to act like it isn’t huge is being in denial or being a straight up hater...a term I dislike to use but when the stats and numbers are all there to prove an IP is huge and you’re still claiming it isn’t, I don’t know what else to refer to you as.
I never claimed it wasn’t huge, I claimed that it wasn’t this amazing b.o phenomenon that some were trying to present.
-
Both HP and esp. twilight are pure shit. If we start counting 8 or 10 or whatever movies, obviously the avengers kill everything, Star Wars and LOTR is up there, BATMAN could be counted too ,James Bond is the biggest phenomenon ever going strong for 50 years and so on and so on.

Some people forget just how dominant and enormous Potter was.
DH2, in today's market, would have had a $215m OW, and over $400m OS for $615m+ WW OW. China would have been enormous for DH2. $1.6b-$1.7b WW finish.
That’s because it was never dominant. Would have, should have, could have, even with your baseless assumptions (really doubt China would go crazy over this boring and with minimum action franchise Nevermind that the euro is far weaker compared to the dollar these days making the european grosses suspect) , 1.6 billion wouldn’t exactly make it dominant in today’s box office world.

If TLJ was more liked by the fans it would have done around 1.5 billion and TROS similar numbers worldwide, great numbers but not earth shattering ones. The problem is that the new characters are nobodies as actors and charisma vacuums, the exact of opposite of the first Star Wars films that had charismatic young actors like Ford, Williams, Fisher and gigantic legends like Cushing and Guinness. Also TFA was so bland, Lucas had the right idea for a beautiful universe in the prequels even if he fucked up other aspects.

bracing myself for people on a box office forum to claim that a 373M global opening to a film that cost $250M to make is bad.
No it is actually an amazing result, unprecedented. Congratulations to TROS.

Disappointing. The combined efforts of talent like James Cameron and Tim Miller amounted to basically nothing. As generic for a terminator film as they come. The biggest problem, apart from being the exact same film with T2 and 3 , is that the new characters lack any sort of charisma, is it so fucking hard for such a production to find some charismatic actors ? Robert Patrick had more charisma in one of his fingers than all of the new actors combined. Where is a new young actress with the charisma of Linda Hamilton in this thing ? The new characters are booooring and so are the non-action scenes. The action is great but in the age of the F&F films, the superhero films e.t.c this isn’t that big of a deal. Also not having any sort of horror elements that even T2 (with the menacing Robert Patrick) had, hurts the film. I actually prefer T3 to this, at least the female terminator vs. Arnie had a small curiosity factor, this new one has nothing. It is basically a superhero film where everyone is a superhero vs. a mega villain of sorts.
Not a bad time at the theater but damn I expected so much more. The franchise is over. Things like this make me feel better for never getting a The Thing true sequel, one classic and done.

If you don't set records, you're an underperformer, apparently.
Or if you have fanboys not being able to shut up for over a year about it in this forum.

Didn't you predict Spiderman to be the bigger than Lion king this month !!!!!
Actually the only thing that I ever wrote is that people are underpredicting spider man while overpredicting TLK and frozen 2 (another film where we will have a lot of backpedaling in the near future) but the truth has never stopped people from spewing bullshit in this forum. Hell some folks were insulted because i wrote that the shining book has sold much more than what Kubrick’s movie made at the box office.

Bububut the original lion king had done this and that a few centuries ago and this was bound to explode and become the biggest movie of the 21st century. Those were the days.......

It's going to sell nearly 20 million tickets in a single weekend, of course it's an event, especially for families. I'm guessing you didn't think BatB was an event either? Because this is on the same level. Not everything needs to have mega fanboy hype to be an event, it's still doing well.
The lion king remake has had mega fanboy hype for over a year. It is the only disney remake that actually had fanboy hype. It wasn’t until the bad reviews that the hype started to decrease. Even in this box office “experts” forum people were going wild for it last summer with all sorts of crazy predictions and they were deadly serious. Of course now they sing a different tune...

I believe this forum has no idea what they're talking about half the time these days. Some need meds for all the doom and gloom they spew.
Like in what goddamn universe is 180-190 million bad. That's huge money. But but, tracking suggested. . .just stop.
The Lion King is not going to flop, it's going to do well over a billion worldwide, and be one of the biggest films of the year. And, as nature always intended, Disney will be top dog of the year.
People have been going crazy for this lion king thing for years in this forum writing essay after essay about why it would break every record imaginable. So yeah it is not going to “flop” but everything is compared to expectations esp. expectations from 2018. Bragging about how it will do “over a billion” is silly.

Weekend Thread (12/3-5)
in Numbers and Data

The 2016 film did 128 million in the U.S and GBA will be at over 100 million after this weekend during a pandemic. I don’t know if SM:NWH will perform a miracle but up until now the biggest film in the U.S has done 226 million, because the B.O hasn’t recovered . Nevermind that, at half the budget and during the pandemic, GBA will do better worldwide than the 2016 atrocity.
One look at the numbers the biggest B.O hits have done in the U.S this year versus 2016 is enough.
