TLK is going to make a pile of money.  But there were predictions of 2 billion floating around here.  Just a bit outside.

Of course there were. In fact a year ago many were predicting that it would be the n.1 movie of 2019 , the posts are still there for all to see. Naturally we will see a lot of backpedaling, it has already begun, but people were expecting this to be THE event of 2019. Now these people will defend how successful it is as if there was any chance that it wouldn’t achieve good box office results. Anyway let’s see the legs and how it will actually perform outside of the U.S.

No no I mean the actual horror community outside of BOT lol: bloody disgusting, twitter, shockwaves, Blumhouse podcasts, Facebook groups etc.

Plus, there’s only about 3 horror fans left on this forum now 😂

It’s cute how you think that you are actually a serious horror fan.

    Oof. That's gonna polarize people.

It's weird, because whether King fans like it or not, The Shining is really Kubrick's legacy now. Interested to see how it plays out.

The book is massively more successful than the Kubrick film. It is also much better and the story actually makes sense unlike Kubrick’s film plus the book  has way better characterization for the main characters. The Kubrick film is famous for Nicholson’s performance not as a film overall. Anyway with over 350 million books sold King is a much more successful writer than Kubrick ever was as a director.

  4. Seems quite different to the book. This seem to try to sell itself as a pure sequel to “the shining” with all the ghosts and stuff while in the book all this is a small part and the soul eaters , not vampires, are the main villains. The book is definitely not as horror-oriented as this trailer seems to be imply about the film version but it is understandable that they will take huge liberties for box office purposes.

It still did more than IW OS-C. I don’t see how it’s time to throw the towel with barely a month of the film’s release. I remember last year how people didn’t think that IW would cross $2B, and yet here we are.

I always believed that IW will cross 2 billion and posted it during its entire run, despite not being satisfied with its U.S run. I don’t believe that there’s any chance for EG to pass Avatar and at this point I don’t even care TBH.

I will say something now that I think it might be seen as laughable now, and I do concede that we have Jatinder, Fake and several better people to project international numbers than me but here it goes:

I think we are overstimating the effect that KOTM, DP and TS4 will have for Endgame. Pure gut feeling, just like I never felt that Pokémon would be a higher threat to its box office than DP2. I might be completely wrong, but just putting out there.

It has already collapsed internationally, did you see the numbers it did for the entire week ? It is over, time to accept it and move on, still had an amazing run.

  7. Hahaha, why people underestimate the new spider man film , when it comes to worldwide, I have no idea (instead we are reading about the battle of frozen 2 vs lion king). Nevermind they will learn their lesson soon just like they did with endgame. Hell the new Star Wars has an excellent chance of surpassing these two children films worldwide.

Can't remember the first part but the second is just trying to twist reality to make me look bad.

Saying a country doesn't make much box office isn't racism, which I believe that is what you are insuinating? It's almost as if you're suggesting racist comments were made, can you clarify please.

edit: I just read your post from 1 minute ago, so you weren't talking about me I see. I still don't remember any hate towards those countries in the Alita thread.

There were definitely digs against India basically mocking its culture, about how alita should have dancing or stuff like that (as if other Hollywood films don’t do great there), definitely digs against South America and so on. Sorry not searching that embarrassment of a thread , anyone who was following it knows what was written.

Whey they mock Endgame or Avengers in general saying and "And what, Endgame broke records in like... X country" is always some Latin American country. I'm tired of their condescendence.

But the Avatar gang made perfectly clear their thoughts about Latam during Alita run so I'm not surprised

The only person that I have on ignore is a Cameron fan who accused me of being Greek, racism is in the blood of some people and the mods generally allow it in this forum. In the Alita thread I saw digs against South America, India e.t.c.

Ancillaries roughly (very roughly) cover the non-production costs, for a movie that does healthy business in that regard.

Oh so we go to the magic home market, got it. Bottom line it will not make a profit from its theater run , instead it will actually lose money unless it somehow explodes. Yep, another great 300+ million investment and then the long wait for ancillaries to save it.

Aladdin has a very reasonable DOM:China:ROW split. It’ll likely be profitable at 500, could see it finishing 600+ with the good reception in lots of areas.

How would a movie with a 200 million production budget (which translates to over 300 million total budget)  be profitable at 500 million worldwide ?

  12. Aladdin needs quite a big box office gross to turn even a small profit with its almost 200 million budget and what is certainly a substantial marketing budget. Disney spared no expenses marketing this movie so I would say than an 150 million marketing budget is possible so we are already at 300-350 million cost. Needs around 750-800 million to be profitable, not a real cash cow by any means and considering that it is following the flop Dumbo and the other flop Marry Poppins, these Disney remakes/reboots don’t seem like a great idea.

Maybe I am way off base, but how is Shivampa trolling for expressing himself with reactions? Maybe he doesn’t like the numbers being posted. Sorry, but I don’t see that as trolling. If he is going to be part of this board, he will have the same privileges as everyone else, unless mods say otherwise.

Agreed , either drop the emotions completely or don’t whine about them.
