Hopefully the rest of Asia can follow suit to make up for the underwhelming DOM numbers. Very interested in China in particular — correlation with SK is far from perfect but it does make me slightly more hopeful.

What underwhelming dom numbers, people are up in arms because I dared to write that it’s ow in the U.S is disappointing .

So name the last film to double it's opening weekend from the previous film.  I know they are out there, and I'm not going to look them up, but my guess is most of them are films that were modest hits (grossed 75 mill or less in the first film) that went on to have a big HV discovery and then the next film blew up.  I don't think there are many films that did well in their first chapter that went on to double the opening weekend in the next one.  AMATW is going to open to about 50% more than the last.  That's pretty damn good.

You say you understand the box office but from time to time, you post things that indicate otherwise.

I understand the box office as good as the majority in this forum that makes predictions for various movies and then acts as if these predictions never happened while singing kumbaya.

As for your question, matrix 27 million ow, matrix2 91 ow. POTC 47 million, POTC2 136 million. I could find more if I put my mind into it and neither the first matrix nor the first POTC were minor hits and it’s not like the first ant man was a box office juggernaut.

    Back to reality?

I wouldn't be surprised if Ant-Man 3 increases another 30-40 percent like just a out every Marvel sequel/threequel due to the well spun and newly minted team dynamic.

I have that Zackwhatever guy on ignore but reading him talk about nerds through your quote is priceless. Fun fact AATW will still do better worldwide than justice league and come extremely close to the citizen Kane/apocalypse now/The Godfather/the best movie of all time Wonder Woman worldwide.

Exactly - it is just your opinion.  You are the only one complaining the movie didn't open to over $100 mill.  It opened great - you are the only one disappointed - you seem to thrive on being disappointed.

Yes, I am obviously writing my opinion. Why should I care if I am the only one disappointed, which isn’t true anyway, one look at the predictions is enough. I am expressing my opinion in a nice manner without insulting anyone.

Or again opening after I2 and JW2 both over $150M OWs mind you, which targeted both of its main demos and despite not hitting $100M OW (which would’ve have to jump almost more than almost any other MCU movie to sequel) had an excellent sequel jump nonetheless.

Nah it had all the potential in the world for an over 100 million opening, which isn’t even outlandish or anything by today’s standards. Great marketing, amazing brand power (MCU) , great cast of both “young” and veteran actors covering every demographic and again it is my own personal opinion that the whole ant man concept , unlike what other people think, has big potential with today’s technology being used in films.

  6. It seems that AATW didn’t really move American families. Bland , at the lower end of estimates ,debut, didn’t seem like it worked as a great kiddie-friendly family film and the addition of a female character did shit for the film, I doubt it would have done worse without the wasp.

On paper it was the perfect summer film, but obviously marvel has done something a bit wrong with the franchise from the start, maybe making it too comical and kiddie friendly, cause unlike some people I find the ant man concept with the visual effects and scenes it can provide quite lucrative.

Anyway I hope marvel can learn a lesson and don’t attempt to make the fantastic four too comedic and family-friendly, when they get their rights.

That writer on deadline throwing solo and JL under the bus to sugar coat Wasp. Last i heard none of them cost 300 million plus either he must put marketing into account here. Just so unprofessional of him :gold:

Both solo and esp. JL had huge budgets and very troubled productions. No he doesn’t put marketing to come up with the 300 million budgets , have you been living under a rock or something ?

Anyway extremely disappointing result for AATW even if it does better than what deadline is projecting.

People need to watch more movies if they think IW was anything more than mediocre. Too many of the actors phoned in their performances. Many scenes were redundant while others were flat out boring. Worse yet, Part II is guaranteed to make Part I a pointless waste of time. Raise your standards, people!

    That’s so cute...

I think it's unlikely we see a standalone sequel anytime soon.  Clearly, it's not a priority for them.  Kevin is a master at PR-speak.  Most of it has turned to gold for him, but he knows how to cover up (or literally just avoid) questions, as well.

Doctor strange 2 coming relatively soon is a given, I don’t understand wth you are talking about. The first was a decent hit worldwide, the character had a great presence in IW and great potential for a sequel. It’s 100% that we will see a second standalone film which will crush the first one at the box office.

Disgusting run time for Skyscraper. Luckily McQuarrie and Cruise are coming to save the summer with a 147 minute run time

What’s so disgusting about a straight action film having a 93 minute runtime without the credits (which translates to around 100 minutes total runtime) ? Seems quite normal to me .

Dayum, JW2 with another great hold. When is that shitty wom going to start kicking in Thrylos??

You really have issues , don’t you, you know you can post without mentioning me right ?

Anyway why people are acting as if this isn’t a holiday period in the U.S basically making the Friday-Wednesday period a long weekend, I have no idea. Now that this period is over the crawling towards 400 million, only 260 million less than the first, for JW2 will start and it still won’t probably make it.

Ant-Man and the Wasp probably would've benefitted more had they actually broadened the scope from the first movie like they did with Thor: Ragnarok (which was clearly a much more distinctive outing than either of the previous two Thor movies) and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. As it stands it's clearly looking to be a minor (lol) entry in the Marvel canon compared to their obvious big guns.

The thing is that it’s anothet CBM flavor and the sequel looks quite a bit bigger than the original and , when all is said and done, it’s worldwide box office take will compare very favorably with winter soldier  and maybe even Thor 3.

Guys, it's terrible but it really seems The Avengers Infinity War definitely killed my interest in comicbook movies!!!

And no it's not because it was bad, that's the other way around: it was just so good that it was the ultimate superhero movie to me, I can't see anything coming after that being better. That's quite a shock but this movie just gave me everything I ever wanted for a superhero movie, I'm afraid the next movies will look pale in comparison..

The only exception is Captain Marvel, I just want to see her because i have a good feeling about her but that's pretty much it.

I have a feeling that after A4 which is basically IW2 , is released a slight CBM fatigue will happen.

I only checked a couple theaters but looks line the incredibles is getting the double feature treatment w/ ant-man. Not black panther.

It’s the most logical pairing though I would prefer BP , to get the prestigious 700 million, or IW to help a bit with its domestic take . Both films seem a bit heavy for pairing them with something like AATW.

Good news is that AM&W is doing pretty well on its OD in HK, despite so-so pre-sales. It seems like people would still go to see the movie in theaters, but don't feel the need to buy tickets in advance. After all it is not an event movie like BP or IW.

Hope it does the same domestically.

It also did amazing on its od in S.Korea , over double the first and almost as good as Thor:r that opened on a holiday. Ant man was already quite strong overseas and the signs for the second film look good thus far.
