  1. All right! Well looks like they're getting entered in! FYI I'm hitting the hay for the night - I'll be here again between 10 and noon (somewhere in that region) to check on your lists and stuff. See you all in the late AM/early PM!
  2. You covered quite a bit and it's ok! As long as you have 5 entries that weren't listed earlier, you can put them there! Rosemary's Baby is a phenomenal film and definitely a horror gem. Coraline is an underrated animated film IMO, while Alien is a great sci-fi thriller and a solid pick. Haven't seen the others but they all definitely give the list character! Thanks for posting, Lisa!
  3. Love The Fly!! Haven't seen the others but again it helps add some credibility to the list So here's the list at the moment with 181 movies right now (I'm assuming Toy Story 3D=Toy Story 3): Only 819 until 1000 and 1319 until the 1500 maximum for nominees [*]A Voyage to the Moon (1902) [*]The Great Train Robbery (1903) [*]The Birth of a Nation (1915) [*]Intolerance (1916) [*]The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920) [*]Nosferatu (1922) [*]The Thief of Bagdad (1924) [*]Battleship Potempkin (1925) [*]The Gold Rush (1925) [*]The Phantom of the Opera (1925) [*]The General (1927) [*]Sunrise (1927) [*]Metropolis (1928) [*]Steamboat Bill Jr. (1928) [*]All Quiet on the Western Front (1930) [*]The Blue Angel (1930) [*]Dracula (1931) [*]M (1931) [*]The Public Enemy (1931) [*]The Gold Diggers of 1933 (1933) [*]King Kong (1933) [*]It Happened One Night (1934) [*]Triumph of the Will (1934) [*]Modern Times (1936) [*]The Awful Truth (1937) [*]Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937) [*]The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938) [*]Stagecoach (1939) [*]The Wizard of Oz (1939) [*]His Girl Friday (1940) [*]The Grapes of Wrath (1940) [*]Citizen Kane (1941) [*]Dumbo (1941) [*]The Maltese Falcon (1941) [*]Casablanca (1942) [*]Double Indemnity (1944) [*]It’s a Wonderful Life (1946) [*]The Postman Always Rings Twice (1946) [*]Black Narcissius (1947) [*]Bicycle Thieves (1948) [*]The Third Man (1949) [*]Rashomon (1950) [*]A Streetcar Named Desire (1951) [*]Ikiru (1952) [*]Gojira (1954) [*]On the Waterfront (1954) [*]Rear Window (1954) [*]Seven Samurai (1954) [*]Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956) [*]Paths of Glory (1957) [*]The Seventh Seal (1957) [*]Wild Strawberries (1957) [*]The Hidden Fortress (1958) [*]Ben-Hur (1959) [*]North by Northwest (1959) [*]Psycho (1960) [*]Dr. No (1962) [*]Lawrence of Arabia (1962) [*]The Manchurian Candidate (1962) [*]Dr. Strangelove (1964) [*]Doctor Zhivago (1965) [*]The Battle of Algiers (1966) [*]The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly (1966) [*]The Graduate (1967) [*]Le Samourai (1967) [*]2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) [*]Once Upon a Time in the West (1968) [*]Rosemary's Baby (1968) [*]Yellow Submarine (1968) [*]Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969) [*]The Conformist (1970) [*]Five Easy Pieces (1970) [*]A Clockwork Orange (1971) [*]The French Connection (1971) [*]The Godfather (1972) [*]Day for Night (1973) [*]Soylent Green (1973) [*]Blazing Saddles (1974) [*]Chinatown (1974) [*]Mirror (1975) [*]Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975) [*]One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975) [*]The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975) [*]Annie Hall (1977) [*]A Bridge Too Far (1977) [*]Eraserhead (1977) [*]Star Wars (1977) [*]Days of Heaven (1978) [*]Halloween (1978) [*]Alien (1979) [*]Apocalypse Now (1979) [*]Monty Python’s Life of Brian (1979) [*]The Muppet Movie (1979) [*]Stalker (1979) [*]The Elephant Man (1980) [*]Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) [*]E.T. We've got 209 films as of now - only 791 until we reach 1000 and 1291 until the 1500 nominee limit!
  4. Well we come to the first vote! Should the following be nominated? Alvin 1 or 2 Happy Feet 2 Mamma Mia Barnyard Shrek 4 But Films I love how you had so much animation on your list, especially Aardman! Plus Shrek and Despicable Me! Mostly decent picks aside from the questionable ones above
  5. You're lucky I like 2 of those otherwise I'd pop a vein lol you should put a real one though!
  6. Nod of the hat for The Hidden Fortress, Star Trek II - Wrath of Khan, First Blood, Army of Darkness and Police Story - those aren't your typical movie list choices
  7. Some solid picks Dexter! I like the many foreign films you got there and Dumbo's gotta be on somewhere really some great picks so far from everybody! So far, we've got 137 films listed and here they are, in order: [*]A Voyage to the Moon (1902) [*]The Great Train Robbery (1903) [*]The Birth of a Nation (1915) [*]Intolerance (1916) [*]The Cabinet of Dr. (1928) [*]All Quiet on the Western Front (1930) [*]The Blue Angel (1930) [*]Dracula (1931) [*]M (1931) [*]The Public Enemy (1931) [*]The Gold Diggers of 1933 (1933) [*]King Kong (1933) [*]It Happened One Night (1934) [*]Triumph of the Will (1934) [*]The Awful Truth (1937) [*]Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937) [*]The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938) [*]Stagecoach (1939) [*]The Wizard of Oz (1939) [*]His Girl Friday (1940) [*]The Grapes of Wrath (1940) [*]Citizen Kane (1941) [*]Dumbo (1941) [*]The Maltese Falcon (1941) [*]Casablanca (1942) [*]It’s a Wonderful Life (1946) [*]The Postman Always Rings Twice (1946) [*]Bicycle Thieves (1948) [*]Rashomon (1950) [*]Ikiru (1952) [*]Gojira (1954) [*]On the Waterfront (1954) [*]Rear Window (1954) [*]Seven Samurai (1954) [*]Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956) [*]Paths of Glory (1957) [*]The Seventh Seal (1957) [*]Wild Strawberries (1957) [*]The Hidden Fortress (1958) [*]Ben-Hur (1959) [*]North by Northwest (1959) [*]Psycho (1960) [*]Dr. No (1962) [*]The Manchurian Candidate (1962) [*]Dr. Strangelove (1964) [*]Doctor Zhivago (1965) [*]The Battle of Algiers (1966) [*]The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly (1966) [*]The Graduate (1967) [*]2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) [*]Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969) [*]A Clockwork Orange (1971) [*]The Godfather (1972) [*]Soylent Green (1973) [*]Blazing Saddles (1974) [*]Chinatown (1974) [*]Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975) [*]The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975) [*]Annie Hall (1977) [*]A Bridge Too Far (1977) [*]Star Wars (1977) [*]Halloween (1978) [*]Monty Python’s Life of Brian (1979) [*]The Muppet Movie (1979) [*]The Elephant Man (1980) [*]Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) [*]E.T. 8. I just think it's vastly overrated and didn't deserve to be in a list of films to see before you die. Again, it's an opinion and an unpopular one at that but it's what I think
  9. Well I've decided it's 25 maximum so you're good! And you deserve kudos for thinking outside of the box with your picks - love that you put Sixteen Candles on there! Everyone, you're allowed to have up to 25 films on your list so Telemachos and Spaghetti, you can edit your lists to include more films if you so choose! In fact, I'll add 5 more myself 1. Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956) 2. Soylent Green (1973) 3. The Muppet Movie (1979) 4. The Goonies (1985) 5. Anchorman - The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004) Here's the list to date - 1. Side Effects (2013) 92 films listed as of now, only 908 to go till we reach 1000, and 1408 until the 1500 nominee limit
  10. I only dislike A Hard Day's Night because it's obvious it was only made to capitalize on the Beatles' popularity but the music is phenomenal BTW, here's the first 62 entires in order 1. A Voyage to the Moon (1902) 2. The Great Train Robbery (1903) 3. Intolerance (1916) 4. The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920) 5. Nosferatu (1922) 6. The Thief of Bagdad (1924) 7. 11. RDJ is the only actor to play Iron Man...
  12. I was just joking around but I kinda disdain the movie. However, it's not my choice so it's whatever everyone here votes in! Same with Out of Africa and The English Patient!
  13. That would actually be a smart way of bringing in an urban audience... let's remove the thread before Disney gets any ideas!!!
  14. Yeah The Muppet Movie is not animation and I would be baffled at anyone who consider it one. pretty sure Kermit's a 3D figure that Jim Henson and co. actually made and used real sets and actors to make the films
  15. I'm changing out The General from my ballot to Steamboat Bill Jr. since Telemachos listed it, really appreciate how you listed all of those silent classics! Can't have everything be from after 1980! So far we have 62 films! Only 938 before we reach 1000 and 1438 until we reach the limit of 1500 nominees
  16. FYI, the following three films would be preferably not on the list - 1. A Hard Day's Night (1964) 2. Out of Africa (1985) 3. The English Patient (1996) Hahahaha But of course, if everyone wants them on I won't object... but The Muppet Movie WILL have a slot on this list So far, I like what I see... and I guess I can move the maximum to a set number of 25 so that everyone has an easier time. Also, 1500 is the maximum number of nominees for the list and the first 100 listed are all guarenteed a spot on the list.
  17. Well it's easier to keep count and debate on them if they're posted here but I'm okay with either
  18. Well I was planning on posting the lists that appear each time someone puts 20 new movies in it seems this list has everyone thinking!! Here's the first 40 in order at the moment 1. The General (1927) 2. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937) 3. The Wizard of Oz (1939) 4. Casablanca (1942) 5. It’s a Wonderful Life (1946) 6. On the Waterfront (1954) 7. Rear Window (1954) 8. Psycho (1960) 9. Dr. Strangelove (1964) 10. The Graduate (1967) 11. 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) 12. The Godfather (1972) 13. The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975) 14. Annie Hall (1977) 15. Star Wars (1977) 16. Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) 17. E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial (1982) 18. Back to the Future (1985) 19. Ran (1985) 20. The Princess Bride (1987) 21. My Neighbor Totoro (1988) 22. Who Framed Roger Rabbit? (1988) 23. Do the Right Thing (1989) 24. Edward Scissorhands (1990) 25. Goodfellas (1990) 26. Beauty and the Beast (1991) 27. Forrest Gump (1994) 28. Pulp Fiction (1994) 29. The Shawshank Redemption (1994) 30. Toy Story (1995) 31. Fargo (1996) 32. The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) 33. Spirited Away (2001) 34. Oldboy (2003) 35. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) 36. Ratatouille (2007) 37. WALL-E (2008) 38. The Social Network (2010) 39. The Avengers (2012) 40. Cloud Atlas (2012)
  19. To make it a collective effort since there'd be a lot of people who would put 100 or 200 whereas 20 makes it easier to keep a tally. But I can up it to a maximum of 35 to make things run a little faster Personally, I think 20 is a nice round number and it gives the list a little character
  20. Great entries! And it's only if the film in question is universally panned... as long as the film can get enough defenders, it'll be safe from removal. That part is something I'm still working on!
  21. It's not a voting list but something like Transformers 2 or Madea Goes to Jail is listed, we get a say whether it actually stays on there or not and it's a collective effort so it'll grow and grow hopefully. I'm going to keep count of how many there are along the way but it's not a voting list
  22. Lol I don't completely hate the list since Muppet Movie is on it lol but I definitely think it'll be a cool experiment when all is said and done!
  23. Well, I have found myself in disagreement with the 1001 movies list so I decided that maybe as a collective effort, we can all come up with a better one. Rules 1. Minimum of 5 entries per post and maximum of 25 entries per post 2. All films must be listed in order by year 3. If two entries are released in the same year, put them in alphabetical order 4. All films are elligible 5. Put the year next to each film 6. Number them so it's easy to count! 7. Think of films you believe someone should see in their lifetime 8. 1500 maximum nominees - elmination will narrow it down to 1000 9. The first 100 films listed are guaranteed a spot on the list 10. If a film is universally panned, the folks in this forum reserve the right to vote to remove it from consideration This is a way of trying to bridge the gap between commercial films and arthouse films - I want to try and get a good balance of both. Let's have fun with this! So without further adieu, I'll enter 20 films to start us off 1. The General (1927) 2. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1938) 3. The Wizard of Oz (1939) 4. It's a Wonderful Life (1946) 5. On the Waterfront (1954) 6. Psycho (1960) 7. Dr. Strangelove (1964) 8. The Graduate (1967) 9. The Godfather (1972) 10. Star Wars (1977) 11. Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) 12. E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial (1982) 13. Back to the Future (1985) 14. My Neighbor Totoro (1988) 15. Edward Scissorhands (1990) 16. Forrest Gump (1994) 17.Pulp Fiction (1994) 18. The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) 19. WALL-E (2008) 20. The Avengers (2012) 20 down, 980 to go!
