  1. Haven't seen many movies this year, but, the ones I have:1. The Avengers: A2. 21 Jump Street: A-3. Cabin in the Woods: A-4. The Grey: A-5. Hunger Games: B+6. John Carter: B+7. Chronicle: B+8. Goon: B9. The Dark Knight Rises: B-10. Snow White and the Huntsman: B-11. Underworld: Awakening: C
  2. I loved this movie. So. Much. SO MUCH!! And I walked away desperately wishing I could get a DC/Marvel movie crossover with Selina traversing Europe and doing espionage while Black Widow trails after her. Thought both ladies kicked much ass in their roles.(I loved ScarJo a lot in Avengers. Hathaway ran away with TDKR though.)
  3. I don't know. I think I may not have had as big a problem with Bruce not being Batman for 7-8 years if they had shown he did something. Anything. At all. He didn't have to put the mask back on and fight crime. Instead, he stagnates and pines for Rachel and becomes a hermit and allows his corporation to decay... Just, man up, for crying out loud! The fact that he doesn't even like being Bruce or Batman: ballsy? Maybe. Appealing for someone who already had major issues with this version of the character? Nope!
  4. While Bale's acting was fine, the characterization of Bruce from the get go in the movie really bugged me and pervaded the rest of the experience for me. I *hated* that he hung up his cowl for almost a decade. Hated. And the reasons for it just annoyed me even further.
  5. I... did not enjoy her performance personally. Couldn't get "Joey Potter plays dress up!" out of my head. Probably unfair, I admit.I did like her in Pieces of April. Oh Lord... LOL!By far, I'm Team Gyllenhaal. But I'm a huge Maggie fan.
  6. TDK is still my top Nolan batverse movie. I didn't fully appreciate BB when it was out in the theaters, but that was because 1) again, I'm not a big Bale fan and I'm still very much a fan of Keaton's Bruce/Batman and 2) the Katie Holmes factor. However, I loved the supporting cast of BB so much, and I found the story compelling, right up until the finale. Loved the shoutout to the Joker though. And I do own both on blu-ray.I think my biggest problem with the trilogy is that when the focus is just on Bruce and his MANPAIN!!, I lose interest really fast. I really enjoy Bale most as Bruce when he's fighting and when he's interacting with the supporting cast. Otherwise, the character falls flat for me; however I can see why other's like his work here. So I'd rank them:TDK: ABB: B+As of right now, after only one viewing: TDKR: B-/C+
  7. Here's more on Talia's comic alternate:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talia_al_GhulTalia's just going to have to be a place where we agree to disagree. I'll accept Nolan's movie version of her at some point I'm sure, but for now, as the movie is pretty fresh for me, the character's still gets a big "No".
  8. Talia is a pretty complex character in the comics, so here, I did feel that her role was reduced to something very, very one-dimensional. Revenge against Bruce was one thing. Nuking an entire city was another. That's pretty nutbar.ETA: I should also say that, while I didn't know for sure that she was Talia during the first act, I had my suspicions... which were pretty much confirmed when Neeson showed up in the pit. And then I figured she would be revealed to be connected with Bane. Still though, I wish they could've gotten a different actress than Cotillard. I think a lot of my complaints with her storyline is that I simply didn't find her engaging, whether she was acting with Bale or not.
  9. I guess at the end of it, it's kind of ambiguous. I thought, "Okay, protector/brother type" at first, but then it seemed a little more charged than that. She wanted to nuke Gotham and torture Bruce. She was massively screwed up anyway.ETA: Thanks, Impact! I'm new here, didn't want to annoy people right off the bat. But, there was a lot about TDKR that I wanted to get off my chest.
  10. Also, I don't know what really constitutes as "nitpicky" rather than legit criticism of a film. I think most of my criticisms of TDKR are pretty legit. Suspension of logic I can handle, especially in action movies and CBMs, but the supporting framework/storytelling needs to be present for me to ignore it, and unfortunately, there was much of TDKR's storytelling that I really didn't like.
  11. I'm wondering if it did start out brother/sisterly... but sort of developed into something more. I took it that it was pretty intimate by the end, the way she was stroking/repairing his mask and calling him "my love".Either way, sibling-like or something deeper, I wish it had gone in a different direction. The movie will be in my collection regardless because I want the entire trilogy anyway, and those action sequences were astounding. Unfortunately, because yesterday's trip to a movie with some friends was my break away from being a stay at home momma to a beautiful 4 month old boy, I don't forsee myself getting out to a theater again to see this.
  12. I understand what you're saying Telemachos, but for me, he detracted from screentime and development from more important characters. He was in the movie and then died, more or less, off screen. Pretty ineffective and a waste for me. Probably some of what my criticisms are nitpicky, yeah. I think what happened for me was Bruce's initial development, or lack thereof, from the beginning of the movie really threw me off. From there, it was basically a snowball effect, where the stuff that bugged me kept growing and growing. Most of this, though, I just had to get off my chest. I still say that the Bane-Talia connection very much weakened Bane. Just... no.
  13. LMAO!! I don't know what to think about Bane or his voice. Most of the time, I found him menacing, not just because of his actions but his voice creeped me out. Other times, it was near comical. The end reveal with Talia didn't sit well with me though. I liked how Selina bested him. Well done, Cat!
  14. Not only does Weisz have the looks, but the talent. She's crazy good. I thought I'd heard rumors that she was a possibility for this movie, but maybe that was wishful thinking on my part.Come to think of it, getting a Catwoman/Talia fight would've been amazing!
  15. Well, hi. My second post on these forums (but long time lurking on here and on BOM).Yesterday, I saw the movie. Our theater wasn't packed for a matinee show, but then again, I don't think our theater ever sells out. We don't tend to have a lot of traffic to see movies, even on opening weekend. I felt very mixed about it. I really wanted to post here first, since it's fresh in my mind, and I just really want to get it out.My major cons for the movie were: -Bruce's "development", or lack thereof, from the end of TDK. It wasn't what I was anticipating, and, to me, it lessened Bruce's character. Bale did a great job in the movie, but I just couldn't get past the fact that his character stagnates for 7-8 years. That development simply was not my thing. I'm not a big Bale fan or a fan of his version of Bruce Wayne, but I really liked him best in TDK. Here, there was so much missing. He did light up with Hathaway, so there's that. But the first scene, I kept waiting for Bruce to stop with the crippled hermit act... And waiting... and waiting... I ended up being severely disappointed, and it really affected my perspective of the film as a whole.-Lack of Michael Caine. I get why it happened, but this movie was missing Alfred in a big way.-The action was amazing. Some of the best I've ever seen in a CBM. That being said, the expositiony bits felt awkward and forced to me for a good portion of the first two acts.-Matthew Modine's character was superfluous IMO. No real reason for him to be there. And Marion Cotillard was... not good in her role. Zero chemistry with Bale. I would've prefered if Modine hadn't been added and Miranda had been cast with another actress (Rachel Weisz) because her character was much needed to tie the series together.-I really felt that most of the supporting cast was marginalized, even Freeman. Now, Hathaway and JGL I adored with a thousand suns. Hathaway, in particular, was perfection. I still love Pfeiffer's Selina Kyle, but AH really, really knocked it out of the park. But the rest of the supporting cast that I've come to love for the first two movies were just... kind of there? Yeah. Part of me wishes they hadn't included JGL in it just so the core around Bruce that's been with him through Begins could've had more to do. I loved him in this movie, but there seemed to be so much time focused on him that I lost with the development of other characters.-This may be uber nitpicky, but WHY WHY WHY couldn't Nolan get more female extras for the GPD? There were, maybe, two female officers in the whole movie; I saw none during the Gotham seige scenes, and in that ]mass of GPD officers charging Bane's men, they were just absent. -Talia's story was given short shrift. Her identity was telegraphed from that cameo while Bruce was in the Lazarus Pit, but then when the big reveal came, and it turned out Bane was in love with her the whole time.... I don't know. I laughed. Not in a good way. I loved that final act, but that was just really exasperating for me.-There were times I felt the movie was a patchwork of Batman storylines. Someone on Twitter described TDKR as "epically halfassing" the big 90's Bat stories. That's pretty much my feeling. Some great moments sandwiching some not so great ones for me. -Also, this and the Avengers (honestly, my favorite movie of the year so far), both failed the Bechdel Test. I really hope this is corrected in the future by these filmmakers. I'd love for the female characters in these movies to have discussions about something other than the men. And, on a further note, I'd love it if Nolan didn't kill off his female characters when he has more than one female in a movie. It's been a peeve of mine for a while, yet I still adore the way the man films a story so I continue to support him.Pros:-Anne Hathaway and JGL. Hathaway in particular was beyond stunning. Both of them were this film's MVPs.-I absolutely loved the look of the film, though. Magnificently beautiful.-The acting was great, as always in a Nolan film, with the exception of Cotillard.-The action was truly superb. The exploding of the bridges, the destruction of the football stadium, the opening airplane sequence, just to name a few. Really upped the ante from previous Nolan Bat films. I just wish more of everything in between the action and good stuff helped me enjoy the movie more. I'd probably give it a 7 or 7.5/10. ***As a caveat, I will say because I own Begins and TDK, I'll most likely buy this when it comes out on Blu-Ray, as I'm a completist. Maybe over time, the movie will sink in for me and get better and improve. I'll always keep an open mind about it.
