I'm… pretty sure I figured out who the fuck
Matt Damon
plays in IS just from reading the posts in this thread alone that weren't tagged.
I don't care, honestly. But, um, others might?
Anywhooooo…. BIG HERO 6! WHOOT!

I demand a crossover with Marvel featuring Baymax, Rocket and Groot.
Guaranteed a billion dollars domestically. $500 billion dollars in merchandise alone.

Damn.... Maybe someone should've started an INTERSTELLAR VS. LUCY WW club?

Part of the IS promotional strategy also, well.... Kinda alienated me a bit. The trailers were pretty flat for the most part, though the star power was sure as hell strong. And then the long runtime. And then all the emphasis on "MUST SEE THIS IN IMAX FOR THE REAL EXPERIENCE!!!" Well, if it's more difficult to get out to an IMAX theater for some of us, then.... Meh. I'm not going to waste bridge toll fees, ass expensive parking in SF, child care, and then $17 per ticket plus refreshments on your movie.
The promotion for it kind of rubbed me the wrong way, like they came from it at this elitist, cool kids approach that didn't appeal to me at all. And I do like most Nolan films.

How are they like Shrek?
I just rewatched TANGLED last night (and FROZEN a week ago), and both movies seem to be playing with fairy tale tropes the same way SHREK did so wonderfully, at least in the first two movies. I haven't seen SHREK 3 or 4, so I can't speak to those, but WDAS appears to have learned a lesson from that franchise, that there are ways to freshen up the fairy tale/"princess" genre that pokes fun at the conventions while standing as a homage to them.
And then there's WIR, which was a bit of a play on BEAUTY AND THE BEAST mixed with MONSTERS INC.

If IS gets a 4+ multiplier, I'll eat my own ass.
I... Want a video of that? Sounds interesting

"BAYMAX! LOVE BAYMAX!" - my son. All. Morning. Long.
Starting to regret taking him to this. LOLOLOL!!!

LOL to the trolls who said Big Hero 6 is not appealing to girls
Nice split there

Saw the movie. BAYMAX FTW!!!
Probably the best time I had in the theatres this year. It was just so fun.
That mighty fist bump lol
BAHLALALALA!

It takes away the kid audience and most parents will see the animated movie with there kids.
Yeah. I don't foresee myself getting to the theater to watch IS, since the next few weekends will be occupied for me.
At this point, I'm only really seeing family fare at the movies.
-
It's pretty much proved impossible for a live action movie to come out on top of a well-reviewed animated movie. Probably the only exception is DRAGONS 2, but I forget if it came out the same weekend as 22JS. This weekend furthers that argument.

I don't mind sentimental, as long as you don't overdo it, but I wasn't particularly a fan of the new agey stuff.
INTERSTELLAR is new agey??? :/

$217 to $230 million for BH6 is perfectly acceptable for me.
I actually wish there were more weekends like this with multiple high-profile releases. Maybe IS can reach $50 million after all.

I hope BH6 has a leggy run though. I would love for it to crack $200million.

The BH6 Saturday jump is actually smaller than expected, I really thought a 60% jump or so would put it at 26M Saturday and then a 16M Sunday would have meant a 58M weekend. Now it looks like a weekend of 55M. Interstellar has an outside chance at 50M.
BH6 not showing that big a growth over WiR, and Interstellar falling from Inception.
Well, that's a big downer…

I do feel that the LEGO MOVIE (and I watch that shit a lot) is still extremely clever and hilarious. But I found the overall emotional journey of BIG HERO 6 far more satisfying to me. That's really it, in a nutshell.
The little foibles of BH6 (the name thing, the predictable "twist" at the end) never sullied the arc of Hiro and Baymax and the development of the team. LEGO MOVIE also has it's quirks -- WildStyle's rather devolves as the story moves forward. But it's still a wonderfully clever movie.

Hiro-Tadashi arc also made me teary eyed, it was very well done and not forced at all
Anyway, Tadashi will likely soon be a tumblr fangirls fave, I'm feeling it
He already is.
I admit to swooning a bit when he was onscreen. Daniel Henney did a great job voicing him.

I don't get why some people seem to think there wasn't any emotional arc in this movie... I really think Hiro's growth and feelings were handled very well! He actually felt like a believable kid to me and not just a 'kid character'...if you know what I mean? The last character I really felt that way about was Lilo. (I don't count some characters because their appearances as children were limited)
Right. The entire movie was Hiro's emotional arc. Everything he did, built, created… everything centered on
the death of his brother and needing friends to help him. I was legitimately shocked that they showed Hiro wanting to kill Callaghan, but it all stemmed from mourning Tadaschi *sniff*
.
Hiro and Lilo are straight up peas in a pod.

I did a sketch of Baymax!
Wow! You've got some talent there

I have, like, no expectations about TMNT.
Watch me absolutely adore the shit out of that movie.

I don't know if it's a guy thing, but I liked this so much better than Frozen - which I liked a lot.
Amazing movie. My favorite of the Lasseter/Catmull-WDAS era by far.
J'ADORE FROZEN! Like, we watch it a lot at Casa WTF. The soundtrack helped jumpstart my son's vocalizing; singing "Let It Go" was his gateway to speaking full sentences.
But I connected way more emotionally to this movie. To the point where I ugly cried in ways I didn't when watching FROZEN. Or even my favorite WRECK-IT RALPH.

Is it just me or have the latest WDAS movies outShreked the Shrek movies?
I really only liked the first two Shreks.

Ain't no thing like him, 'cept him.
And honestly, Aunt Cass reminds me more of Helen Parr than anyone else...
Yeah. I was pleasantly surprised at the snappy dialogue with the aunt. Maya Rudolph was perfectly cast. I wanted more of her.
I really do hope this makes enough to have a sequel. Because I (and my son) require more Baymax. #HailScottAdsit

Between Groot and Baymax, Disney has pulled a two-fer of lovable gentle giants that EARNED their future marketability.
Yep. That's exactly what I said to my husband.
And then you have Rocket, who's the actual best.

Wknd Estimates: Nolan = 50M | BH6 = 56M+(pg 72) (who cares, our forum lives!)

It really wasn't just you, I think a bunch of others mentioned it.
I could be wrong. I won't go into too much more detail about who I think they played. It was kind of funny to me though
