  1. Guardians of the Galaxy should become only the 5th movie to reach 100m$ in Blu Ray sales in the coming months.

I still can't believe the pace that Frozen is going.  Chances that it reaches 400M$ in combined revenues in 2015..will it reach it before Avatar?

I can't wait to see the boost the MCU movies will get when AoU gets released.  I'm mainly interested in Avengers, IM 1 & 2 and GotG  at this point though.

Anyone thinks Minions as a shot at joining DM 1& 2 in the 200M$ combined revenue club?

Will we see another Hunger Games reach 200M$ in combined revenue?  Will MJ1 even reach 100M$ combined revenue in 2015?

Will all Hobbit movies reach 100M$ in combined revenues in 2015? or will they they have to crawl there in the coming years?

What will be the first movie to reach 200M$ in Blu Ray revenues?  Avatar?  Frozen?  AoU?  Star Wars VII?  Any other contender?

Knowing animation movies do very well on home video, what's gonna be the next animated movie to reach 200M$ combined (with Frozen being the last)?  Minions?  Big Hero 6? Inside Out?  Peanuts movie? DM3?

  2. Was there a combi-box? If yes, they might have split the revenues up too. Or some special offer for still available discs...

I don't know.  Keep in mind that The Numbers are only estimating the units and $ revenues.  The Home Video business keep their numbers hidden for various reasons but the best guess is that they want to be able to do some creative accounting in order to minimize the royalties they have to pay to actors, writers, composers, producers...etc...

  3. Tangled was actually quite the home video beast in 2011 ( well as far as 2011 standards go). Pretty sure it outsold both How to Train Your Dragon and Despicable Me, at least initially.

Tangled was indeed the best DVD seller of 2011, but if you look at the charts of  The-Numbers,  you'll see it received an update between July 2013 and April 2014 going from 104M$ to 134M$.  2 reasons can explain that :

    - Original sales from 2011 were underestimated

    - Frozen gave Tangled a boost during its theatrical release and its sales were once again underestimated during weekly reports

Oddly Blu Ray sales have not received a boost, strongly suggesting that original DVD sales were underestimated.

  4. James Cameron doesn't do what James Cameron does for James Cameron. James Cameron does what James Cameron does because James Cameron is James Cameron.

    :sp2:

His name is James, James Cameron

    The bravest pioneer

No budget too steep, no sea too deep

    Who's that?

    It's him, James Cameron

James, James Cameron explorer of the sea

With a dying thirst to be the first

Could it be? Yeah that's him!

    James Cameron

    - Frozen                             - 169M$  (still going very strong)

    - The Hunger Games         - 146M$ (should receive a boost in 2015 with MJ2 and with MJ1 HV release)

    - Tangled                           - 142M$ (seems to have received a boost from all the Frozen love)

    - How to train your dragon - 135M$

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pirates of the Carribean : At world's end is the last DVD to have reached 300M$

The Chronicles of Narnia is the last DVD to have reached 400M$ and currently sits at 429M$

  6. I was expecting Avatar to at least appear in this list.  I mean that movie completely redefined the movie business model.

I know this is a list compiled from less than 50 (?) movie enthousiasts (scratch that...box office enthousiasts) of various life experience, but still...

Maybe this should be renamed to Box Office's top 100 favorite films of all time?

  7. Placeholder - will re-order them at a later time

    The others

    Scream

I know what you did last summer

    Freddy vs Jason

    The grudge

    1408

    The mist

    The thing 2011

    Saw

    Hostel

    The crazies 2010

    The descent

    The cave

will find 2 more movies and I'll re-order them later

  8. I've added bcf26's list to my database.  I've also updated Films' list.

@ Thatmovieguy : I'm guessing Re-Animator goes to the bottom of your list at #18.

I've also added Simionski's list to my database.

So far I have 10 lists, with 6 of them being 10+ films and 4 of them being 6 films or less.  We have 33 different movies in total, no Resident Evil in the top 10, 3 comedies in the top 10 and a pair of original and remake in the top 10.

I'm planning on getting at least 12-13 complete lists before publishing any results depending on how many incomplete list I get.  There is no deadline to this thread as I plan on updating it everytime I will get new lists or older list being updated by users.

    Keep your lists coming guys!
