I'm not sure most sane posters are completely writing off anything but it does look primed to be lowest grossing Fast film DOM since the 4th one. Holiday weekend coming up will help it but it is losing all of the PLFs to Little Mermaid this weekend. I'm not expecting the greatest holds this weekend and especially the weekend that Spider-Verse drops in early June.

That's kind of the point of my post, they're not making these for domestic dollars anymore. The audience is far, far too diverse for that.  Domestic isn't irrelevant at this point but it's also not the priority. The franchise outgrew it and put its focus elsewhere. As long as they can hit 150 stateside, and then triple to quadruple that OS, it's easy money (when the budget is kept in check).

This is solid considering the inflated Monday in Canada.

I think people love and will continue to love to write this franchise off but from the start 20+ years ago it understood audience diversity (in particular the Latinx community) in a way no major studio franchise had and continues to do so. My showing in Nashville was probably 70% non-white, which is amazing.  They absolutely let the budget balloon out of control for this, but in the end its going to turn coin and I think it's done an excellent job of getting its core audience excited for the 'finale'.

  3. Scream really is in a league of its own. It's hitting 6 for 6 and really us horror fans are lucky to see the quality continue like it has.

I know there's an angle to play that Spyglass will be 'justified' in not giving Neve the coin, BUT I think it actually strengthens her position because they're going to want the base to keep growing and having her back in maybe two more films is the way to do it.

Seeing it tomorrow because the crowds in Nashville have gotten so out of hand opening week for horror that it's legit hard to watch the film.  I love a good crowd but it is the wild wild west out there Friday-Sunday.

    Fuck yes Scream.

  4. I think HBO max release next week will kill that chance (of 400). I know this could be taken as spin city and make NO mistake, im aware SoD had a disappointing run…but…it’s in some way impressive that this was coming off of a universally disliked sequel, scored mild reviews itself, was ENTRENCHED in drama, and STILL got to near 400 WW. While we’re probably done with this franchise it really is a testament to the brand.

  5. KIRBY. man, one thing you have to love about this franchise (other than it still being quality five films in) is that it does a lot of the right kind of fan service. please god let the script be good there’s so much potential here.

  6. FB3 looks to top out around 385 WW.

Think if domestic could have been around 120-125, they would have done a fourth and final.  Can’t see it with those numbers though. Particularly when it’s going to be the first sub 100 of the potter franchise.

Curious to see if it’s future is ever addressed or if it just fades.

WoM for Secrets seems mostly positive among the diehards.

this is my anecdotal evidence also. most feel it’s a big step up.

i thought this was very interesting but work with a girl 5 years younger than me (im 33) who is a BIG potter fan. we talk potter a lot.  when i asked her yesterday her opinion of FB3 she said ‘oh that’s already out?’ i think it captured the real non-eventness of this series plus apathy even amongst fans (she said she really liked FB1). but then she said ‘i didn’t know new movies were coming out again from COVID’ which also really goes to show some peoples viewing habits, awareness, etc really may have changed permanently.
