  1. think it’s a pretty big fallacy to compare them this way. the color purple had multiple factors working against it, and the spielberg property wasn’t one of them. you have what many see as a black targeted film, in a busy season, that also happens to be a musical. it simply had an audience cap which is reflected in the glowing reviews, great cinema score and audience scores, and bad legs. mean girls suffers from something similar. a young female white targeted film with pretty good reviews that is also a musical. wonka has four quadrant appeal, fits right into the ‘holiday vibe’ corridor in which it’s released, and is a musical. but musicals aren’t a monolith. the cast of wonkas net is just so so much wider.
  2. really a shame for TCP. the crowd i saw it with on opening day ate. it. up. and i reallly thought this would catch fire but it isnt. going to need to really level out to reach 110-120.
  3. more front loaded than i would have hoped but also think WOM is going to kick in fast. les miserables seems like the best comparison here. they had almost identical opening days on christmas that also fell on a weekday. take the true opening day of 15.89 and this fell 55%. Les fell 32% from OD so yeah TCP will really need to have some great legs to have a shot at 150.
  4. the color purple is about to be a WOM storm we haven’t seen maybe all year. i went in knowing it would good but fantasia is fucking unreal in this. haven’t seen a crowd this engaged in a very long time at the theaters. if OD really is 16, i think this has a shot at around 200+ domestic.
  5. BOSS has really had some great legs. I finally saw - 1 Sunday night and holy hell what a film.
  6. so stoked for waitress. was shot incredibly well and added a new dimension to an already emotional ride.
  7. curious to see the waitress numbers. we went at 7 thinking no one would be there and it was sold out so we had to go to the 730.
  8. https://deadline.com/2023/11/renaissance-a-film-by-beyonce-box-office-preview-1235641798/ Looks like 20 stateside and internationally would be on the higher end.
  9. a '90' from Uproxxx and THR and an '80' from Variety on Metacritic good good. yeah 20 seems to be the number here for a good turnout, 30 being exceptional. going to play terribly in small cities. ready to throw down.
  10. based on presales i agree which is why i said it would be a huge win.
  11. as a fucking huge beyonce stan who is so thankful were getting this i think anything over 30 is a huge win. what taylor (also a huge fan to be clear) did and is doing is so far and apart diffferent from where beyonce is focused and if anything renaissance ostracized many of her mainstream fans for the sake of a vision. taylor knows what her fans want and gives it to them in spades, while continuing to accelerate the growth of that fan base. beyonce is doing work solely for herself. in nashville our imax shows are well sold (all around 80% the first few days) but the general shows are EMPTY. expecting this to do at least 50% of its business on Thursday/Friday and fall hard. 30/60 is what im hoping for. now let me go get all my silver shit out.
  12. LOL at anyone saying 50 is the ceiling you simply don’t understand Taylor’s power right now. It’s unmatched.
  13. the site crashed. i was in the queue and its down. upping my prediction to 75 for the weekend.
  14. https://variety.com/2023/music/news/taylor-swift-concert-film-amc-theaters-eras-tour-october-1235709150/ Truly believe this thing can do 50 million over the weekend. Taylor has made going to the Eras tour a cultural event and this will be an inexpensive way for her fans to relive the magic. Going to be insane.
  15. 24 million per empire, sweet jesus.

  17. if that barbie number holds it is more shocking than the OW. my god.
  18. what a weekend. I was at boxofficemojo since i was 13 and it truly felt like christmas morning. seeing noctis, baumer, all the og's. this was something special.
