Yeah that game of thrones only sold a few million copies to fans can’t be a success Or those marvel comics who gives a fuck about Iron Man only sold a few million copies over 30 years to nerds ( same with Thor and Captain America) Or those hunger games sold a few million copies to bunch of kids who gives a fuck can’t be a success.

I mean that’s not true it’s one of the best selling games of all time and the best reviewed with everyone saying its an amazing story. But beyond that it’s all on marketing I see no reason why it can’t do well

For any franchise if the first movie in a trilogy grossed twice as much as the third we always say something happened with the second but this one is immune according the defenders. Let’s face facts Disney has to be pissed such a disappointment

Disney had its expectations subverted

Iron man 3 was a sequel to the TA more than Iron man 2. And Thor 3 brought in the hulk and was more a follow up to Ultron so it’s not a 1 to 1

No people loved the inspired genius of Rian Johnson and when they saw J.J. and this movie we’re different they were so disappointed they didn’t come how can there be any other reason

If they can reshoot the entire third act of rogue one 5 months before release they can do something

Honestly so true. Killing Luke off was such a huge mistake especially post the Carrie Fisher situation

You’re right on that point but I’d also argue that the narrative that it was bad didn’t form until a few months after kinda like TFA is now looked on worse then when it came out It is performing I guess on a similar level as the prequels in terms of gross but I would argue again that a sequel as whole has more potential than a prequel ever will. An example would be see how a Harry Potter sequel will do compared to TFB. But Disney no any company that sees its profits cut in half on its flag ship property in just four years will be furious. They will start fresh I agree but with a brand new team no Kennedy and certainly no Rian Johnson. and same to you my friend. It was a good talk, and I agree much more useful. I’m glad you liked these movies by the way just not for me.

In a sense it’s about expectations I would say. And I don’t think we are in disagreement yes this movie did not have a hook and the fault of that is TLJ. But no the Prequels as a whole were not as finally successful as the OT or these movies because these movies had the OT actors. I would argue just on principle a prequel will never do quite as well as a sequel. But they had the hype to open and break records at least while this one clearly doesn’t. So while the ROTS was clearly not a juggernaut the fanbase was still hyped enough to create record OW interest and we just don’t see that here. Also the at least it made money arguement is a terrible metric that’s DCU fanboy but it BVS made money sure it did it also did terribly.

Again BS TPM and ROTS both would have broken the OW record if they did a three day both won their domestic year in a walk, both broke the OD record. Star Wars doesn’t have to drop to the point it loses half its audience in two movies. That’s what I don’t get, for every other franchise if the difference between the first and third movies is half as big we rightly say toxic wom and a second entry that killed interest in the franchise. But because TLJ was some critical darling now we have all these other excuses when everyone knows damn well that if the opposite had happened the defenders would have bragging and attacking all those who hated on TLJ

I’ll take it. I’m not swearing off Star Wars I love Star Wars the OT the PT the Clone Wars Rogue One. I read the expanded universe books as a kid. TLJ only killed my interest in this trilogy and once it’s over and changes have been made ill happily go back to cheering it on. It’s like in soccer once a manager has lost the squad you don’t double down you fire him and move forward.

It’s not even a poll. 5 theaters across five cities on opening day pass out this survey the response to which is voluntary. And for some reason we accept it as a valid poll. So not only response bias but the polling audience is also biased unless we accept those all urban people on OD as reflective of the whole county. That’s beyond trash a statistics professor would lose his fucking mind if a student based on project on a survey that weak. It’s basically a twitter poll

And infinity war was not? And competition is the worst fucking excuse every movie had competition Avatar had competition, so did Infinity War and TDK. For the real big movies it does not matter.

It’s previews were 5 million lower than TLJ despite the fact that previews typically grow especially for a movie marketed as a finale. Also everyone and their mother blamed BVS for JL opening but suddenly that line of reasoning doesn’t work here for reasons. Everyone has always said a sequel pays the price for the last movie and that is being seen here. And whatever sure this movie will make a profit but that’s not how business operates expectation and trend are everything and seriously diminishing returns with this one looking to be under RO will not be accepted by Disney and people will be fired, is that a measure of success? And no CS is just not a good metric by any statistical standard it’s just not a poll it’s the paper version of an online poll. It also fails to track to interest and legs at all just expectation look the WOWS getting at C then having amazing legs as a case in point. and you read as the opposite a fan of the TLJ who I’m sure has said for two years that “ the finale of Star Wars always increases” and now is looking for any narrative you can find to defend that movie. Which is fine, but at least here it’s been accepted that for a franchise on OW the amount depends on hype and this movie’s hype has been down the whole time as shown by the presales that trailed behind TLJ for months despite the fact that presales expand exponentially every year

The good old days when the fans were more or less united. I remember when the first leaks for that movie came out the week of release and people just didn’t believe/ hated them so much that they ran the guy who posted them off the internet.
