  4. Okay. But what you are posting here seems to be implying all the people saying negative stuff in the past couple days were all suddenly excited and then lost interest. However, titanic, excel, and LegendaryBen, all who have said negative things, never posted in this thread before. I was the only one who posted previously, and all I said was that I thought the title was cute, not anything else in regards to the movie and its possible quality. Do you believe they all were excited for this movie back in 2019 but now suddenly lost all interest? I'm sure you can @ them and they can respond to that, but that seems like a bit of a stretch here. In fact, titanic and Ben didn't even say their thoughts on the movie. Just on the film's financial performance and how things do not look good for the movie. I think we're allowed to say how we feel about a movie's box office since...you know...this is a box office forum? Suddenly we can't predict negative things about a movie? As for your last paragraph, allow me to argue against this: Yes, people will lose interest in something they were looking forward to if a movie has bad reviews. But that's true in many other ways. People can lose interest in something they were looking forward to if they don't like the trailers or marketing. Do you find that idea to be silly? Do you think it's ridiculous that material designed to be judged and make people interested in checking a movie out is being used to make people use a consumer decision? And at least for me, and I know some will disagree, I typically agree with the critical consensus on a movie. So if a lot of reviewers and critics I follow tell me a movie I'm looking forward to or am on the fence about is bad, I will listen to them, because I will likely have a bad time. And contrary to what certain users on BOT may say, you don't just become a quality, engaging film critic from nothing. I don't have the free time I used to when I was younger. And with more entertainment options available, often at a cheaper price, I see little reason to pay to see something that people I follow and trust say is not worth my time. And while I'm sure you don't agree or take part in this, most of the people here who complain when people look at movie reviews or use them to judge whether to see a movie or not are usually fanboys throwing a hissy fit that their children's movie that is destined to make millions and made by people richer than they will ever be gets taken down a few pegs. That stuff really triggers a fight or flight response that just causes me irritation. Again, you probably didn't mean that, but I always wince when I see this kind of stuff. Anyways, this movie looks dumb, I thought the previous movie looked dumb, and I thought this sequel would likely be dumb back when it was announced in 2019. Sorry if not being excited for this stupid Ryan Reynolds comedy means I'm a pathetic sheep who bows down to the elitist critics struggling to pay the bills.
  5. I’m sorry, but skimming through the thread only like two people seemed excited for it. The rest are just neutral posts, whether it be reporting cast announcements and box office potential. No offense, but it just seems like you wanted to start something that wasn’t actually there in the first place

But hey, maybe it'll explode week of release.

  10. I did see it again. I watched it two years ago and I still liked it just as much as I did the first time. Maybe it turns out my opinion will change when I watch it again, but I feel confident in my own interests and tastes that I will still enjoy the movie. And sure, I won't speak for everybody. But the idea that everybody else in the world is like me, where they enjoyed the movie on its first watch, and then suddenly did not like it on a second watch...well, I'm sure that was some people's reactions, but I doubt it was enough people to negatively impact this film.
  11. Serious question here: how was the GA not impressed with Crazy Rich Asians when the film legged itself out to nearly 5 times its opening? Seems pretty weird people kept coming back to this film if people were largely unimpressed with it. No offense, but I feel like you're using your own feelings on these movies and projecting them to represent everybody else.

Not sure why today was so bad, but I hope this isn't a fluke.
  15. Genuine bummer. I was talking about Toy Story 3 and his performance in there with a friend just a couple weeks ago too.
  16. Bro I already have a whole ass Sonic trilogy in my head. When that first Sonic poster dropped, I was this close to just going to film school, solely so I could give Sonic the Bumblebee treatment. I would get 97% on Rotten Tomatoes and shit. The people would have loved it.
  17. Obviously Paramount's in way more dire straits than Warner, but it is commendable how WB didn't fast track Detective Pikachu 2. Sony or whatever would have probably put another movie out for 2022 only for it to flop, but Warner knew people were "one and done" with that series and just let it lay down peacefully. Good on them.
  18. Honestly I think the big issue affecting all these movies is just the yearn to go outside. People have their days off on Saturday, and after being cooped inside for months, they'd rather do outdoors stuff rather than be in a dark theater for 2 hours. Saturday bumps this weekend are pretty bad all across the board. I'm as big a Sonic fan as you can get, and I'm super excited to see Tails and Knuckles kick some ass. But like 75% of the hype for the last movie was the redesign controversy, which won't be a thing for the next one. They are trying to lean a bit on the nostalgia angle with adding in more classic Sonic characters, but I don't think that's really enough, since nostalgia really only works for the first movie.
  19. This is also basically a long-winded way of saying Sonic 2’s gonna flop probably
  20. Yeah Peter Rabbit is just following in the footsteps of most of these CG hybrid kids movies. This, Smurfs, Garfield, etc. all have the issue where the first movie was big, and families liked it okay, but the movie’s not interesting or good enough to make people crave a continuation. Something like The Squeakquel is an anomaly and I’m still not sure why that of all things bucked the trend. Maybe it was the Single Ladies cover I dunno.
  21. If it makes you feel better, I’m still on the “theatrical is dead” and “GvK/Memorial Day is a fluke” camp. I’m no wishy-washy hack that changes my mind every weekend. Besides, Mickey’s Law and audiences rejection of midbudget fare meant theatrical died spiritually ages ago
  22. Okay. Even then, that's only a fraction of what he writes about. He discusses box office in a broader context, talks about movie anniversaries and what their success represents, as well as reports on trailers and film news. And yeah, I haven't had any major problems or felt he did poorly on those fronts. Maybe I'm missing something here, but I do think the whole "he's a hack" and visceral hatred towards him is really unfair because he is an interesting guy who has fun viewpoints.
