  1. I actually did know about the huge hype for King Kong at the time under these metrics, and I get why under the context of "Peter Jackson fresh off the biggest movie trilogy ever directing an iconic remake", but I had no clue about people thinking it would beat Titanic. Must have been real heartbreaking for some.
  2. Moderation Instead of fighting about Star Wars for absolutely no reason whatsoever, could you guys just...not do that? Last I checked, the universe won't explode into a million pieces because people decided not to fight about it. So why do it?
  3. Zaslav's the only studio president who is pushing for longer windows. He mentioned pushing back this stuff in an interview IIRC and he's already hurting HBO Max from the inside by pulling a bunch of shows and movies with zero warning which...yeah that's pretty stupid, but I guess it shows his comittment?
  4. I like how this is what you wanted to talk about. This was more pressing to you than the abuse the VFX industry has gone into by the hands of Marvel. There's a world of difference between Internet funnymen and critics taking a potshot at a faceless conglomerate, which is what they do when they mock Marvel's garbage VFX, than the literal director mocking his own movie looking crappy, due to non-union VFX workers overworked and under a super strict deadline. This and Michael Bay's earlier comments for Ambulance are both super unprofessional and disrespectful, because the mistreatment of the VFX industry is a massive open secret they should have known about.
  5. No Pinacolada's on to something. A lot of the time, studios will have their trailers serve as YouTube ads which artificially inflates their viewership. While also far from perfect for a variety of reasons likes on the YouTube trailer is a better indication of a movie's interest, because you have to go out of your way to hit the thumbs up button, showing you're really interested and excited for it. And in that respect, Ticket to Paradise is at 19K likes, while Lost City, at least for the Paramount upload is at about 68K, with a reupload racking up 180K likes. Granted of course Lost City has already been out longer so it's not a perfect 1:1 comparison, but it's still lagging behind recent trailers like Woman King (25K) and Amsterdam (74K) in terms of likes, and is doing slightly better than Easter Sunday (11K), which is looking pretty bomb-y. As an aside, @BestPicturePlutoNash, Bros' most recent trailer only has 5K likes. Again, trailer likes aren't perfect, but I don't think this has really connected at all.
  6. Haven't seen Pirates 3 or Shrek 3 in forever, but Spider-Man 3's lowkey GOATed and is way better in hindsight. The way it tackles Peter and Mary Jane's relationship and the conflicts that come with maintaining a romance is something you just never see, at least when it comes to blockbusters, and it really hits you.
  7. Nope Greater Philadelphia Area Seat Report T-12 and Counting Sellouts Showings Seats Sold Total Seats Perct Sold TOTALS 0 65 348 13040 2.67% Total Seats Sold Today: 15 Comp 0.411x of F9 T-12 (2.92M) 2.175x of Space Jam 2 T-12 (28.49M) 1.074x of Halloween Kills T-12 (5.21M) 1.098x of Scream T-12 (3.84M) Huh...I guess those comps are good after all.
  8. Minions was still coming in two weeks. The biggest thing for Thor to face is either Nope or Bullet Train, which will probably just do 40/110 apiece
  9. Moderation I'm still not sure why people here are in a tizzy on something that is fairly mild compared to posts made countless times in the past, but we're done with this whole Hemsworth sexualizing controversy. If anybody still wants to talk to me about this, just shoot me a PM. Continue the conversation further here, you'll be threadbanned.
  10. This is why I've always more of a sitcom guy. You go in, watch some characters act goofy for 22 minutes, and you're done. No need to stay trapped in a gigantic storyline that may or may not be good in the end, no overlong drama. It's golden, quality material
  11. I have given up even bothering to watch streaming shows these days. Never really watched much TV outside of sitcoms and cartoons granted, but I have not seen a second of the new Stranger Things season, I still don't really know what Squid Game is about, and I really just can't bring myself to stay invested. The only new shows I keep up with are Only Murders in the Building and Abbott Elementary (both are phenomenal shows btw), likely the only upcoming one I will bother with will be that Lord of the Rings show, and I can't remember the last time I even bothered watching something on Netflix that wasn't Seinfeld. Feels nice to be free of this pain tbh, because now I'm actually getting around to watching shows I've never seen before (Nearly done with season 4 of Sopranos, planning to watch Alias when I'm done, hoping to get into some real classics like I Love Lucy) and I've been returning to shows I haven't seen in years. I've gotten back into watching Black-ish for the first time in years and it's amazing how smart and well-written that show is. Would have missed it completely if I cared about Ozark like a normal person.
  12. First world problems obviously, and I'm sure that the youths are probably fine with all this, but I feel it has to suck to be a kid who wants to get into Marvel or Star Wars or DC these days. Things have gotten so insular that if you just want to watch a new Star Wars show or a new Marvel movie, you have to spend hours of your time watching everything that came before it just so you can get an idea on what's going on and get invested in the story. And by the time you're done, you now have to get to the next new piece of content where you have to catch up on everything yet again.Kids now have to spend tons of their free time doing homework just to enjoy a 2 hour movie or 6 episode TV show. Do these execs not realize that homework sucks and kids hate it? At least this will hopefully lead to a rebirth of New Hollywood...hopefully...maybe.
