Moderation @lorddemaxus @HouseOfTheSun I said this once and I'll say it again. It's clear you guys don't see eye-to-eye with one another and you often derail threads with your arguments. It's better for the both of you if you ignore each other, whether it be literally using the Ignore functionalities we have here and let each other be. I'm really tired of the fighting you guys get into between each other and I'm really upset that you are still doing this despite the fact I asked both of you to ignore one another.

Ehh, I think Space Jam's reaching 35M. I can even see a scenario where it's #1 next weekend. There's plenty of ads out there and 90s nostalgia is a mighty force to be reckoned with. And while sales here are overindexing because of Philly's demographics, it seems like it's doing well enough among other areas in terms of sales just by anecdotal posts here that I feel confident saying that. I do think Free Guy, Jungle Cruise and Space Jam will all probably land in the 20-30M range though and Suicide Squad seems like a 40M style opener.

A nice little BOT tidbit inbetween all the debates over Premier Access: we're now past 42 pages, which beats out the Sonic weekend thread back in February 2020 and is now the largest weekend thread we've had since New Year's Weekend 2019 at 58 pages. I don't think we'll get much further momentum to go above that, but it's good to know Papa Feige has brought us back to some of that old former glory.

IIRC Raya charted pretty highly on iTunes and other digital stores when it was available for purchases and rentals. It was also reported as the #1 physical seller when it came out on Blu/DVD in May. Obviously there aren't any raw numbers, and I'm sure sales have gone down since it became available for free in June, but judging from all this, PA arguably does increase the home video revenue as it doesn't impact movies that much...but also impacts box office making the overall revenue and profit about the same IMO.

I agree these movies aren't talked about much anymore but that's the case with...just about every theatrical movie. There's always a big honeymoon period before things come down to earth. And just speaking personally, I've mentioned Soul a few times with family. And I've seen people online talk about the tech found in The Irishman once in a while. Anecdotal evidence yes, but that's better than no evidence at all. I sincerely doubt that first part. Is Hugo all that popular of a rewatch? Or even Gangs of New York? Besides, I'd argue the bigger issue with Irishman's rewatchability is more its length than being a Netflix original. As for the second part, well...I also disagree with that. I remember the excitement of watching Soul on Christmas with my family. I remember getting excited to see Borat 2 when I got off work just to get some fun laughs. I just recently popped up a bag of popcorn to watch Luca specifically because I got to see a fun-looking Pixar film. I even remember the massive disappointment I felt when I saw Coming 2 America with my parents and being bummed over how underwhelming it was. These are memories I will probably have in me. This also happens with movies I'm excited for when I go to the theaters. I'm not gonna act like this happens with every movie I saw on streaming, but this also doesn't happen with every movie I saw in theaters, so... Again, this is anecdotal experience, but this is no different from the anecdotal experience you're talking about right now. I just think people are being a little too harsh here when it comes to "nobody talks about streaming movies".

Soul. Irishman. Marriage Story. Hamilton. Borat Subsequent Moviefilm. The level and longevity they've been into the conversation varies of course, and I'm not denying shows gain more traction (though they are helped by having more seasons) but I don't really totally buy the whole "streaming movies leave no impact" people like to shout all the time. The issue is more that the only things that people discuss online in terms of movies are either IPs or movies from fan-favorite directors and a good majority of movies on streaming...aren't IPs or made by fan-favorite directors. This also applies to theatrical fare, even for hit movies. When was the last time you saw somebody talk about Hustlers? Or Wonder? Or even Hidden Figures?

Thought I was the only one who noticed how weirdly quiet the hype and advertising was for this. In 2016, the first Suicide Squad was EVERYWHERE. The merch was already selling, the soundtrack was everywhere, there were ads up the wazoo, it was constantly on social media...and now with this new movie I haven't seen barely a peep over the past couple months. I know that the first movie hurt the brand's reputation and the pandemic complicates a lot of issues with marketing, but it still seems like the marketing is nonexistent here.

Ehh, I'm thinking like 25M? Even before the pandemic it never really felt like anybody was talking about it much and discussion in general seems really quiet about the movie. By comparison, it felt like way more people were buzzing and talking about Cruella at this point in time, albeit both positively and negatively. Of course, the last Jumanji movie kinda had those vibes going into that films' release IMO, so maybe this is the same thing? Either way, I don't think you're missing a thing by skipping it. I'm still planning to track it because I'm a glutton for numbers.
