Cruella (2021)
Eric the Clown replied to Eric the Clown's topic in Review That Movie! (Spoilers Allowed)
Mixed bag honestly. Love the heist stuff, love the fashion, and especially love Emma Thompson. Every scene she's in is perfection. Everything else is pretty awkward, and like all the other Disney remakes, its pacing is pretty atrocious. It's so weird how these movies are either way too fast or way too slow. But it has enough eye candy for my Emma-loving heart to make it an amusing timewaster that I'll forget about in like nine months. -
Of course not. I just think that when estimates start to drop, things should be a bit more focused on the numbers and be more on topic. And I don't think pages about the MCU and its merits and how directors are treated are what's needed at this very moment. When things cool down and there's less on topic stuff to talk about, then I think there's more leeway. It's as simple as that.

Well the numbers are coming in more and more and people want to focus on that. People don't want to read pages on unrelated discussion. This is the box office weekend thread, so I think this is the main relevant point of discussion. I'm sorry if you don't want to mention or talk about that, but you're free to talk about this stuff in other threads if you please. There's the Classic Conversation thread, there's the Clubs section, etc.

A Quiet Place Part II (2020-2021)
Eric the Clown replied to DeeCee's topic in Review That Movie! (Spoilers Allowed)
Liked this a bit more than I expected to. I was nervous from the initial marketing it would be more talky and take away from the whole hook of the movie, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be and there were a lot of effective silent moments here that I loved from the previous film. The stuff with the girl and Cillian Murphy's great, less so with Blunt and the other kid. However, I really dug the last five minutes or so. So perfectly edited and perfectly ties all the themes of family and legacy and both kids' story arcs really well. Got me hyped for Part III -

Ugghhh I can't stand weekday openings. Makes the weekend so much harder to track and way less fun as a result. It's not even a holiday weekend where it's justifiable. -

Anyways, the only other thing I wanted to mention is how strange In the Heights' release strategy seems to be. Some theaters have the film debuting on Thursday the 10th instead of Friday the 11th. But it isn't like standard previews. These Thursdays go as early as 2PM. I guess this is a last-minute change, but some theaters don't have the movie playing on Thursday. Granted it could just be an update, but this strategy just seems really...stupid to me. Just put it out on Friday like originally planned and I won't get a headache over this. -

I have two Regals near my house. They're my go to theaters I travel to almost every time I go to a theater. I have literally never heard of this 21+ section in my life. I also went to see Quiet Place 2 today, and I had no issue waiting for a showtime. I got there 30 minutes in advance, my show started in 30 minutes, I got out two hours later. Your Regal must do some very weird stuff.

Wait for tonight -
This feels like a stretch. Pre-streaming examples of course, but last I checked shows like Grey's Anatomy and CSI and Simpsons air all over the world and have big international fanbases. And if we are talking streaming, Mandalorian helped boost the Star Wars name internationally, at least in Indonesia. I'm sure stuff like Stranger Things probably also played well in overseas territories too.
