  2. BE QUIET BE CRUEL It’s Memorial Day Weekend here in the US. It’s a very special time indeed for us yanks. A time where we honor and celebrate those who served and died for our country and a time where families come together and appreciate one another. But most important of all, Memorial Day Weekend means barbecue cookouts, incredible deals on mattresses and going to the movies to see the latest hits. We’ve all had incredible memories about this magical weekend at the multiplex. Like the day Star Wars debuted, changing cinema forever. Or perhaps when Alien opened and shocked the world with its chest-bursting horror. Or the time when Temple of Doom opened and shocked the world with its chest-bursting horror. There was also The Last Crusade earning the biggest opening weekend of all time, Lethal Weapon 3 hitting a series high, The Flintstones doing live-action remakes before they were cool, Mission: Impossible taking Tom Cruise to the next level, The Lost World earning the biggest opening weekend of all time, Bruce Almighty making Jim Carrey God, The Day After Tomorrow showing the evils of climate change, X-Men: The Last Stand taking the series to financially amazing and critically disastrous heights, Pirates 3 maintaining a record still held almost 15 years later, Crystal Skull giving us the glorious return of Indy, Fast & Furious 6 continuing the franchise’s meteoric rise, Days of Future Past breathing new life into X-Men, and Aladdin becoming Will Smith’s biggest box office hit, just to name a few. But despite all the win, the shine and glory of Memorial Day weekend has taken a beating. With the summer season arriving earlier and earlier, it became harder and harder for this weekend to stand out. This has unfortunately led to such box office stinkers as Terminator: Salvation, Prince of Persia, Sex and the City 2, Tomorrowland, Poltergeist, Alice Through the Looking Glass, and Solo, to name just a few. And it seemed for a while that Memorial Day lost its luster. It was just another weekend in a box office season full of weekends. However, 2021 is a bit different. For the first time in decades, Memorial Day is serving as the major kick-off to the summer movie season. In a surprise move, Papa Feige shocked everybody and graciously left his first weekend of May slot. And while a Guy Ritchie movie and the latest Saw reboot came in early May, they aren’t really the sexy, exciting tentpoles people want to see. So this year, two very different movies have the distinction of kicking off a new summer movie season after last year took a hiatus. And hopefully both movies will handle the challenge. A Quiet Place Part II, fresh off the breakout success of the first movie, was one of the first movies hit by the COVID lockdowns. But now it’s scheduled to be one of the first major pieces to get people back into the multiplex. The movie promises to be an exciting look at a world where humanity is dying and trying to put things back together...okay, that didn’t sound right. Either way, the popularity and intrigue from the last movie should help excite and bring the masses into one more spooky adventure. At the same time, Cruella became a viral sensation when its first trailer dropped. Folks are eager to see Emma Stone play one of the iconic Disney baddies in what looks to be a fresh interpretation of the 1961 animated classic, detailing the origin story of the iconic villainess with a passion for fashion. Whether it be at the movies or at home on Disney+ via Premier Access Alongside Spiral, Wrath of Man, and other leftovers, you can’t really go wrong with this weekend. In a way, this is perhaps the most important box office weekend of the year. Arguably the most important in modern history. After over a year of lockdowns and futile attempts to reinvigorate movie theaters, this weekend is the beginning of a flood of exciting new releases all throughout this summer. In the Heights, F9, Black Widow, Space Jam, Jungle Cruise, Suicide Squad, Free Guy, Paw Patrol. And while a bad performance won’t necessarily mean doom and gloom for the next few weeks, some strong performances would signal a lot of good things. A sign people are ready to head to the movies. A sign that the theatrical exhibition will remain alive and well. A sign to the general public it’s safe to go back and you can’t miss out. A sign that our box office hobby will live to see another day. This weekend, and this summer in general, is perhaps the most crucial litmus test the film industry has ever had to deal with. And while people like to pretend they know what’s going on, it’ll be a while before we really see what this summer represents in the long term. But as we go into this new beginning, we can at least have a little bit of fun in the moment and discuss all things Queen Blunt, Queen Stone, and Queen Thompson. Of course, you can’t have any fun until we have rules set in place. So... 1. ABSOLUTELY NO SPOILERS. NOT EVEN SPOILERS POSTED UNDER SPOILER TAGS. This rule is applied to all weekend threads, but it's especially true for this weekend. People bought tickets for Quiet Place 2 14 months ago! Cruella is actually not a retread of the animated movie! And sadly, because this pandemic is still a bitch and a half, not everybody will have a chance to see it right away. So please be careful about what you say. This also applies to other movies in theaters and films/shows recently releasing on streaming or VOD. So no Wrath of Man spoilers, no Spiral spoilers, no Army of the Dead spoilers, no Bad Batch spoilers, etc. You are free to give general opinions, but try to avoid going into any further detail. If you do spoil something here, you will be banned. No exceptions. Don't be a dick. 2. KEEP YOUR AGENDA OUT OF HERE. We get it. Movie theaters are dead forever. Everybody predicting the end of theatrical business is an idiot. Streaming is a disease. Woke critics don't understand real movies. Marvel is the greatest film series ever created and all other franchises are below it. Disney/Marvel is destroying cinema and Kevin Feige/Bob Chapek/Kathleen Kennedy is the spawn of Satan. Warner Bros. is destroying cinemas with their HBO Max deal. James Cameron is the true king of the box office. Yadda yadda yadda. There's a time and place for these kinds of statements...actually, there isn't. But at the very least, it doesn't belong here. If you want to start these beefs related to all of these dumb children's movies, go somewhere else. This website would be so much better off with that bullshit gone in the first place. If you do this kind of stuff here, you will be banned. No exceptions. Not gonna name names, but you know who you are. Don't be a dick. 3. CURB YOUR POLITICS. In threads like these, politics often spring up for literally no reason. And straight up, politics just aren’t fun to talk about. So unless it’s truly relevant to the conversation...no. Don't be a dick. 4. THE REPORT AND IGNORE BUTTONS ARE YOUR FRIENDS. See a post that’s breaking the rules? DO NOT RESPOND TO IT. Just hit the Report button, give an explanation to the problem, including the context, then hit "Submit". We the mods will determine the post and see if it's breaking the rules and give out repercussions. See a poster that's consistently being annoying? Then just highlight their name and click "Ignore User" on the pop-up. It'll save lives and hopefully cause less of an uproar or infighting. While trolls are already bad, responding to them only makes it worse. So again...Don't be a dick. 5. IS OFF-TOPIC DISCUSSION OKAY? Well...yes and no. We want people to stick to box office numbers as best as they can. However, there are plenty of dead periods of time with no new numbers. So off-topic discussions are okay to have at these times, so long as they don't impede numbers discussion. So if there's no action, and you want to brag about your barbecue skills, talk about Olivia Rodrigo’s debut album, or rank your favorite 90s Nickelodeon shows, that's totally fine. Just remember that when the numbers come up to keep those discussions down to a minimum. Keep on doing that, and it becomes a chore for many who just want to know the numbers. Don't. Be. A. Dick. And lastly... 6. DON'T BE A DICK. Sometimes things get hostile among users. Whatever the reason may be, if you're not following any of these rules or are straight up not being nice, you're going to get the banhammer smashed onto you. Concern trolling? Banned. Revealing that Cruella De Vil kills Dumbledore? Banned. Just posting something unpleasant or mean? Banned. And if you're unsure if you can handle being nice for one weekend, then, simply put, get out of here. You probably know what I'm gonna say next. TL;DR. No spoilers, no fanboy wars. Keep it nice, keep it neutral, don't attack others, and you'll be fine. If you don't do this stuff, you'll risk a threadban, a suspension, or even a permanent ban, so tread lightly. Outside of that, just have fun! And two last things, First off, this thread will likely lean into being more domestic-focused. If you want to know about how A Quiet Place Part II and/or Cruella is doing in other countries, look at the International section of the forums right here. Second, WE’RE HAVING A SALE $5 OFF THE FIRST MONTH OF GOLD ACCOUNT! Since the box office has been dead, we’ve seen a decline in donations, the thing that keeps these forums alive. And while we understand finances are tight for many here, we do encourage people to donate and become premium members if they can. Every dollar helps keep the lights on and will make the forum bigger and better than ever once the industry is fully (and hopefully) back in swing. We will update this section when the sale goes live shortly. And now... WITHOUT FURTHER ADO LET’S DO THIS SHIT

  6. I saw that earlier, and if you read the Wikipedia source, it reads a bit like a joke to me because it's MZS talking about all the licensed songs in the movie. And unless it comes from a trade (rogerebert.com isn't one), even you have to admit that sounds ridiculous, especially looking at the movie. Use your head mah boi.
  7. Who's this movie for? For me. I have mad crushes on both of the Emmas here, so seeing them in gorgeous dresses and incredible hairstyles? I'm already drooling just thinking about it. I'm of the firm belief that if your movie doesn't have hot people in it, then scrap the whole thing.
  8. That is very true, and I'm not entirely sure why. I guess it was because Broccoli/Wilson and Stallone demanded it? I'm sure somebody like @Cap has the explanation
  9. "Watch out Fury. I eat pieces of shit like you for breakfast!" "You eat pieces of shit for breakfast?" "...no."
  10. Technically the company Turner Entertainment, a subsidiary of WB, has complete and total ownership of MGM titles pre-1986 and their copyright. So the only way Warner could lose those movies is if they sold off Turner to Amazon some other company, which they will never do because then they would lose a lot of other stuff, like the pre-1950 WB catalogue, several Looney Tunes shorts and Hanna-Barbera. A Warner without Scooby-Doo would only lead to anarchy and chaos.
  11. Mike Hopkins, the senior VP of Amazon Studios and Prime Video also mentioned Raging Bull as a part of catalog content. I think it's fair to say he has a better understanding of the finer details of this deal as a part of his job, so...
  12. Dude Rocketman hit #2 on the 2019 Summer list. Take a chill pill

Grain of salt as per usual, but it’s always fun to look at these 1. Black Widow 2. A Quiet Place Part II 3. F9 4. The Suicide Squad 5. Shang-Chi 6. Cruella 7. Conjuring 3 8. The Hitman’s Bodyguard’s Wife 9. Space Jam 2 10. Hotel Transylvania 4
  14. Moderation No Fanboy Wars. There’s no reason to compare which buyout is worse, and you’re just gonna start an insipid fight with zero rewards. Cut it out.
  15. I'm sorry, but I don't have the time to do this. Work has been super hard this past week, and I'm expected to be at work an hour early today. I'm only getting 4.5 hours of sleep tonight. I have to look over my data once again and check my sites again just to make sure I get Thursday alone. You're getting enough data for Thursday only by other people. Please stop asking me, because it's just not possible for me at this point in time.

This has happened a couple times since I restarted reporting. Raya even went through it the last day of reporting. I don't know if it's a glitch or a confusion with private showings or something, but it's always a frustrating thing whenever this stuff happens. Either way, even when you ignore the sellout, there was still only 117 tickets sold today. Pretty bad today if you ask me, but there's still two more days of ticket selling to come, so who knows?
