The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo
Eric the Clown replied to grim22's topic in Numbers and Data
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Greater Philadelphia Seat Report T-25 and Counting Sellouts Showings Seats Sold Total Seats Perct Sold TOTALS 1 165 9,100 30,741 29.60% Total Seats Sold Today: 144 Comp 4.784x of Once Upon’s final count (27.75M) 2.627x of It: Chapter Two (27.58M) 1.853x of Joker (24.65M) 13.056x of Maleficent (30.02M) 10.448x of Terminator (24.55M) 2.707x of Frozen II (23.01M) Adjusted Comp 0.777x of Lion King (17.86M) 3.685x of Hobbs & Shaw (21.38M) This was a great day. This is the highest # of tickets sold since the first week of presales, and is a nice way to end the week. Obviously the fandom retrospective clip helped, so I do expect a decline tomorrow, but it's still strong results either way. -
@The Panda nice job bro

Weekend Prediction thread 10/11-10/13 Play the Derby
Eric the Clown replied to Impact's topic in Box Office Derby
@mahnamahna Any reason why TROS would go from #1 to #11 once MLK rolls around? -
I talked about this before, but I feel like after the initial trailer, Beautiful Day's marketing campaign just stopped dead in its tracks. I'm not even talking about a second trailer, I'm also talking about ads and promos, because I didn't see much of them in the ramp up to release (although maybe I'm not looking in the right place). For comparison, I feel like Ford v Ferrari ads were popping up quite a bit and Knives Out ads especially are everywhere.

What boxoffice runs are unbelievable in retrospect?
Eric the Clown replied to lilmac's topic in Classic Box Office Runs
The decade's almost over, and I feel like out of all the runs in the past couple years, American Sniper is probably the #1 for me. There's just nothing else like it. -

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Greater Philadelphia Area Seat Report T-27 and Counting Sellouts Showings Seats Sold Total Seats Perct Sold TOTALS 1 165 8,895 30,741 28.94% Total Seats Sold Today: 46 Comp 4.677x of Once Upon’s final count (27.12M) 2.568x of It: Chapter Two (26.96M) 1.812x of Joker (24.09M) 12.762x of Maleficent (29.35M) 10.212x of Terminator (24M) 2.646x of Frozen II (22.49M) Adjusted Comp 0.756x of Lion King (17.39M) 3.588x of Hobbs & Shaw (20.81M) I dunno, your mileage may vary, but I feel like this is the first mediocre day for the movie in a long while, especially since this had a new Mando episode to help boost potential numbers. But it's still a good while away, and sometimes movies like these have their off day. We'll see if the following weeks are any better. -
I'm so sorry to hear this. My deepest condolences

There's a lot more to this movie than just the opening. By opening it the week before Thanksgiving, schools are out after Sunday, meaning there's going to be good holds in the coming days, and three weeks all to itself before Jumanji. More promo dedicated to TROS helps Disney too. If they opened it on Wednesday, with Thanksgiving being super late, not only do they get a 50% drop on weekend two, but also likely another sizable drop with another major family film, and then another one once Star Wars hits the scene. And sure, now Jumanji is tracking to hit ~45M, but when Disney decided to move it up a week a year ago, when the last film did over 400M...yeah, it kind of makes sense why Disney would do this. Sure, your opening might not be as huge, but you're compensating with better legs with the Thanksgiving holiday.

https://www.boxofficepro.com/long-range-tracking-dolittle-and-bad-boys-for-life-hope-to-anchor-a-strong-mlk-weekend-in-january/ I thought I was in the clear in tracking movies until Birds of Prey, but I guess I'm resigned to Dolittle at the moment. Le sigh Also lol at the Jumanji drop
