  4. Studios did use to own theaters back in the old days. Paramount especially used this to their advantage by owning multiple theaters, utilizing block booking, and holding exclusivity on what theaters own. Basically imagine if Disney owned AMC Theaters, then AMC would either play nothing but Disney and Fox movies, or movies from other studios would get the short end of the stick in terms of showtimes and exhibition. But in the late 40s, the US government banned the process due to it violating antitrust laws. Having said all that, the Trump administration did mention they were interested in removing these laws, considering them "outdated", though I don't think that went anywhere. Maybe it will, maybe it won't. I don't know how Amazon works since despite having their own production studio, that's not their #1 business.

  6. Progressives: "The police are killing Black people because of their skin. They have military-style power and abuse that power against minorities. We're tired of this and want a reform. The current system is awful, and the good ones who do nothing are no better in letting these actions continue" Lordmandeep: "LOL you progressives are total hypocrites. Why you gotta be so mean? Did you know Hillary Clinton and The Last Jedi are divisive? My entire personality is being an ass and complaining about how liberals ruin everything!" Give me a fucking break.

  8. The officers who stay complicit and don't call out their fellow cops and their brutality are all a part of the system. They allow this to happen. ACAB
  9. A fascinating, if depressing thread that also highlights Liesl Tommy and her work as a director for the DCA stage show. Tommy seems like an incredible woman.
  10. Nobody was talking about the boycott, just the box office potential. Regardless, that’s enough off topic for today
  11. I understand the argument about anti-Chinese sentiment, but I feel like people overrate that. The people who won't see Mulan because its a Chinese story weren't gonna see it under normal circumstances to begin with. Do you seriously think normal people will think "Gee I was really excited to see Mulan, but I'm suddenly a racist now so I won't watch it?" This isn't me saying I'm pro-China or pro-CCP, nor am I saying there isn't negative feelings on the government, but I don't think that's such a big issue on the movie's potential box office.
  12. If Tenet gets pushed to August, I think Mulan should take that October 2 slot, since it'll basically have the month all to itself, although I am aware the issue of a second wave in the fall will probably make studios piss-scared of opening any major tentpoles there.
