So apparently Gunn didn't know 'Birds of Prey' was even a thing while making this movie lol

So HBO was fine making WW84 somewhat public via Nielsen but not for MK? Where's the logic in that

I'm pretty sure their biggest movie is still WW84, which is also still the best opening ever for a movie on Nielsen.
SambaTV have a really poor data and counts just specific devices, i wouldn't take that very seriously
Seriously. The people that treat SambaTV as gospel are nauseating

How long until Warner puts out a press release saying TSS was the biggest thing since Endgame on HBO Max?

If Venom 2 manages to makes money, that would possibly confirm that even the 2018 movie wasn’t as toxic and hated as the 2016 Suicide Squad. Then again, maybe that would just mean that Sony did a good job of fooling people into thinking it’s part of the MCU.
Or it confirms that TSS is tanking because of the movie itself and not because of the completely unsubstantiated notion that the first SS was universally hated
Venom and 2016 SS have similar RT scores and if you include China to the latter, similar box office

An underrated aspect that hurt this movie is the awful messaging. Starting with the title
I'm glad DL is pointing this out

There's a fuss because other rated R CBMs got A's and the first Suicide Squad also got a B+

i still cant wrap my head around why would you if you were a studio give a budget of 185 mill for a movie thats 1)r rated,2)has unknow characters,3) the first one was terrible , and on top of that you have it on hbo max........ its beyond stupid even in pre covid times a 185 mill budget for this ? why ?
Gunn probably wouldn't accept anything other than this being his biggest budgeted film yet

A lot of the appeal for Harley back in 2016 was her sex appeal and her relationship with Joker.
It's not a coincidence that her popularity has sunk since they started moving away from that

Should've used Queen again

This movie is 1 day away from release and it still feels like James Gunn is the only person promoting the movie. It's been his twitter account since the first trailer launched and that's it
Have you watched the Olympics? They've been spamming this movie like crazy
The marketing has ramped up ten fold these past 2 weeks

It’s a testament to how absolutely brand damaging the first movie was that this might not even open to $30 million, despite the critical praise.
Or it's a testament to how boring and uninteresting WB's current approach is. We did see both Shazam and BOP struggle to generate buzz despite good to great reviews

My god. WB really gave this a bigger budget than the first one

A movie called 'Suicide Squad' featuring some of the same characters is currently on Netflix
WB needs to rethink their titles

I just found out about Stillwater just a few hours ago after looking up the RT score for TSS...

The trailers havent been very good. I was sold better on the film by that first look behind the scenes video they did.
Trailers couldn't have been bad. Didn't the first trailer get like 150m views or whatever?

A week ago I thought BOP numbers but now I’m thinking 25-30 OW and 55-65 DOM finish which puts it lower. BOP made 117m internationally pre- COVID, WW84 made 120 during COVID but 25m was China, Black Widow made 160 so far. I’d estimate 90-100 overseas.
So 145-165 WW total
This is gonna be a giant L for WB if Kinnaman is right about the budget

Weren’t those buses the same ones used for Matt Reeves’ Batman?
Yup. Same design, color and everything

They did something similar with BoP. They waited until 2/3 days before release to lift the embargo. A lof of people thought WB was trying to hide it

Imo Yes, it has the same name basically with some carry over cast members.
If the movie is good it will set itself apart but it’s hard to blame people who see the title and don’t want to give this a chance right away.
Then it begs the question: why make another one with some of the same cast if the "stench" of the first one is that strong?
-
Is a 5 year old movie really to blame though? Aquaman did just fine coming off JL only a year later

Really?
I wouldn’t say the trailer reactions were alarming but more the lack of buzz around them.
I think the marketing has failed to establish that this is basically a reboot. I genuinely think there is people out there who are like ‘where is Will Smith and Joker?’ lol
They have though. Every statement I've seen from people involved are about how it's not connected to the first movie, how it's not a sequel etc
-
Yea. I'm very much looking forward to this but this trailer was boring

Not surprised. They were spamming ads during the olympics
