Excellent Sunday holds! Thanks Canada! Good job.
Can Canada's 37m inhabitants really have such a big impact? US has almost 300m more after all.

I look forward to finding out Disney's approach to this.
But will probably not see the movie, never cared for either the dogs or Cruella.

Well, the trailer looked interesting enough, some good scenes (hopefully) with Jolie in full Maleficent mode.
Kinda nervous about the storyline though. Maleficent was the first movie I watched in cinema after a long dry-spell and the first 3D-movie I ever saw so it left an impression at the time.
This one will almost certainly fail to measure up, but will give it a try of course.

What’s that?
How to Train Your Dragon 2.
So should have been T instead of C. Too much darn Pokemons on my mind right now!
And also 2 instead of 1. Too many sequels to keep track of!

I honestly expected way more for DP mostly due to the social media buzz. 80M DOM seemed to be the floor for it's OW. What happened?
Same as when HTCYD1 was released, people thought it would have more appeal than it ended up having. (But then the breakdowns here were more epic)

We're talking about a franchise bigger than any before it and one which can transend through dream to reality wall and save the very planet we are living on.
Hm, I like the MCU too, but that is a bit too much. It probably won't save the planet.

Why do people hate brie?
Shes seems super nice
They think she's too outspoken on subjects they don't care for.
And she doesn't show her boobs either.

King of the Monsters should do well but pretty much giant monster fights are the same spectacle as overpowered human being fights.
So people mainly want to to see bigger than life movies at the cinema. Makes sense as you might just as well see anything else comfortably in your home, but a good spectacle requires the big screen.

that ultimately advertise a dull retelling
Retell what? This is a sequel so they should be on new territory unless I am missing something.

As far as new material goes, it's a catch 22 situation. On one hand, people are complaining about the lack of new stuff. On the other hand, studios have to put up the cash and enough of it to make the new stuff quality material. Meanwhile, pretty much EVERY new IP has failed so studios just keep going with remakes, reboots, and sequels.
Not really a problem.
When people actually get tired of remakes/reboots/sequels then they will stop supporting them and studios will be forced to make original content instead. Or possibly shut the door and give up.
Will probably not happen anytime soon.

That looks too scary for me. Might have to pass on this one.

Kind of getting GoT vibes here. The books that is, not the TV-series.
But Disney is probably involved enough in what Cameron's doing not to make this accouncement without being confident that it's coming along, albeit slowly.

What about the Gambit movie?

Very considerate of Disney to give me another year to get Avatar 1 watched.

This thread told me IT: Chapter 3 was a real thing
Wouldn't make sense, the book had two parts (even if interleaved).

Also, they're selling this like a finale like I was expecting. Can't see sub-$300m dom tbh.
What else could they sell it as?

If it´s not Avatar 2 or 3, i don´t see a movie beating TFA in the next 5 years. Only inflation Will do...
Seems inflation will not help according to BOM.

Both Black Panther and IW has lower adjusted than actual gross for some reason.

And need to take into account how many cinemas there actually were at that time! Wow those screens must’ve been absolutely rammed
Weren't there more small cinemas around back in the good old days? The little backwater that I live in (not in US) had its own cinema when I was a kid, but it's long been out of business now and the whole place been razed into the ground.

Gotta remember it was a totally different time for how you consumed entertainment. No TVs or laptops. The movies were cheap forms of entertainment. The 1940s was the high of admissions for the movie industry.
And also far smaller population. US 1940 had 132M as opposed to 327M now.

Would enough people show up for an Avatar re-release? It'd probably make a buck or two in China, but everywhere else? I'm not sure if there's any interest. I'd go since I haven't seen Avatar in 3D yet.
I would go at least. Haven't actually seen Avatar yet, so should get it done before Avatar 2 hits, and watching it in cinemas would be preferable to TV.

Why not do worldwide admission count 😛
1. Avatar did bulk of its business in higher ticket price country compared to EG. Even Infinity War might be close competitor.
2. Avatar had ofcourse better exchange rate and is basically $2.35B at today's rate.
But maybe there are more people going to the cinemas globally these days?
Flop Weekend Thread: Top 5 Weekend Actuals - TSLOP2 $46.65M | Dark Phoenix $32.83M | Aladdin $24.68M | Godzilla KOTM $15.45M | Rocketman $13.82M

The 3D-mania was still strong at that time apparently.
