This Freddy/Jason TV spot for The Gallows just got me hyped.
Looks like it's a slasher.
I just think the found footage approach looks really awful for it. Really wish it wasn't done like that. Also the noose isn't a very exciting weapon.

I knew nothing about it until I saw the trailer before San Andreas.
Doesn't look like anything special at all.
Unless the reviews come out and shock us all, I'd expect a typical low-impact inconsequential run, highly unlikely it gets anywhere near 50M.
I started an under $20 million club for it.

I wonder if Jurassic World is going to eat into Insidious?
-
Is Green Inferno getting a wide release?

Man, 1981 was a f**king boss year for slashers:
The Burning
Dark Night of the Scarecrow
Eyes of a Stranger
Friday the 13th Part 2
Halloween II
Just Before Dawn
My Bloody Valentine
The Prowler
Them good ol days...
There is a slasher movie coming out called The Final Girls. It's supposed to be a throwback to movies like Friday The 13th, The Burning, The Prowler, My Bloody Valentine. Oh and it's PG13.

That Insidious WW number cant be right.
Why?
-
That's a big drop from Insidious 2 and 3.
-
Jurassic World has the pedigree and it is also besides Minions, the only film left this summer that has the potential to be a massive draw. The trailers are very effective and they were smart to cast Pratt as he is obviously coming off a huge film. I think a Godzilla opening is the minimum it opens to and hopefully it goes much higher.
What about Terminator?

But all the highest grossing supernatural horror movies of the last 10 years have been R rated.
-
Can somebody explain why Insidious 3 is not rated R?
It's not scary, frightening or intence enough.
-
You just mentioned it, should you be banned? For the last fucking time.
Could we please perma-ban anyone who mentions Cinemascore?
Sorry if I caused offence. It was intended.

Horror movies make most of their money from teenagers , especially girls, so if they were to make them R-rated they are writing off a big chunk of their audience. It can work for some slasher movies but the days of R-rated supernatural/ghost movies are over.
Yea, but this is part of the reason horror is in a bit of a rut. Texas Chainsaw and Friday and Halloween are all rated R and all made piles of money. I have no problem with atmosphere over gore, but at the same time, the horror film of the 70/80's needs to make a comeback imo. Someone needs to make a flat out slasher film, like they did with It Follows., imo
Not to mention the The Conjuring, Annabelle and some of the Paranormal Activity movies are the highest grossing of the recent supernatural movies and they are all rated R.

Any preview numbers for Insidious and Spy?
-
Well, I'm sure they are the authority on opinion for this movie.
Normally you'd see some people excited for something but this has no one. The closest was someone saying the liked the idea behind the movie but the found footage angle put them off.
-
If you look at the IMDB board for this, people are really trashing it. Not seeing any defenders.
-
So much for the argument that audiences are rejecting original movies.

I do think it's funny that Poltergeist made less in 4 days than Evil Dead did in 3. Even though it had 3D price increase, more theatres and a PG 13 rating to appeal to a broader audience and a bigger budget.
Ghost House pictures made both movies but looks like Evil Dead (the R rated one) will be more profitable for them.
-
Oh, look, another PG-13 found footage movie.
$15 million OW
$35 million DOM
Is it PG13?
Also there is a movie coming out over here called The Hallows, I got confused at first and thought it was this.

I dunno, personally I'm kind of sick of meta, let's poke fun of this, slasher horror. Would prefer to get more serious and straight forwards slashers back.

I want to see slashers make a comeback also but I'm worried studios will just go PG13 with them.

My problem with horror recently is EVERYTHING IS GHOSTS! Like the last 7 or 8 mainstream horror movies have been about ghosts in some way or another. Not that I have a problem with ghost movies it's just add a little variaty. Maybe the reason the box office is so underwhelming is because audiences are sick of ghosts.

Tomorrowland easily led the weekend but this is such a disappointment considering it's high budget and especially when you add prints and advertising costs even if it does good ok overseas it will not help losses for Disney.
Do prints even cost anything anymore? I thought everything was digital? Surely that's a lot cheaper.
-
Evil Dead had really intense trailers. And was a better film by the look of things. Had a lot more fanboy hype too.
Yeah but Poltergeist is PG13 which is apparently supposed to make more money than R rated movie. Hence why they keep forcing it upon horror movies.
-
I noticed Poltergeist is trailing Evil Dead (2013) figures. Which is odd considering Poltergeist is rated PG13 and has increased 3D ticket prices. Shouldn't it be doing much better since it's open to a broader audience? Evil Dead even cost half to make than Poltergeist did and it didn't have any known stars in it.

They'll probably just make em PG13.
