  1. Both Amy Adams and Jessica Chastain would be perfect for Adult Bev: Sophia Lillis herself has suggested both of these actresses in various interviews when asked 'who could play an adult you in chapter 2?'
  2. and Adult Bev as Jessica Chastain! Moderation....I know this is such a small small spoiler but at this point, let's just keep everything about part two that isn't known from part one, out of this thread. Thanks
  3. Review Summary: You might have come for the scares.... but you'll be pleasantly surprised at the humour - and you'll remember IT for its heart. Pls let either Amy Adams or Jessica Chastain play adult Bev! This really is a movie about the kids... and also happens to feature a scary child eating clown. It's no wonder all the marketing / press for this film has been about showcasing the 7-kids, showing off their genuine chemistry, and downplaying Pennywise/Bill Skarsgard. - The film knocked the ball out of the park - The marketing department (trailers / poster / promotions etc) knocked the ball out of the park - The casting director knocked the ball out of the city I have very high hopes for Chapter 2, and the adult story, but worry because this is near universally considered to be inferior story material to what we've already seen. News that the kids will still feature (via flashbacks) is promising, however, and I hope we find a happy medium between continuing to showcase the kids via flashbacks... and dealing with lesser material of the adults in present day. And we'll all be wondering for the next 2 years wondering whether there will be any spiders in part 2.... They better hurry up and make Chapter 2 before the kids grow up! Two favourite lines: "Can only virgins see this shit?" "....and now I have to kill this fucking clown!"
  4. Producer / Directors sister talking about why Bill hasnt done promotion for the film thus far. Short verion: See evil monster first --- see super handsome, young, well spoken well mannered man playing evil monster later.
  5. A few more full IT movie reviews popping up on youtube. All are positive and loved it. Did these guys break an embargo, did the public screening attendees have to sign an NDA like the critics screenings?
  6. I'm interested as to why they've kept Bill Skarsgard away from virtually all press so far. Is it because they believe the crown jewel of the film to be the young cast / their chemistry / their loss of innocence and evolution etc - and want to showcase that? Is it because Bill Skarsgard is distractingly good looking - and they dont want the audience to look at this beautiful guy and wonder 'how on earth could he be a compelling / convincing evil killer child eating clown' before seeing the film (and get distracted during the film knowing what the guy underneath the makeup looks like)? Is it because Bill Skarsgard is relatively unknown or better known as Alexanders brother? Is it because they know the whole world is going to be talking about Pennywise and the actors performance soon (like heath ledgers joker to batman - aka WB is *that* confident in his performance), so they dont need to reveal any more than necessary of him or the actor early ? Or is Bill being kept for a last minute media showcase in the days beforerelease, or to showcase immediately after release when the films enormous success becomes apparent (we know its a given at this point) and word of mouth kicks in as people naturally wonder WHO pennywise is, and they can show him off in a 'bet you didnt expect Pennywise to be THIS guy' big reveal? ("IT's been a hug hit with $XXX opening weekend - and now lets MEET THE STAR") All the marketing for IT has been A+ outstanding so far, so i've got no doubt they have a very deliberate and specific reason for their action (or inaction)....
  7. Early full review from someone who saw the movie... (breaking the embargo)? Review is nonspoiler, so if you've watched the trailers then you're safe to watch the video. Video summary: He absolutely loved it , masterpiece, exceeded expectations etc etc.
  8. Having not read the book or seen the miniseries, which would be the most important adult character from the losers club to cast in Part 2? The reason I ask is i've seen lots of big-screen sexy names thrown around, and they surely wont have the budget to get every one of them. So if the director had to choose 1-2 to zero in on for casting due to importance to the story, or go all out in budget to get, which would they be? (Ive seen lots of Jessica Chastain / Amy Adams suggestions for Bev - but would she actually be one of the main characters in any part 2? Or would it be a waste because most of the adult story deals with XX instead etc).
  9. A new BEHIND THE SCENES video featurette, which also has some HD footage of 'the Georgie scene' starting at 7min 25 sec (still edited - not displayed in full). Its much easier to see in HD details you missed if you only saw the 4 minutes of Annabelle footage online via shaky recording or terrible quality video. (lazy eyes, colour changes, drool etc)
  10. Do you see a clown, a spider or a sewer first? Amazing poster. Love the double-imagery of a sewer VS spider. Love that the eyes are pointing in slightly different directions like the movie/actor. Love the throwback 80's artwork and style and feel. The artist who made the poster is: https://www.instagram.com/oliverbarrett/?hl=en and he spoke a little about it on the Stephen King subreddit linked via pic above, saying this: So apparently Warner Brothers had this commissioned for some event called Gallery1988. Every step of the way the marketing department has knocked it out of the park for this movie Another pic of someone saying IT mural marketing popping up near them:
  11. Why have I only just heard about / discovered / seen the trailer for this today? Its already been out for a while in some places, had a limited release in others and transitioning into wide release now, yet still not out in Australia for another few months. Dont recall seeing any marketing or whatnot to bring my attention to it earlier. Geez whats going on! Because I just saw the trailer and... .... It looks fantastic. Amazing trailer! Inspired and beautiful visuals. I've since read the book synopsis and a bunch of reviews to ascertain that the subject material (and by extension: issues raised, questions faced, life lessons and realities to be learnt) are anything but easy or child friendly.
  12. My bad, I misread the titile of this thread saying 'beware spoilers' as a signal that spoilers would be present in the thread so no need to hide them. Seems like it means beware spoilers in the movie reviews.
  13. For anyone who was wondering, because I sure as hell was, wh Was given at a q&a with the screenwriter.
  14. Spoilers from my second viewing + Notes I made I just got back from my second viewing of Arrival and made some notes during key scenes of things I either missed / misunderstood / was confused by during the first: A good spoiler-filled explanation for denofgeek interpreted the film can be found here: http://www.denofgeek.com/us/movies/arrival/259944/explaining-the-arrival-ending
  15. Non- spoiler part of my post: I just got back from seeing Arrival. For several weeks leading up to its release it was sitting at 100% on Rotten Tomatoes (with over 80 reviews) and has now 'dropped' to 96% with 155 reviews. While we always joke about rotten tomatoes 'getting it right/wrong', seeing such strong critical acclaim definitely gets you curious to see what all the fuss is about. And if you love your sci/fi, the trailers suggest a film about 12 alien ships arriving and the worldwide reactions of the aftermath, and we all all know how other films in this genre traditionally go.. right? (eg Independence Day - there will be lots of explosions, cringe worthy cliches, terrible acting, destruction-porn everywhere, big dramatic set pieces, kick some major alien ass etc) And that is most certainly not what Arrival delivers, it's the complete opposite (so it's not surprisingly being referred to as "Anti-Independence Day" by viewers/reviewers... and it' so wonderfully refreshing to say and experience that for a film in this genre. We need more smart sci fi films. The best way to describe the film, in non-spoiler terms, is a beautiful and poignant slowburning emotive crescendo - which will resonate with you long after leaving the cinema. Since leaving the cinema i've been thinking about it nonstop, trying to make sense of it all - and the only real way to do that is simply to have a repeat viewing tomorrow. The second viewing will be in a completely different light. Its definitely a film to avoid spoilers for, so if you're curious to see it and wondering whether it'll be any good - stop reading - and go see it before you taint the experience of seeing it by finding out too much. -- Click for spoiler discussion: Lots of little clues, both visual and spoken, which really need a second viewing to notice/appreciate. .
  16. [nonspoiler post] Alright I just got back from seeing this film, and it would be a crime to delve straight into spoilers while people are still figuring out whether to see it / whether its worth it etc and trying to test the waters by reading snippets here to gauge opinions before making their mind up. ---- Speaking in nonspoiler terms - i'd describe Arrival as a beautiful and poignant, emotive crescendo which will resonate with you long after you leave the cinema. The LESS you know about it going in, the better. Dont try and tease yourself by reading or seeking out additional spoilers to the trailers. There's a good reason the films at ~95% rotten tomatoes approval with over 100 reviews. You already know how 'standard alien arrival/invasion end of world lots of things blowing up' sci-fi films usually go, but this definitely isnt one of those. Since leaving the cinema i've been thinking about it nonstop, trying to make sense of it all - and the only real way to do that is simply to have a repeat viewing tomorrow. The second viewing will be in a completely different light. To say any more would risk spoiling the beautiful little movie-magic journey Arrival takes us on.
  17. Although i'm an athiest myself, I think the answer to the chicken/egg scenario in the context of the film (refer to post #81) could easily be God. He saved them the first time / showed them the right way (however you want to put it), then we took over / put things in our own hands and saved ourselves, and became the chicken/egg. Heres a question for you guys out there, and again i'm an athiest myself, but does this film leave still room for God (or a God) and faith? My thoughts were that yes, it does, even though its not directly brought into play. (and that discussion reminds me of Contact)
  18. Well said. This was on my mind during the film as well, and I was struggling to work out which came first, because in my puny 3 dimensional constricted mind, something needs to come first. But - once you just sit back and accept that its a chicken/egg scenario - and you simply cant really comprehend and translate things into a neat black and white answer, I was happy to suspend my disbelief and accept things were that way. 'just because'. I love the spinning docking scene, which surprised me, because I didnt really think a docking scene would grip me the way it did. I think a big part was the musical score during that scene, which really was nailed right. There is definitely not just room for a sequel, but room for a sequel with a compelling story and adventure. Whether Nolan wants to do it or whether it was ever intended aside, there is definitely a story that could be told, which wouldnt feel like something pulled out of their ass for the sake of it. Some quick questions, things I didnt pick up or understand until my repeat viewing. Can someone shed light: - Why did the airlock explode when Matt Damon went in? Was the robot responsible for actively not letting him dock, then killing him? Or did he die because he did the docking wrong of his own accord. There was a convo about TARS and trust etc between Cooper and CASE which I didnt pay enough attention to - Who did the grave at the very end belong to, what was on the tombstone? Was it Amelias dead love interest? (aka shes all alone now on his settlement) - How can water world have waves that massive when the ocean is only half a metre deep? (or should we just say suspension of disbelief / accept it)
  19. Would love to see a sequel, however unlikely it may be. But the ending certainly leaves the door open to an adventure which could be told! The final scenes in the tesseract were realised so beautifully. I went into the film knowing they'd go into a black hole and wondered, "How the fuck will they visualise that?". Well, they pulled it off.
