It's a given TA2 will be the #2 movie by Sunday, heck even before that ... Friday is a bank holiday in Mexico so sky is the limit! Does anyone have the OW daily stats for FF7? Did it do about $7M per day? TA2 will need an 4-day OW of over $35M ($8.75M per day, a high threshold) to possibly become the #1 movie by next Thursday. FF7 is going to drop a lot and may get stuck in the $50-52M total. Probably @boxofficemexico are being too optimistic, but you never know...

Massive numbers expected for TA2, @boxofficemexico posted on Twitter that it may have the biggest OW, #2 movie of the year by Saturday and the #1 by Thursday (!) Not sure how reliable this account is, but from what I've read online, pre-sales are humongous.

Probably FF7 will remain at #3 (or maybe #4 soon? ) although could jump to #2 in admissions and pesos. Currency exchange fluctuation can wipe out almost US$1M overnight! Meanwhile, FF7 is up to US$49.4m (weekend < US$3m), Universal's highest movie in Mexico. I think it's now in the Top 5 of all time, isn't it?

From Boxoffice.con: Furious 7 became the third film in history to cross the $1 billion mark overseas this weekend after Avatar ($2.027 billion) and Titanic ($1.528 billion). Combined with an estimated $320.5 million domestic cume, Furious 7 is now the 5th highest grossing film in history with a global tally of $1.322 billion. Chinese moviegoers have helped this latest installment (an 8th was just announced for an April 2017 release) become the highest grossing film in its box office history, racing past Transformers: Age of Extinction’s $319 million this weekend for an estimated total of $323 million. China’s BO total has also outgunned the North American cume, not unheard of for films that flop domestically yet shine in China, but astonishing in the fact that Furious 7 was considered a runaway success in both countries.

It was a dumb thing to say though, involving what could potentially be one of its biggest intl markets. Social media is massive in Mexico, it only takes a Tweet from a popular account to unleash a negative reaction...let's hope that's not the case.

Oh oh. RDJ just said something in an interview that may impact negatively AoU in Mexico, specially if the local press picks on it and blows it out of proportion.

I was referring to Marvel in Mexico. CA2 and Thor 2 OW was just 10% (in average) higher than their first installment, under that pattern TA2 would do 20M max - FF7 OW was a freak anomaly. However, TA2 may have better legs than FF7. Happy to be proven wrong by numbers in the next weeks!

It's going to be a close one, FF7 is box office magnet for Mexico (1/3 of the US admissions have been Hispanic) while the Marvel Universe is starting to show symptons of fatigue. Do we know if TA2 is opening on more screens than FF7?

That'd be a 6 million third week isn't it? Probably among the best ever and bigger than a lot of blockbuster's OW!
