This is quite an erudite summation of many of the opinions of James Cameron's success in the past 20 years actually. Then they end up getting blown out when he makes a 2 billion dollar behemoth that defies all previous data.

I like to imagine that Jim feeds on people doubting him, and by the looks of it, Star Wars fandom alone will add a couple of billion to the WWG.

I'm sure somewhere someone once said the exact same except '2 billion'. Inflation alone makes a $4B movie a certainty.

I really hope so, but the true potential is unlocked if JC can convince Xi Jinping to allow Avatar 2 an unlimited run there - I know he spoke to him at the recent talks in the US, although that was probably on environmental issues not film unfortunately.

Agreed. Merely the fact that Jim did Aliens and T2, arguably two of the greatest sequels of all time should be enough to make serious film fans shudder with excitement at the thought of another sequel from him.

Do we have any information on Jim's dealings with China and their lifting of the 4 week time slot for Avatar 2? That alone would help tremendously, and if anyone can convince them to lift the rules it's Jim.

It wasn't a dig, it was an honest question - I've only seen moderators with that same combo so far. I like to base things on numbers, not feelings.

I think if China really loved it, and they kept it running like the first film did we could see it break the 4B barrier, but Jim may be living god, it seems high even for his standards.
