  1. I wouldn't take any offense to that question, and to my knowledge, no, although I am of a generation that didn't even know that autism existed. So, if I am indeed on the spectrum I have never been tested, and it has never impacted my career or personal life (at least negatively). May I ask a question in return? Do you have ADHD? You seem to lack the ability to respond to any of my original questions and simply jumped to another, now while it has been almost two decades since I last read through the DSM-IV, if my memory serves I think this might point to that diagnosis.
  2. You misunderstanding logical positivism was an insult? I'm not sure I follow. I'm not sure what this is asking, could you clarify? Please point to the part of my post where I made this assertion. Unless you're making a joke about positivism vs the many worlds interpretation. In which case, the MWI only violates positivism if you accept that there is some meaning to the statement that the other worlds "exist", beyond the statement that quantum mechanics is exact. This is not what the MWI is about, it isn't about ontology, it's about the best framework within which to frame quantum mechanics and the map from quantum mechanics to experience. Although I'm going to take a wild guess and say that wasn't your intention, and that you simply misread my original remark. Happy to discuss both though.
  3. Considering he's the kind of guy who throws out Descartes as his go to example of a 'philosopher', I'm not even sure he knows what irony is.
  4. Third best movie of all time hard to argue it doesn't deserve a spot in the top 50 there Jimbo. Although like I said, getting emotionally invested in this is inherently irrational. It's about getting a good view of BOT's community taste.
  5. Could you point me to the part of Ferngully where they travel across interstellar space and transfer their consciousness into the body of an alien species?
  6. Warms the heart that original movies hold the top 2 spots, there is still hope for creativity!
  7. Highly recommend Jim's show currently airing on AMC. Has some great insight into sci-fi and Avatar.
  8. Did JC ever actually hold that record though? And you're right, we can only hope to attain his greatness.
  9. No, I've got it down now. Jimbo = Obi-Wan Me = Qui-Gon Kal = Yoda Jim = The Force I think that's what the sws meme poster was trying to convey.
  10. It was never mine to concede, the measure of success to me isn't how fast you are out of the starting blocks, it's who is first over the finish line.
  11. I just appreciate that they realise that they're the trade federation and we're apparently the Jedi. They do command a vast army of droids that are all the same after all. I guess that makes Jim Yoda... or maybe the force itself... will have to think on this one.
  12. I have a feeling this would get us both blacklisted Jimbo, you saw how mad the powers that be became when I stepped out of line. Yes, I really respect him for it, one of the few times I really admired an actor for their thoughtfulness.
  13. General disdain for the Oscars but also (from his wikipedia page) - [he said] months in advance that he would do so on philosophical grounds if he won. Scott believed that every dramatic performance was unique and could not be compared to others.
  14. Arguing over whether a movie 'deserves' to be higher or lower on this list is nonsense. It's about getting a picture of BOT's taste. Seems to me a lot of people on this board would have sneered at George C. Scott for refusing the Academy Award, when I see it as one of the most noble gestures in movie history.
  15. @Baumer is right, had I used the near random logic that most users seem to have used, my list would, no matter the method or basis of opinion, had Avatar at top spot.
  16. Only fans of weak franchises that can't aim for first place even care about opening weekends.
  17. I often forget different teams did the CGI for different sections, I'd love to see a version where it highlighted who did what shots.
  18. I agree. I don't understand why some people are so mad about my list. I can only surmise that we have a lot of totalitarians around here, there seems to be some people who really do love telling others how and what to think.
  19. I'm glad you understand, and sincerely hope that Panda does not for one second think I was ever trying to mock him or the list. I actually really admire the entire exercise and the work he is evidently putting in to making this whole thing work.
  20. I have zero taste for aesthetics, which ties in to my logical positivism! I won't get into the entire argument now, but I do agree with your point on the paintings. For me I have to agree with McLuhan that "the medium is the message" and so would disagree that I don't care for the medium, although I'm happy to concede I might not care about it in the same way you do. I was never good at making or abiding by rules Jimbo, I'll leave this up to Panda.
