  1. Jurassic Park now has 3 record breaking openings, putting it behinds Batman for the most. Unless large format theaters and premium seating really expands in the next few years (or a massive preview audience followed by a strong Friday), this might be the ceiling. The next record breaker might have just as small a margin of victory. Still, monumental performance. With summer weekdays and the 4th of July holiday, I can see this surpassing $600 mil so long as it doesn't implode in the coming weeks. Who would have thought that JW would outdraw AOU?
  2. If anything, Universal has a history of underestimating their recent big hits. They were under for F7, DM2, F5 and Fifty Shades. They were over for PP2 and F&F6.
  3. Big movies in June/July and their Sunday decreases: The Dark Knight: -8.5% The Dark Knight Rises: -10.5% Man of Steel: -0.1% (!) Dead Man's Chest: -20.4% Deathly Hallows Part 2: -15.8% Assuming the 70 million number holds, the lowest Jurassic World can go is $208 million.
  4. Jurassic World might have sold more tickets in it's opening weekend than The Lost World sold in it's opening week.
  5. The cash drawers for the West Coast should be closing soon. That just leaves Hawaii. Go Hawaii!
  6. Estimates had Fast and Furious opening at $72.5 million on it's opening weekend in 2009, bigger than The Lost World's $72.1 million opener (then Universal's record). The actual opening weekend for Fast and Furious was $70.95 million, coming in just under. http://www.boxofficemojo.com/weekend/chart/?view=studioest&yr=2009&wknd=14&p=.htm The F&F franchise ended up breaking the record anyways with each subsequent installment. Well, until tomorrow.
  7. I still remember when estimates put Fast and Furious over The Lost World for the biggest opener Universal had at the time, only for actuals to knock it under.
  8. I fully expect Universal to smudge some money over from Monday if it was anywhere close to finishing behind Avengers.
  9. Where is the kaboom? There is supposed to be an earth-shattering kaboom!
  10. I haven't gone to bed earlier than 4am in a week. I blame Dr. Pepper.
  11. Samsung sponsored one of the park attractions and it's cell phones were everywhere.
  12. I thought Rth came by and caused the place to implode from hype/disappointment.
  13. Jurassic World's non-preview Friday to Saturday increase in perspective: 10 percent (Spiderman 2002): $70 Million Saturday 12 percent (Avengers 2012): $72 Million Saturday 16 percent (Jurassic Park 1993: $74 Million Saturday To go higher would be the biggest opening Friday to Saturday increase documented for a record breaking OW.
  14. So, Chris Pratt: LEGO MOVIE: $69 million OW GUARDIANS: $94 million OW JURASSIC WORLD: $200+ million OW Has any actor had a 2 year streak even approaching this?
  15. http://www.jurassicworld.org/?id=169 Reveal back in July 2014 of an animatronic raptor head. http://www.idigitaltimes.com/jurassic-world-dinosaurs-now-include-robotic-indominus-rex-may-or-may-not-be-416897 Irrfan Khan mentions acting against a animatronic Indominus that kept acting strange during production, but I can't remember any shots where I would think it'd be used.
  16. I remember panic, punching my fridge, and a six pack of beer. Maybe not in that order. I stopped by in October to see if anyone knew what had happened and if BOM was actually gone. Even after that debacle, BOM still limped on with Ray Subers continuing his detailed summaries. With him leaving to a better position, there isn't really a reason to go there for anything, but the charts. I also kinda missed using forums and the insanity of a fast moving topic. Go Puerto Rico!
  17. I lurked here daily ever since BOM was kill during Memorial Day weekend. Now I'm onboard for good. Where do I burn my sacrifice?
