I didn't realize how impressive Universal's billion dollar summer was until I ran some numbers.
-A studio running a billion dollars during the summer calendar has never happened before.
-The studios that had done it with adjusted ticket prices had massive summers in hot periods (Uni 1982, Sony 1997, Sony 2002, Disney 2003, Fox 2005).
-The summer is halfway over, with another two Universal releases on the slate and the remaining runs of Minions and JW generating at least $250 million more.
I don't see anyone topping what Universal has done this summer.
EDIT: Oh, and if Ant-Man is a big hit, we will go from never having one to having 2 in the same summer. Disney needs only another $250 million.
