  1. Six movies is just too many for a franchise like Fast. Not interested, even if reviews are good. Looking forward to Iron Man 3, Trek II, Pacific Rim, Robopocalypse (as long as Spielberg is still directing), World War Z, Lone Ranger, Man of Steel, and maybe After Earth. Smith is one of my favorite actors but it's hard imagine M. Night turning things around. Every time he comes out with a new film the internet community thinks "maybe this one will be his comeback." And then it ends up worse than the last.

  2. As expected, Nikki numbers all over the place, people jumping to early conclusions.Hunger was never close to the 2nd weekend record. The weekdays would have had to be stronger than that. This is going to be a totally average drop for Hunger this weekend. Now Hunger's performance is indeed amazing nonetheless, and it is a huge success for Lions Gate. However, people need to keep their expectations in check, as well as the praise. While Hunger is indeed a non-sequel, it is far from an original film. It is based on a very popular book franchise, a book franchise that has more fans than even Twilight, as far as I know. So the built-in audience for Hunger was always big to begin with, but the amazing OW that blew everyone away was because it also got a lot of casual moviegoers to watch it on OW as well. Now, we should see quite average drops for Hunger during the rest of its run, due to the fanbased nature of the film, and the overachieving OW. The WOM is good, but the film hasn't caught on with the majority of audiences out there. Outside of some curious moviegoers on OW, most of the casual moviegoing audience just isn't that interested in the film.

152mil opening weekend is more than just the fanbase.
  3. The Hunger Games:Alamo Drafthouse Austin TXSat 8:45 pm SOLD OUTTrailers:Breaking Dawn - laughter at the end when Bella peeka-boos the deerPrometheus (teaser) - silenceSnow White and the Huntsman - whispersThe Avengers - some clappingMovie: A-Best start to a book-adapted franchise I've seen. Lawrence is amazing and a star in the making, Hutcherson is endearing, and the supporting cast (Tucci, Sutherland, Banks, Kravitz, Bentley, and especially Woody Harrelson) are all aces. Liam Hemsworth doesn't make much of an impression but then again he has little to do here. Nearly every scene/note is pitch-perfect. My only complains are the oft-mentioned skaky-cam which is overdone in a few scenes, and the "clothes on fire" effects are pretty fake-looking. I imagine they'll double the budget for the sequel though. Deserves all the money it made. Crowd was into it and there was clapping at the end. Girls next to us were crying during one of the death scenes.

  4. I'm unfamiliar with the Hunger Games source material, so I'll likely skip that. Between now and the Avengers, I will definitely be seeing 21 Jump Street. Might see Wrath of the Titans if it ends up being better than Clash, but will most likely skip out on 3D. Will see American Reunion and Five Year Engagement. And that's it.

That's not a good reason at all.
  5. Chronicle17:2060% fullthe BEST climax in some time, but the rest is average.yes the climax saves the movie, COMPLETELYB+

Climax was good, but the rest of the film (showing the trio learning and goofing around with their powers) was more interesting/original. Character development made the movie what it is.
  6. The fact that they gave the VFX award to Hugo show how bad their taste and bias against big dumb fun movies is. They take that movie as an artform shit way too seriously, and it show's that they're a bunch of egotistical *****. I can't wait for the first REAL award show, that rewards ACTUAL achievement. Until the day.....

You're right, they're biased against blockbusters (Rise of the Apes, Harry Potter, The Dark Knight, Nolan not nominated for Inception, etc)...but they also fail to recognize true "movie as an artform" films (Drive, Shame, Take Shelter, countless others). They're the worst sort of voting body. They like "middlebrow" i.e. Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, War Horse, The Artist, The King's Speech, etc.

  7. By the way, has nobody noticed the obvious green screens in a few non-action shots during the ASM trailer? It's distracting, and makes obvious the fact that they shot quite a bit in L.A. and on soundstages. Seeing the trailer again on the big screen, I noticed for the first time how "been there, done that" the whole thing feels. Besides more night scenes, the whole tone doesn't feel THAT much different from the original trilogy.

  8. Ghost Rider II:9:30 pm75% fullTrailers:ParaNorman - few laughs21 Jump Street - laughs (seriously, people...nobody gives a shit if the old tv show was a drama)Prometheus - silenceThe Amazing Spider-man - some chatter, a few "huh?"Movie: C-Nice visuals, better action than the first (Neveldine/Taylor know how to shoot a car chase), but predictable and cliched in almost every way. Ciaran Hinds and Idris Elba bring much needed gravitas, but they can't save a nearly non-existent plot nor the tired action-movie tropes. Cage is predictably looney, but even his form of crazy is beginning to wear. Entertaining in spurts, but too campy to recommend.

  9. Ghost Rider 21:40 PMOnly about 30 people at most. Then again, keep in mind that this was an XD showing, IE the most expensive showing that is not as crowded as the other ones.Trailers:(No reactions to any of them, except one really funny one)Battleship: The only reaction. "Really???" "Yes! It is coming!"21 Jump Street: Yuck. This was a drama show...Wrath of the Titans: Seen it already, looks better then the 1st.Prometheus: Looks...intresting.Amazing Spider-Man (New trailers): Looks decent.Movie: Better then the first. Visuals were good, the "story" was decent. Yes I say "story" as it really did not have that much. Though I did enjoy it, and the thing about the Ghost Riders past was intresting. Though Cage continues to be one of the worse actors ever. Even if I enjoyed National Treasure 1 and 2, and Sorcerer's Apprentice was good. The music was decent. No actor returned it looked like other then Cage. Surprised this was not rated R for a few creepy scenes. This one was much more of a horror then the first one. Not a great film, but enjoyable to say the least.BBTW, outside the movie I hear a dad go "Okay I want to see Star Wars, but in 2D" Yep, hear that Lucas? They want it in 2D not 3D!!!! And I heard quite a few seniors going to go see Safe House.

You can't say a guy is one of the worst actors ever if he's had good performances before (Moonstruck, Leaving Las Vegas, Raising Arizona, Adaptation, Matchstick Men, Bad Lieutenent, etc). Cage just seems to not give a fuck when he stars in these types of movies, so he turns on "Crazy Nic" and goes over the top with it.

  10. Safe HouseTuesday 8:55PM, Valentine’s DayHouston, TX60% full in a 300 seaterTrailers:Project X: Got a decent reaction. Some whispering afterward.21 Jumpstreet: Lots of laughs throughout the trailer and after. Great reaction from crowd.Prometheus: Silence. No reaction at all.GI Joe: Decent reaction, especially when many realized it was the Rock. Actually heard a couple groans when Bruce Willis was revealed at the end of the trailer. Was extremely surprised by this.Battleship: positive reaction from the crowd. Lots of whispers after.Bourne Legacy: Chatter after the trailer.Movie: Great reaction throughout the film. Solid movie. Give it a B+. Some clapping at the end. Reynolds was really solid in this film. Held his weight sharing the same screen as a juggernaut like Denzel. Denzel delivered which was expected, but I think many will be pleasantly surprised by Reynolds.

I find it amusing that people still have to be surprised by Reynolds. He's been proving his acting mettle for quite a while now, it's just that he tends to choose bad projects.
  11. WIB has nothing to do with exorcims at all, and it is not a suprise at all to see an overhyped Internet fanboy movie disappoint.

I was referring to The Devil Inside. Overhyped? Where? Here? LMAO...I don't base my expectations on what people on forums think. I base it on the trailers. They were great, the reviews are great, and the movie is close to great. It'll still be a success, I guess I just don't see how the aforementioned films held more appeal on OW.I imagine Radcliffe is helping Woman in Black, and apparently it's not too bad.
  12. Chronicle6:00 pm showing80% fullTrailers:The Three Stooges - laughs at the lobster and Snookie scenes (ugh)21 Jump Street - lots of laughsThis Means War - few laughsBattleship - teenagers were excited, otherwise silenceMovie: B+Tops Cloverfield as the best found-footage film to date. The early scenes are highly entertaining and full of humor, which the audience responded well to. Halfway through is where the plot turns more dramatic (and even disturbing in some cases), and the film becomes something of a character study with superpowers. With the exception of a few moments towards the end, the acting is top notch. The effects range from perfect to serviceable, and the climax (not to mention those flying scenes) is breathtaking. An impressive debut from Josh Trank. Audience clapped at the end.

  13. Why?

There are already enough unoriginal ideas in Hollywood. Should we really encourage something as blatantly lacking in ideas as re-releases? Not to mention the original movies were never intended for 3D so the 3D itself will be inherently lackluster. 3D only seems to work when the film was shot with it in mind, and with a filmmaker who knows how to use it (Avatar, Hugo).
