The evening ticket price at one of the Cinemark theaters where I live is $5.50. Not a discount theater. It might be one of only a handful in the country that shows new movies for that price though. That makes no sense. Why would any theater sell a ticket for 5$ unless they are a discount theater already? Who posted it? And what theater was it at? I'm going to call them and ask them what their normal prices are.
-
Ah, I see what you did there...you stated opinion as fact. So so clever you are. Spider-man 2 is still the best IMO, by far.Maybe because it's the best Spider-man movie yet.
-
You must be joking.SH movies are never frontloaded.
-
Not saying it won't make a profit. But 250-275m would be a huge drop in admissions, and it doesn't have a small enough budget for anyone to call it a big success. A successful reboot surpasses the last film's unadjusted gross. The profit will be made from the worldwide gross, not the domestic gross.
-
250-275m isn't a disaster, but when you factor in 3d, IMAX, inflation, and the recently reported 200m+ budget, well....I think we know how this is going to play out. TASM is a boring movie in every way. It has no buzz and there is no excitement about it. The reviews are lukewarm (the positive aren't really positive and the negative aren't really negative). Therefore, this movie will take the most boring route possible. It will not fail spectacularly and it will not break out. This movie will probably end up coming in under my $300M prediction and make $250M. Why $250M? Because that would be the most boring number because then neither side can claim victory. There will be no epic meltdowns. Both sides will end up claiming victory anyway. It'll just be boring.

@ Grey GhostGood for you, kiddo.

The Amazing Spider-man80% fullTrailers:Total Recall - silenceThe Dark Knight Rises (Nokia trailer) - whispers...yes, looks spectacularLawless - silenceThe Watch - laughsFun Size - nothingMovie: B-Good - Good performances, especially from Garfield, Stone, and Leary. Great VFX with the exception of some obvious green screens. The comedic scenes with Peter at or school or Peter discovering his powers are the most enjoyable of the film. The romantic banter between Peter and Gwen is fun and engaging. There are individual scenes that stand out such as
Peter on Gwen's roof, listening to sirens in the distance/Spidey sitting on a spider web in the sewer/Capt. Stacy's unmasking of Peter/Capt. Stacy's death
Bad - The Lizard is a beat for beat copy of the Green Goblin, except now with a
silly plan to turn all of New York into giant lizards.
There are many plot holes regarding Oscorp security, Peter's ability to
magically acquire the web fluid (which by the way is not his creation) from Oscorp.
, and the logic of a
machine that was shut down by Oscorp years ago still in working capacity in Connors' lab.
Peter's courtship of Gwen is rushed while the
search for Ben's killer draaaags, and then it's dropped just like that.
Uncle Ben's death doesn't have the emotional oomph that it should have. The first hour is pretty good and entertaining despite a few flaws and the fact it's covering old ground, but the second hour and change falls apart. Audience response afterward was mixed. A lot of "it was okay."
-
Yes.Was TDKR trailer the Nokia one?
-
Okay, that is pretty silly. To be fair, i didn't see anyone use their phone during the movie. I guess people just don't like being told that before every movie. Also, the ad they used was a pretty silly one, i think it was a Samsung Galaxy S3 ad masquerading as a "Don't use your phones" announcement.
-
Good god I don't like people sometimes. Is it that hard to seperate from your phone for two hours?Hi, First time poster here so please excuse any errors
Movie: Ted
Theater: AMC Century City 15
4:10pm, 90-95% seats filled
Audience reactions:
Just prior to the trailers, there was a "The Dark Knight Rises" tickets on sale spot. The theater which was mocking the "Please turn off your cell phones" announcement was completely silent during the ad.
Trailers:
Anchorman 2 - Lots of laughs
Silver Linings Playbook - Not many seemed interested in the trailer as most people around me kept talking throughout
For a good time call - Laughs at a lot of jokes, especially Seth Rogen at the end of the trailer
The Watch - Chatter throughout
Movie: The movie was fun. The movie makes jokes at such a rapid pace that if you don't like a joke, there is another coming just 10 seconds away. Mark Wahlberg was good, Mila Kunis was ok, the CGI for Ted is very convincing and the voiceover is done well. The main strength of the movie were the sight gags and the guest stars especially
Ryan Reynolds who steals the show without even uttering a word
Overall, enjoyed the movie, the audience was great and helped the overall experience.
8/10

I've been calling a breakout for Ted since the first trailer. Never thought it'd be 50m OW big though. To think a few weeks ago most people around here were largely expecting those two to be the breakouts and ignoring MM and Ted.
-
With a 65m 3-day, Sony better hope Tues/Wed/Thurs are substantial.$65m at best. No chance at 80.
-
It'll do 70-80m for the 3-day.Will TASM do over or under $54m next Fri-Sun.
-
Numbers make sense. On Fri there were two sellouts for MM at my theater and none for Ted. On Sat there were none for MM and three sellouts for Ted.
-
I just hope that if they make an ASM 2, that they give us a real villian, and not another sympathetic father figure who goes a little crazy.
-
Thank goodness. After That's My Boy flopping, we needed another R-rated hit or two.Damn straight! Time to de-neuter Hollywood!
-
Ted will be number one. Both will drop about the same today.Photo-finish ending. We will only know the number 1 place with Monday actuals.

http://www.gq.com/entertainment/movies-and-tv/201102/the-day-the-movies-died-mark-harrisScary stuff if you ask me.Can you find that article? Curious to see what they said.
-
Well, since studios always make excuses when original concepts perform well (there's an article about their response to Inception that's pretty pathetic), that's probably what they'll say. But most people who went to MM probably didn't know anything about Tatum's past.I would hope Channing Tatum's life counts as pre-existing material...
-
It's a huge triumph for original films not based on pre-existing material. To think that Magic Mike and Ted are going to make more (opening weekend and total) than Dark Shadows, Battleship, Prometheus, Wrath of the Titans, and John Carter. Wow!

-
So so glad that Madea didn't steal the weekend like she has in the past. I was wrong about Magic Mike, but I was also oh so right about Ted having huge appeal.
-
Eh, he's had better performances (Boogie Nights is his best). He was good in it, but merely "good" shouldn't warrant a nomination. He should have got an Oscar nod for The Fighter, he was as good as Bale IMO
-
You hate PJ and LOTR. We get it.He also needs to stear clear of overrated one-trick pony directors such as MNS, PJ, Burton.MNS twist schtick overstayed its welcome long time ago. PJ doesn`t worth shit outside of Tolkien (where he`s ridiculously overrated to begin with) and Burton is just terrible at remaking, reimaging, etc.
-
LMAO, you fellas REALLY want Magic Mike to break out...
