I'm referring to his origins more than anything. Especially his desire for vengeance. A major part of his backstory would be pretty difficult to adapt in a PG narrative. I imagine they'll change it to something less visceral that'll still result in the same outcome.

Eh, I think they can handle that in PG, no problem. Hardly would be the first PG film to feature mature themes. Sonic Adventure 2 was pretty kid-friendly and that compassed all of Shadow's backstory.

Finally! It's about time we got some updates on this now that the strikes are over. I'm glad to see the same creative team seemingly return, and considering how well Tails and Knuckles were adapted in I have faith they'll pull off Shadow too, even with the limitations set by that lucrative PG rating. I still don't think they'll quite make that December 2024 date though. I wonder if we'll hear anything at CCXP this weekend.

Why would Shadow need anything more than a PG rating, though? Don't tell me y'all think they should adapt the Shadow the Hedgehog game and have him swear and do guns :gold:

  3. Gran Turismo 2 - IGN

    (official title: Gran Turismo 2)

Based On: Gran Turismo, by Polyphony Digital

Studio: Phoenix Fire Entertainment, PlayStation Studios

    Director: Jamie Babbit

    Genre: Sports

    Release Date: March 20th, Y10

    Theater Count: 3267

    Rating: PG-13

    Format: 2D, 3D

    Budget: $60 million

Runtime: 98 minutes (1 hour and 38 minutes)

    Cast:

    - Unknowns

    - Ken Watanabe as B-spec

    Franchise Box Office:

    - Gran Turismo (08/08/Y9) - $34,108,772 OW / $101,837,642 DOM / $225,083,649 WW

Plot: After winning the Y9 24hr Le Mans Race, Hanna, the protagonist of the first film, decides that she wants to become the best motorsport athlete of her generation. The movie is mostly minimalistic in dialogue, presenting a confident, but increasingly pressured Hanna, as she contends in the Gran Turismo World Championship, with races featuring cars all over the world. Her main rival, Yago Cristas, a cocky and irritable Spaniard, tries to derail Hanna through mind games. Hanna never relents, believing that she is better than Yago in pure driving skills alone, and lets herself go in her own conviction. But 2/3 of the way in, at the climactic point, while distracted with intrusive thoughts regarding her rival, Yago bumps her car, forcing her to spin with two flat tires, and making her lose the second-to-last race. Frustrated, she feels the intensity of the psychological game up until the final third of the film, where she manages to get herself back up, after talking to a character from the previous film - B-spec (Ken Watanabe) - that, ultimately, her goal to become the best can be achieved, if she understands that nothing matters more in sports than striking the balance between the physical, the skillful and psyche, the mind, the mental ability to overcome anything, rather than the thought that pure ability can replace or compensate for anything. She puts herself under grueling training, until the moment of the final race. A tight one until the end, she wins by a fraction. In the end, Hanna is exhausted and takes a break, but B-spec reminds her that mentality is one step closer to glory. She embraces an uncertain, but hopeful future, with a new outlook on herself and her sport.

    Cocaine Bear says "Hello."

(on the other hand, M3GAN did do very well, I must admit, but even there M3GAN didn't break out to FNAF levels)

The way I would put it is at a certain level, Internet Hype is Very Real.  But it can be difficult to determine ahead of time what hype is real and what isn't.  Especially as there are levels of hype and it can be difficult to tell just what tier one is in before the pre-sales start rolling.

Tbf Cocaine Bear still did a Hell of a lot better than a lot of other horror/thrillers that came out this year. It also comfortably out-opened/outperformed the previous Banks directorial work, Charlie's Angels 2019 (though the jury's out on whether or not misogyny played a factor there), despite having a less bankable cast and similarly poor reviews.

But yes, M3GAN is the best example of this in 2023, outside of Barbenheimer. I think a lot of people have "traumas" (of sorts) with internet hype-heavy films since Pokémon: Detective Pikachu (or even as far back as Snakes on a Plane or Pacific Rim), but it's clear that this kind of culture and viral marketing are playing much heavier roles in mainstream cinema nowadays.

LMAO the amount of excuses people are making for kotfm poor box office performance 🤣.

someone already said it so I'm just quoting, "It’s been destined for theatres since it was acquired. It got a wide release, marketing, Cannes, IMAX and no streaming date in sight. I don’t see why this should be treated as anything other than a conventional release.

If there’s an air of streamerness to it it’s the film bros who have been pre-empting it not doing big numbers by saying it was made for streaming and Apple not caring how it does. In a funny way the spin resulted in people internalising that they could indeed just wait for streaming cos there’s nothing lost if it doesn’t do well."

It's not a conventional release because it's a fucking 3.5 hour R-rated movie with very heavy themes. That sounds hardly conventional. And before you even begin to say the word "Oppenheimer", how is the context of Barbenheimer and multiple 35mm and other prestige format exclusivity applicable to Killers? Oppenheimer was the outlier, not the rule.

Highest grossing movie of all time was written by its director lol. Highest grossing movie of this year was written by its director. These writers aren't even as good  as directors who's primary role isn't writing.

Won't even bother replying, since it's like talking to a wall, but other question: do you do anything with your life, other than create alt accounts on a forum to be a far-right troll? Like... is there anything to your life?

Still overpaid. If writing was so fundementally important to success then books would sell more than movies and transformers 2 wouldnt be the biggest ticket seller of the franchise. As of late, writing has been the weak link in the entertainment industry

Writing is important enough to success that movies cannot exist without scripts, a lot of movies *coast* on scripts and some of the highest grossing films of all time are recognized for their writing. The book analogy makes zero sense - totally different mediums.

But what to expect from Jessie other than morony.

  9. While pending for a small update, I can say that 99% of the OP is updated as of October 10th, 2023!

    Keynotes:

    • Jesus Revolution has been bumped off of the Top 100 OW's list;
    • the opening weekend of Monica has been bumped off of the Top 100 PTA's list;
    • it is likely that Talk to Me will finish outside of the Top 100 DOM list, despite constantly being just shy of breaking in - valiant effort by the A24 horror there.

  10. Worldwide numbers are updated.

These are a bit of a mess to update, since a lot of different sources post different numbers, which is attributable to both difference in regions being reported (The Numbers reports Russian numbers i.e.), and also differences in conversion rates. For the time being, even though I was recommended to use The Numbers, I will continue to use Box Office Mojo as there is not a huge disparity and BOM usually displays the higher numbers, though I do use The Numbers in cases where the numbers it presents are known to be closer (i.e. Fast X).
