  1. This gives me SUCH a happy. This movie perfectly achieves what it is...and as a huge fan of the literary genre, I would adore it even without the wildly appropriate casting. But evidently it was hard for GA to process (or just that terrible marketing campaign). It sure would have benefited from some TFA -level spoiler prevention.
  2. Since I'm already a loser for missing the deadline (some distractions here) I can really cut loose with my prediction....124.1 mil. And before you guys rip me for not taking this seriously, I don't think it's an impossible number!
  3. Back to Disney's unwillingness to fudge: aren't there bonuses/percentages that kick in at specific milestones? So it isn't necessarily in their interest to fudge a smidge if it looks like 999,999,999.50?
  4. What the hey...I can handle five bucks, and at least I'll be throwing something towards the forums. Unless of course I somehow win. Eh ehehehehe. I'm in.
  5. Where's the fun in that....and with your gold account, that means you let 495 likes a DAY whither and die? How sad!
  6. Just realized I never actually "said hello." Found these forums via Google when I wanted to track Avengers back in 2012, and have filed back in for lurking visits every now and then since. The byplay between forum regulars has always been a big draw, but primarily it seemed like I would get the most accurate BO numbers earliest here. This Star Wars run has been so incredible and (IMO) unpredictable (plus that whole snowed in thing...can you say CABIN FEVER?!) that I just had to start an actual account. My hope and plan is to be gainfully employed early this year so that I can get a lovely metallic account--running out of likes is getting annoying
  7. Goliath moved right up north from us into your backyard..at least we tired it out a little for you! (Or your snowfall would be higher, I think.)
  8. Doha in September...or any of the Pearls of the Arabian Gulf. My glasses needed windshield wipers.
  9. At least our power and gas has stayed on during all of this. Last time we had winter weather even close to this bad, the city couldn't keep up the gas pressure and houses further from the main line than ours had NO furnace heat! Luckily they still had electricity and most houses have fireplaces...
  10. See weather maps scattered throughout the thread. Sunny here, but that just turns it all to ice. Made it in to work by walking two blocks to where a friend with front wheel drive could pick me up.
  11. B*STARD!!!!! Some theatres would ban him for that...
  12. Do you live in Germany, if you don't mind saying? Only I grew up in Bavaria...and your description sounded familiar!
  13. Well, this is the first time I've been snowed in. The first time in years that I40 (main interstate in NM, bigger than I25) has been shut from ABQ east. And the first time in her administration that our gov has called out the National Guard due to weather. Goliath is racking up "historic" snowfall numbers, and the fatalities speak for themselves. This is not a typical winter storm.
  14. Update from the Weather Girl! Goliath is moving eastward and upward, check weather.gov for the key to this map and most up-to-date info but this map is for WARNINGS and alerts into Monday:
  15. So where are you? Indiana? Southern Illinois? They seem to be avoiding the worst of Goliath (hey, I'm not kidding. This is officially Winter Storm Goliath.)
  16. I'm not sure people realize how large a swath of the US is being drastically affected by the weather, and has been since yesterday evening. Hopefully we'll be clear some point tomorrow, but there's no guarantee (it is STILL snowing!) ...and one of the posters in Texas mentioned family members whose power will be out for a week. BTW, a pretty large chunk of the UK is dealing with record rainfall and flooding, so there go the UK #s for the weekend. But seriously, if later in the week doesn't pick up then sure it's burned off demand...I don't see how this weekend and possibly tomorrow aren't affected by weather.
  17. redfirebird2008--I'll go back and like your post once my ability is refreshed (and I can tell after posting for a day that, if I'm still employed in the new year, I'd better go for a paid membership!) My post should have mentioned that parts of NM and Texas got more than three feet of snow in less than 24 hours, which is mind boggling to me. California has actual tornadoes actually touch down, and parts of Washington rec'd two feet of snow. This is one well-named winter storm. Glad you're in Houston...suggest staying there a bit longer!
  18. Weather update: Winter Storm Goliath has really hit NEW MEXICO/TEXAS/OKLAHOMA over the last 24 hours, but severe weather is stretching up into the Midwest (Minnesota, Illinois, et cetera) http://www.weather.com/news/weather/news/winter-storm-goliath-state-by-state-impacts Albuquerque is largely shut down--public places started closing yesterday, I40 is closed between Albuquerque and just west of Amarillo, Texas, and the Governor has called out the National Guard. We were expecting 3-6 inches of snow, got somewhere around 15-20. The occasional 60 mph wind gusts blowing over semis aren't helping, either. California and Washington are having weather issues, as well. Here's the bare bones of Goliath: Guess I'm saying there is no way this ISN'T having SOME short term affect on box office, so don't think the numbers are going up...at least not for Saturday and Sunday.
  19. You and me both, Narniadis. "Historic blizzard conditions"... and it is still snowing here in New Mexico.
  20. Thanks, #ED! Your advice was spot on. This was the weather map I tried to post hours ago. Here in fly-over land we are getting weather that is definitely keeping people home. I've been snowed in since early afternoon. Just wondering what that might do to the final numbers for today/early estimates tomorrow.
  21. We got all your winter weather in fly-over land. Wonder how that is affecting BO tonight? I'm certainly not driving anywhere...snowing since 1 pm. (Okay, what did I do wrong with the image insert?)
