CGV Cinemas and Cinema XXI have both announced total closure.
I believe this closure will last until end of September. At least.
-
As most of the world embrace the arrival of BLACK WIDOW, Indonesia nears total closure with only around 500 shows per day left.
And that's at 50% capacity.

Late June postponed titles:
- Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard
- Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway
We already a had a bunch of DCPs ready for July:
- The Forever Purge
- The Boss Baby: Family Business
- Black Widow
- Space Jam: A New Legacy
- Escape Room: Tournament of Champions
While local blockbusters were slated to return beginning August.
This new hard restriction period is supposed to last until 20 July, but I seriously doubt it will happen. The target was to lower the number of daily new case to fewer than 10k while now, 3 days in, the number keeps rising and is now 30k.
Exhibitors are looking at 28 July for a return, but let's see

Hard restrictions implemented since 3 July 2021.
Only cinemas outside of Java and Bali now open - that's only about 25% of all screens.
Number of showtimes back to November 2020 level.
I don't know how we'll survive this.

The country is expected to implement harder restrictions starting tomorrow (June 30) which will very possibly include total closure of cinemas 😭
Announcement imminent.

Man, this market has really had a brutal time in terms of number of serious covid waves.
This last re-closure is especially heartbreaking, since we are in a clear recovery path from GVK - MK - AQP2 - C3 - F9.
-
As the result of partial cinema (re)closures, F9 took a brutal 70% dive in its second week.
And things are about to get worse since malls will be instructed to close at 5pm, effectively eliminating weekday shows.
With only daytime weekend shows, I wonder whether the cinemas will opt to stay open.
-
Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard and Peter Rabbit 2 both postponed last week.
We might lose out on Black Widow as well.
Lost about 45% showtimes from pandemic peak (at the opening of F9).
COVID-19 spiraling out of control.

More locations closing.
We have lost 25% showtimes compared to pandemic era peak.

How bad is the situation expected to be in 2-3 weeks?
Hmmm .... looks like it's not about to get any better.
Very bad timing, since local tentpoles are set to return to cinemas in August.

.... which will be broken again by FAST & FURIOUS 9 next week.
That 3-day sneak preview rolled into OW will surely help!
F9 looks to head for a $2.8M+ OW.
However some cinemas need to be reclosed do to a surge in covid cases.

Broke AQP II pandemic record!

Saw the movie last night (screening by UIP Indonesia). Not a follower of the franchise, so I suspect quite a few references flew past me. The action setpieces were so busy, I got lost keeping track of who's doing what, where, against whom.
A clear setup for the two-parter finale where just about everybody will return.
One mid-credits scene.
Indonesia starts sneak previews today untuk Sunday, some 720+ shows per day (not screens). Tickets selling fast as usual.
Regular shows start Wednesday, looking good to set a new pandemic reopening record.
-
Conjuring 3 had a great first and second day, but looks like dropping rather fast.
Might be offset by the sheer number of screen allocation though.

After GVK (1M+ admissions) and MK (830k admissions), now this.
Cinema is back.
Cinemagoers are back.
Next up will be the local tentpoles, and I may or may not be involved in some capacity.
-
A huge sigh of relief in Indonesia as AQP2 set a pandemic OW record of $1.5M (550k+ admissions), while Cruella is conservatively estimated at $340k (125k admissions).

-
AQP II set to have the first million-dollar OW since reopening.
(GVK did $850k)

-
GVK cracked 1M admissions, MK 800K+
Today AQP II is tracking to have the best opening day ever since pandemic reopening.

What's the threshold for good OD performance? Around $50M?

Yes. 35 minutes after your post is at 217.8m Yuan which means $33.8m OD.
Thank you ...
And the projected finish from Maoyan is currently around $338M?

OD is now around $32.4M .... do I read Maoyan correctly?

4 million admissions since December. Nothing like the good old days, but a good sign, especially the last month.
However .... we need more blockbusters ASAP.
NOBODY just started playing and didn't work.

UPDATE
Indonesian cinemas set for second reopening on September 14th.
Full vaccination will be mandated, 50% capacity implemented, F&B prohibited.
We have a whole of Hollywood backlog to clear out, so let's see what comes out first. I know for a fact that Black Widow and Space Jam: A New Legacy DCP's are being prepared for the initial part of reopening.
Later on stuff like Free Guy, The Suicide Squad and Shang-Chi will follow.
Stay tuned.
