The reviews are not perfect but some of you are acting like it got Borderlands reviews. This is locked to open +$100m and I would say $120-140m OW is a realistic prediction. However, we'll se if fans, or more importantly, general audience likes this movie, that will be crucial for reaching $1b. Reading the reviews, I don't know if this movie is what the fans of the first one are looking for but the OW WW will be so big that the worse case might have another Multiverse of Madness/Love and Thunder situation and still reaches $750-900m WW with really mediocre legs...
I've been out of the loop. Is there data to support the OW numbers you're throwing around or is this your personal opinion?

Sounds like it will be highly regarded by a lot of people and then you'll have others posting agendas and painting narratives around it... much like the first one. Get ready, it will be a warzone.

I wanted to see 'Twisters' last night but had other things going on. It looks like a lot of fun. I remember seeing the original in the theaters when I was a little kid. $70M is great. $80M would be crazy and awesome. Let's go

This Summer looks like a missed opportunity for counter programming. We saw last year some lower to mid level budget genre movies making noise and Hollywood seems to have learned nothing from it. In baseball terms, they are still trying to hit home runs instead of stringing a couple base hits together.

These movies weren't meant to have Batman swooping in and saving the day. That's not what they are about. There's plenty Batman vs. Joker movies if you want to watch those.
I read a Thanos origin story before. At no point was I sitting around wondering if The Avengers or somebody was gonna show up. It's not meant for that.

Wow. Marketing masterclass from WB tbh.
Nobody can mess with Zaslav. He had a rough start because he had to take out the trash (literally) but since then he's done nothing but put out hit after hit and the marketing department is the best in the business. See: Barbie.

The Batman didn't even cross 800 mln despite glowing reviews
It would have easily crossed $800M and beyond if they didn't announce and then put it up on HBO Max 45 days after release.

I don't think you get what the term means. To me, tryhard means trying to seem more important than you actually are.
So then, in your subjective opinion that's different than everyone else's, what exactly was "try hard" about the trailer? What are they doing that's supposed to be "important" but is not important...

I mean...I guess it looks fine? Gonna make a bajillion dollars, and I'm happy for Gaga, but it just looks like more of the tryhard silliness from before.
What makes something "try hard"? What's the difference between paying homage and "try hard"? Nobody ever actually explains that. There's several directors who have based their entire filmmaking careers on studying and then paying homage to other directors.
It seems to me like the main difference is whether you are interested in the content or not. If you are, it's a homage. If you aren't, it's "try hard."

I don't know if it'll be a great movie... but that was a great trailer. Phoenix and Gaga look like they'll have amazing chemistry. I'm all in.

Whatever is said about the teaser or the trailer later, it looks at the very least that Phoenix will be once again acting his ass off...

The hyperbole in here is already sickening. This is going to be a fun thread. This poster out of all posters is somehow the "worst" poster of all time. Hilarious. Can't wait until the trailer drop. We'll see some full on meltdowns next week.

Why do movies do so well on Christmas but not Easter?
I would think the weather has something to do with it. It's not bad in most of the country and it's the first real opportunity to do something outside with the family most years.

While some of you debate 'Dune' vs. 'GxK' Zaslav is saying "why not both?". WB is putting out hit after hit.
-
'Joker 2' is going to be every bit as divisive as the first one even though I don't really think the first one was all that divisive, it just had some loud detractors online and in media spaces that tried to spread their weirdly obsessive narratives about what they thought the movie was trying to say.
It will be divisive for different reasons. I hope everyone is ready for the months of endless droning on about it...

Both movies were greenlit before the Zas though.
Doesn't matter, look at the marketing job they did for 'Barbie'. WB Pictures is as healthy as it's been in a few years...

Zaslav's WB is on a winning streak. People hate him but look at the results now.

WB is starting to get it together. If they could now just figure out DC.
What is there to figure out though? The last era is over. Reeves seems to know what he's doing. Not sure about the Joker musical but it's a one off. Gunn is working hard on Superman. That's all that's going on.

This is surprising to me. So many people I talked to felt that 'Godzilla x Kong' looked like it "jumped the shark" so I am pleased that it was only anecdotal evidence of the franchise slowing down. Looks like the franchise is bigger than ever...

I'm glad someone was able to see 'Late Night with the Devil' because my local theaters aren't showing it SMH.

I was hoping for a better Saturday number. Closer to $13M than $12M.
Maybe St. Patrick’s day weekend having an effect? People rather be at parties/bars than the movies?
Still doing well.
The weather has been decent adding to outdoor festivities but the numbers are still very good so it's whatever to me.

The Oppenhour has begun. Here comes the sweep.

Joker: Folie a Deux | October 4, 2024 | Lady Gaga is Harley Quinn in this 200M+ musical sequel

I don't think reactions will hurt this if the reactions are divisive. If some people are critical and others think it's good, people will likely say something along the lines of the critics being "haters" or whatever.
Now, if most people are critical of it? Then it could certainly nosedive. I don't think the musical aspect hurts or helps, it's based on execution. I think Lady Gaga does help a bit.
