When did this forum turn into Reddit? I came here to get away from the constant Disney discussion, but it feels like every third comment in the Weekend threads is something along the lines of "Well, Wish/The Marvels sure is doing terribly."

There's been threads on here where movies simply 'underperformed' to expectations and the thread was 100 pages.  You're surprised at two of the biggest bombs EVER getting a lot of discussion on a box office forum?

  2. If Apple wanted prestige, despite how much money the production would cost,  they got that back in spades.  If 'Killers of the Flower Moon' doesn't do anything for award season then maybe these posts would make sense.

But I would bet KOTFW garnering several Oscar nominations.

At what point can we admit that Apple's gamble on filmmakers might, in fact, lose them money in the long run?

You seem to be hung up on this idea so my question to you is how are you going to prove it?  Apple didn't make these with box office in mind,  they want subscribers for Apple+

My argument was more meant in general, i wasnt meaning to say that Hollywood should copy Japans budget model 1:1 or anythung like that. But i dont think anyone can argue against that fact that Hollywoods' recent blockbuster budgets have gotten so insanely large that they practically doom their movies to automatically fail. If a movie needs to gross 600M WW to merely break even, thats a big problem.

And Godzilla Minus One shows that you dont need a 250M budget to deliver a great and epic movie.

The Creator looked really good for what the budget was.  It was around $80M I think.  It looked better than a lot of blockbusters with budgets that are three times that.

Here's the problem:  Nobody went to see it.

I mean, I know Scorsese and Foster are saying Superhero films, but if Video Game franchises took their place, they'd be complaining about those instead. This isn't actually about Superhero films. This is about films that don't challenge audiences making most of the money.

Since when are video game adaptations rinse and repeat?   'The Last of Us' is completely different than 'Super Mario Bros.'

  6. I think the biggest lesson Disney needs to learn from this year is make better movies.  We can talk in circles about politics,  these movies have not been good.  It's not just one side of the political aisle skipping these.  Their RT scores are mid or awful,  the audience scores are mid or awful,  the WOM is generally poor.   Make better movies and people will come.

  7. People keep saying "video games are the next wave!"  Yeah I mean it's possible,  but Hollywood would have to be willing to go all in to make these work.  Here's some games that are potential hit movies.

    - Final Fantasy VII Live Action

    - Red Dead Redemption

    - Zelda

    - Elder Scrolls Skyrim

    - Metal Gear Solid

    - Fallout

  8. By the way,  I'll wait for the official numbers but it looks to me like Hunger Games is doing quite well this month.  I don't think you can compare it to the previous movies. It's a prequel without Katiness/Jennifer Lawrence to a franchise that has been dormant for some time and it's not like the reviews were glowing either...  and yet it's performing pretty well for itself.

Anyone saying Hunger Games isn't doing well is being overly pessimistic.

And this is the thing  with the CBM bubble bursting and so many people being happy and wanting that but then being depressed with the current BO landscape. Well you got your wish what did you think was going to happen with all those lost dollars.

Maybe those CBMs should be good instead of terrible wastes of time?

  10. I'm so tired of the "box office is dead"  discussions,  Happy Thanksgiving everyone by the way.  Here's my problem with it.

If 'The Marvels' or 'Wish' were great movies with 85%+ RT from critics and 90% from audiences and an 'A' CS and all that and were still bombing then I would agree this is a horrible month.

But these movies STINK.  What do you want from people?  People are speaking with their wallets.
