Napoleon overperforming, this bodes well for Joker 2
Is Phoenix considered a big star now off 'Joker'? You have to think Lady Gaga is going to add some extra interest as well possibly from demos that didn't care about the first Joker.

Looks like a great start for Nap.
Is Wish flopping?

and bring prestige. Apple didn't get close.
That's TBD. It's likely going to have Oscar buzz and bring people to the platform.

KoTFM is definitely a flop. Whether if you have no intention to make money in cinema or you have a deep pocket to loss have nothing to do if a movie is making its money back from theatrical run. Those are two separate matters.
If it was intended for theaters they would have ramped up the marketing for it and likely would have postponed the release date because it's the type of film that would have benefitted from Leo and others doing promotion. Unlike 'The Marvels' who didn't have any star power to begin with.

That's like saying Disney has theme parks, and Disney+ so the box office doesn't matter. If a movie is given a wide theatrical release it's meant to bring in box office relative to its budget.
You're wrong. KOTFW was never meant to be a wide release for Apple. It was a last minute change.

Is it a great hold because of the film’s WOM or more because schools out and it’s the biggest blockbuster out currently?
Where are schools out? Every school I've seen was in session Monday and Tuesday. Holiday weekend starts tomorrow.

I just don't think hitting the panic button is warranted because an MCU movie flopped and some other tentpoles had a rough Summer.
Barbie was a massive hit. Oppenheimer was a massive hit. Horror is doing well. The Nun II is going to be yet another profitable movie in the Conjuring movie verse. FNAF just had a huge opening weekend despite it being a same day streaming release.
There's other hits that I'm forgetting but the point is Hollywood just needs a little bit of a reset. There are movies that are selling and selling big but they are targeting different tastes than just comic books.
I think this could actually be GOOD for cinema.

I get that it's juicy seeing the MCU fail this hard but tbh when the franchise that sold itself on its charismatic actors has its biggest bomb when the actors couldn't promote it until it was too late, is it really a fair and square L?
Yes and if anyone believes that Brie Larson going on a little media tour would have added hundreds of millions or even tens of millions then I would say they don't understand box office.

Yeah but the flops outnumber the hits, BvS killed JL's hype, it flopped on its opening weekend
Because of the studio turmoil. If not for the studio turmoil and them making it clear that they were going in a completely different direction, the movie would have did far better business.
Instead of trying to please the fans they had, they pleased nobody.

That movie still killed an entire cinematic universe, there's been more DCEU flops than hits since BvS
It was more so the studio that killed any chance of a connective universe working. Instead of doing a complete 180 with Josstice League, they could have made some more minor changes and in my view would have did way more than the $600M that did..
Even so, Wonder Woman, Suicide Squad and Aquaman were huge hits.

The fact that BVS is not even in the top 10 biggest second weekend drops for comic book movies anymore 😭
Those threads went on and on for months and months at a time and in the end, it's a movie that isn't in the top 10 of worst second weekend drops and it made $875M worldwide.
Some of these movies coming out would KILL for those numbers.....

'The Marvels' 77% drop
'Ant-Man 3' 70% drop
'Thor Love and Thunder' 67% drop
'Doctor Strange 2' 67% drop
MCU's legs haven't been the best in a while.

That looks like some bullshit to me. I think Thanksgiving beat it out Lol.

Hunger Games should be able to get to $125M right? Not sure how it's doing overseas yet but on a slimmer $100M budget it looks like it will at least make some money for LG.

Through there are plenty of mega-flops this year but I can't shed the idea that the Flash was the bigger embarrassment
Nah that was a flop we've seen before. There's never been anything like 'The Marvels'

If it blows up on Tiktok, the youth will want to see it, but The Marvels has lower traction there than FNAF. MCU marketing department is too accustomed to blowing up on Youtube and Twitter only. Both platforms in which they are mercilessly shamed.
The games are popular with a younger generation. Some superheroes like Spider-Man and probably Batman (or a villain like Joker) will transcend generations. Spider-Man is still cool because of video games and memes and now the Spiderverse animated movies. You can see how the character is marketed towards kids and adults all the same.
Who is Captain Marvel for? I think that's the bigger question here. 'Wonder Woman' the first time around had what around 50% audience was women? It was able to capture a lot of women who don't normally watch superhero movies.
Who is Captain Marvel for?

Captain Marvel was enjoyable and way better than Aquaman imo. In fact, Aquaman was genuinely bad. The fact that Aquaman 2 will do more than The Marvels speaks to my theory that it's not about the quality of the movie that made it flop
I don't want people to think this is turning into franchise wars. Your post sounds like a conspiracy theory. It's fine if you liked one more than the other, that's only your opinion. It means nothing for anyone else.

If not even Marvel is a selling point anymore, what makes anyone here think the final movie of a dead franchise stands a chance?
I actually think Aquaman 2 is going to make quite a bit more than 'The Marvels'. It will still be a flop but it'll make more worldwide.
-
I just don't buy "the box office is completely dead and kids aren't going' when FNAF just made over $80M opening weekend while it was running simultaneously on Peacock.
Hollywood needs to make more movies that people want to see. That's all there is to it.

So The Marvels is gonna have Shazam 2/Flash type of legs after all.
Man, what a gigantic flop.
'The Flash' ended up with $270M. A huge flop but I don't think 'The Marvels' is getting anywhere close to that. It's going to battle it out with 'Birds of Prey' who some might remember was cut a little short due to COVID.

The box office overall is definitely top heavy but I think with so many tentpoles bombing it does open the door for some lower budget movies out there. Horror, for example, is having another great year.

It's clear that audiences think that this is a trash movie which is hilarious after all the astroturfing from social media and Reddit going "but it's so fun! breezy! Iman Vellani is a star!"
The late rush in reviews to get it from Rotten up to 62% was a little odd to me. It was almost as if some critics felt bad for it.

Deadline was WAY OFF on their Friday estimate for The Marvels. Did Charlie ever tweet out an estimate for it?

I disagree with that. Dinosaurs sell. Fast X still did over $700M this year. The Dinos would have been fine.
