Absolutely worse case scenario for Pixar is a downsizing which I suspect WDAS will get too in order to maintain profits for the next few films. I think Strange World they’ll do theatrical anyways given how barren November is outside of Wakanda and the performance of Minions 2 will have a factor (I can see Chapek trying a day and date announcement at D23 for all future animations but back out a few months later due to outrage from the workers and creatives) will indicate where they move forward, but I think they will continue theatrical.

There’s a solid chance this not only does under Encanto but under The Bad Guys worldwide. I don’t want to hear “it’s relatively good when you see how other animations did”, this is a complete and utter failure. No beating around the bush. Don’t think all Pixar movies will go to Plus (maybe a few) but I do think a downsizing is possible.

It feels much better in presales though, it’s been outselling Lightyear with ease at Marcus and Minions isn’t presales dependent.

No it’s not a matter of that I think action animation is a hard sell and the competition of Guardians and Mermaid which both will do 400m+ domestic will squash it out.

Yes but Guardians wasn’t really a known concept to the GA. Whereas Solo and Lightyear were, and it doesn’t help action/sci-fi animation is a much harder sell.

OS for Lightyear is rough as every market but Latin America seems bad, hell there’s a very real chance it goes under The Good Dinosaur. There’s no beating around the bush, this is a flop.

Encanto is still a theatrical bomb there’s more leeway though as Omicron was on the rise then and original property. Lightyear as an IP though with no rise yet has no excuse even though it’ll gross more, it’ll be under 400m ww with a small chance at going under 300m and maybe barely do over 150m domestic. That’s not good on a 200m budget.

You do realize Disney has the largest family library of all the streamers right and the fact a lot of families would likely watch SW and MCU stuff too which would be on at about the same time? I do think the 60 day plan is the most likely and makes the most sense but it’s laughable to think a mass exodus would leave if they had to pay after 45 days.

The sequel will release November 14th, Y9 as well as Tina Gordon returning to direct, as a new plot is revealed: Amelia and Malcolm over the past two years have found love with each other and a successful fashion company, but as Malcolm plans to propose, the couple deal with an impromptu family get together between Amelia’s high class parents; Michelle (Thandiwe Newton) and Booker (Idris Elba) and Malcolm’s family (his mom, Coco (Regina Hall), his dad Jackson (Ice Cube), his rowdy siblings Diana and Junior (Lyric Ross and Keith L Williams) and wildcard grandpa Hyde (Samuel L. Jackson). A rerelease with ten extra minutes of never before seen footage for Romance Road will be released at the start of Y9, in an effort to push Romance Road to 100m domestic.

Not really, I’m cool with any animation doing 200m domestic even though I despise Illumination. A win is needed. Also makes a Bad Guys 100m fudge more likely.

To be fair, I think with Minions it’ll overindex in the day and underperform at night as again it’s skewing far younger and likely draw more families than Lightyear in exchange for less GA to compensate. Unlike Lightyear, Minions doesn’t need good reviews and WOM to succeed, all it needs are kids.

What kind of drop is Bad Guys looking at? Is the weekend over or under 1M?

Again those markets that Lightyear got banned in, TS4 made at most 40m. They don’t need those markets anyways.

I truly pray at least a window as long as Bad Guys for animation (70 days is dope). It comes to the point where waiting it out becomes inconvenient. If Strange World, Elemental and the rest of the library are praised and have large exclusive windows, it could bounce back. The latter is just the hard part.
