I believe Disney bought Fox to increase its library for its streaming service. If they want the first two they could’ve made a deal.

Yeah. Something tells me Searchlight and Fox will survive. Sure Disney has Fox’s library of old shows and movies but that means jack shit to the consumer, which is why they want/need new content outside of the Disney label. Their streaming service won’t survive if they cater to just the fans and families without shows like Bojack Horseman or Stranger Things in their and Disney knows that.

If they want a strong streaming service to compete with Netflix and Hulu they can’t just cater to families. Which the only reason why’d they want Searchlight and the Fox label to live.

Yep. X-Men are the most important thing their future is secured, sure the Searchlight division and the other franchise Fox owns have a rocky future, the financial and monopilial implications, the thousand of people who’ll lose jobs and the small theaters will hurt, but they’re all minor issues. X-Men will be “good” again. (I’m happy to see F4 and XM in the MCU but there is bigger issues to worry about since that future for F4 and XM will likely be the easiest path and most secure compared to everything else in the deal)

Yes and No. I’m pretty sure apart from Avatar and the Marvel movies Fox has, Disney is uninterested film wise of whatever Fox has and largely focused on brands, but at the same time they know their streaming service needs adult content to survive, sure they can import the older TV shows and movies but they still need new adult content, I’m pretty sure Searchlight and Fox will continue but at the same time the output would be lesser than usual.

I’m pretty sure (80%) That Fox and Searchlight are the new Touchstone and Miramax. They can’t have a strong streaming service if they cater to just families. Something like 15-18 a year wouldn’t surprise me. However I agree with you.

That being said of my “leaning on against-neutral” stance, this deal is fucking awful for consumers and especially theaters.

Monopolies on this scale are bad for everyone no doubt but it’s inevitable that someone would buy Fox. I am pissed mainly because Fox is the best of the main six in my opinion in film making and in fact a lot of films from Fox made my top 10 this year 2 are in my top three and it gives Disney a shitton more power and if the stories from @DAJK are true, theaters are fucked the most. But I am indifferent because it’s capitalism, the big fish eats the little fish and a bigger fish eats the big fish in return. There’s nothing we can do.
