Well if you don't like us "woke admins", then feel free to leave and go to another forum. I'm not leaving anytime soon, and I think you will be much happier if you post in a forum that doesn't have "woke admins" in it.

I find these kind of posts fascinating. There's a point where you go so woke that you end up going full MAGA. This reads exactly like something Trump would've tweeted.

Anyways,  this thread is a mess. Just came here to say I loved this movie, glad they finally got rid of humans and gave full monster on monster destruction. The CGI was really impressive (or was it that I was really excited about everything that was going on?)

They are hardly going to admit it wasn't successful. Use some critical thinking please.

The only way to stand by its success is to release the numbers. Mulan still hasn't been released.

They wouldn't keep doing it if it was a total disaster.

Had they felt like theater revenue was already a lost cause for BW and premier access had been a disaster (for Mulan and Raya), they would've gone with a standard Disney+ release that would've reached a bigger audience (and more likely to get new subscribers) as they did with Soul.

They must be seeing something that we aren't but Netflix ushered an era of not having to release any kind of number except for the occasional PR release with vague meaningless numbers.

I also have to say I'm not sure about the film's themes. First of all in the opening scene, are we supposed to think that Diana did something bad by finding an alternative route? To me that looks like creativity. And the idea that getting anything valuable without working hard for it is somehow immoral doesn't jive with me. Sometimes you luck into things, and there's nothing wrong with that. I understand the message against greed and always wanting more, but I felt the film in a way took it too far.

I think they tried to go with "Diana tried to cheat after losing the chance to win" but was poorly executed (like a lot of other stuff in the film)

I actually thought they were trying to encourage people to not give up and find solutions to fix your mistakes and was kinda shocked it finished like that.

I find the over modding post-2016 on here has  just caused additional problems where certain mods seem to being go after people's opinions by enforcing certain rules that are increasingly vague and subjective ... Rather than focusing on the main purpose of a mod (I am a mod on a discord server) which is stopping racism or threats violence against each other.

These rules are not evenly applied or always enforced by the moderation team, which has just created further tensions and resentment in the user base.

I know people will not like what I said here but I been on this forum for a while and I feel this forum was a much better place with far less moderation and rules in the past.

All of these endless rules have not really stopped the toxicity and it seems to just perpetuate a victimization complexes on the numerous groups of users belonging to certain beliefs.

(stop the SJW turds on here! Stop the Alt right trolls on here! )

I dont have much faith that these issues will be corrected without censorship being enforced by the moderation team.

    Completely agree with this.

I don't think I ever posted in that thread (and just read it a few times, didn't find it to be really that toxic) but this is.... unpleasant.

People keep talking about Harley Quinn’s popularity being overestimated. I don’t think the problem with Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of one Harley Quinn) was Harley Quinn.

The studio did overestimate her popularity by making her the only hook of the movie. I didn't recognize any of the girls and even the soundtrack is full of trendy new artists that aren't a draw yet (except Halsey perhaps)

For a movie whose only selling point is "Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn" I'd even say these are good numbers.

  6. Maybe just anecdotal, but I couldn't see this on theaters because it played for like 1 or 2 weeks without any significant promotion (which says a lot because I was looking forward to see it and didn't even know when it opened).

Same thing happened with Hustlers (I did get to see on its last screening which I found out like 2 hours before it and luckily had the time) which is even more ironic since JLo is so big in Latin America.

So distribution does play a big factor when it isn't one of the Big 5.

"The Big Picture" podcast among others constantly says nobody takes the Globes serious and "I don't know why we even have them.."  but clearly 1917 winning for Best Drama and Best Director made people take notice therefore I would say the GA does take them seriously.

    Both sentences aren't mutually exclusive.

The globes can have a huge boxoffice effect and still be considered a joke. It's a big platform for the award contenders to reach general audiences (that's why it's such a big draw), both the globes and the audiences tend to choose the most popular stars / movies no matter if they're the best ones so of course it has a big effect.

Now I would say that the Oscars can be considered a joke too considering how often it's more about campaigning and narratives than actual merit, but it does have more prestige.

But award shows in general fall into one of these 2 categories anyways.

Probably the biggest reason why I stopped caring about the Oscars is the politics surrounding it. It's toxic, someone is always offended, and people are talking about anything but the wonderful movies cinema offers us. Which would be the whole point of these award shows, offering something different than casual movies to the general public and celebrating the achievements of filmmaking.

If anything, the Oscars prove each year that Hollywood is nowhere near as "progressive" as the media would want you to think.

Of course there's always some made up controversy with the media fishing for clicks (and Film Twitter fishing for likes) but the industry (and audiences) ends up loving great films without caring about the politics.
