  1. It might come as a surprise, but some people actially find Disney’s whole stable of ”Princess” family entertainment cringe-worthy, intellectually lazy, and just plain awful. That does not make them idiots. Also, why do you care that someone dislikes something you like?
  2. Disney cannibalizes itself like no other studio, and they laugh about it afterwards...all the way to the bank.
  3. Cue the Chris Evans/Chris Hemsworth/Johanssen fanboys who will tell you that those three pieces of balsa wood are the holy trinity of Oscar-caliber acting in superhero blockbusters.
  4. None of that negates the fact that he is a terrible actor with zero range.
  5. This will be a huge, HUGE tear-jerking smash with males. The story will soooo have men longing for/reconnecting with/crying over their own fathers. Just wait and see... ETA: nevermind...forget that; I assumed that the singer in the TV screen was the boy's father.
  6. Still there is no 100% foolproof way of knowing *one day* after any movie opening that it's wors of mouth is good or bad. Heck, seems like every week it takes less and less time after the very first showtime for people to declare ”WOM is out of thos world!!" Come on. WOM is a phenomenon that spreads among unbiased regular joe and janes, not among the typical person that will even know what Flixter and RT is ans will know how to prop it up or down.
  7. Word of mouth among staunch BATB fans/Emma fanboys who go on previews and OW is excellent because they are staunch BATB/Emma fans. We all know Cinemascore (especially for these huge properties with a built-in preexisting fanbase) generally has no bearing on the actual WOM that will determine legs and GA acceptance.
  8. There is nothing sexualised about that little girl in the context of this trailer. This ain't no Megan Fox situation.
  9. Looks awesome. And it is smart of them to bring in an element that may appeal more to women and girls.
  10. LOL When the men are action heroes, it's cool. When women are action heroes, it's dismissed as an “empowered female cliché”... Right. That article is just stupid; how awful and disgusting that women are not just portrayed as lovelorn, fragile ingenues anymore. Society is doomed.
  11. . The problem is that Scarlett's so-called acting is awful, one-note and lifeless. Theron was/is an insanely beautiful woman, but her acting is never upstaged by her looks because, even when she hams it up, she is still a great ham. She can act. Scarlett is gorgeous but has zero acting range.
  12. And why are people desperately clinging to «this is no Twilight!!! The demo split will be more even!!! Trust me!!!» What is so awful about heavily skewing female, like Twilight? I’ll tell you what is awful about that: absolutely nothing. Many of you seem to keep forgetting that this is an animated musical romance about an independent young woman who falls in love with a handsome prince (who is trapped within a beastly exterior) inside an enchanted castle. Were you truly expecting theaters to be filled with men for this?
  13. Why would anyone think that this movie would have the male demo coming out in droves? We may be open-minded cinephiles here who could give two shits about gender-based social constructs, but the GA is just normal people raised in a normal culture characterized by, among many other things, traditional ideas and notions. There is no way in heck that a princess movie musical romance in which its two most iconic images are a magic rose and a yellow ball gown is going to attract droves of males.
  14. This film has absolutely nothing that interests me, and in fact, I think it looks atrocious. Yes, as pretty-looking as a budget in the hundreds of millions will allow, but pretty in the inert, plastic, lifeless manner that a supermodel in Vogue looks. HOWEVER, thw so called magic of movies is a subjective thing that everyone will define differently. Some people will find magic in discovery and surprise, while others will find magic in seeing a beloved previously-existing property come alive in a different way or on a different canvas. That's a huge part of why comic book fans are living a dream with all the characters they cherish currently being adapted for the big screen. I am sure that for fans of the 1991 BATB it doesn't get more magical than seeing this remake take those characters to a new level, and I am happy for them.
  15. How soon before we start calling Emma Watson a box office star? Cuz we all know it was her mere presence what catapulted this obscure, forgotten property that nobody liked into the stratosphere.
  16. With all the 200 m predictions, I hope that a "mere" 140 milllion dollar OW is not seen as disappointing. Seems like a lot of people are way too enthusiastic in their expectations. 140 million would be insanely good.
