Aquaman up to $12.3M. Passing 300M lc this weekend.

Is been beating Bee on both Wed and Thu. $400M are pretty safe.

MPR is the one more affected for Aquaman's performance. Spiderverse needs screens to not to be hurt, but well, Bumblebee got a lot and still is struggling.

  2. Bee and Aquaman both placing at 2,500+ screens each one for the 5-Day weekend.

With exception of Grinch and Ralph, any other holdover is getting a several theater loss.

Hard to track Bumblebee, PS are weak for this one, we'll see how wom and walk-ups work. Expecting $120M+ for the 5-Day.

  3. DECEMBER 13-16 WEEKEND. AQUAMAN RULES THE WEEKEND WITH HIGHEST OPENING FOR A DECEMBER RELEASE. HOLDOVERS COLLAPSE AS HOLIDAYS ARE AROUND THE CORNER.

    Aquaman

    - Tops The Force Awakens by merely $2M to become December’s highest opener for 3-Day weekend –Episode VII still owns the record for the 4-Day-, 3-Day finishes near The Last Jedi’s 4-Day despite having a pretty similar opening day.

    - Second lowest result for a DCEU installment only above Man of Steel ($116.6M) but should pass $350M, after this one the DCEU is enjoying of its 5th consecutive $300M grosser. $400M is a long shot but isn’t out of the table given how good it was the OD-OW ratio.

    Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch

-Bad drop for the green creature, definitely cannibalized for audience with both Ralph and Aquaman, won’t make it to $300M with Bee, Poppins and Morales/Parker looming.

    # MOVIE WEEKEND % CHANGE TOTAL (MXN) TOTAL (USD) ADM. TOTAL ADM.
    1 Aquaman $134.45   $162.4 $7.99 2.3 2.8

Bad hold for the grinch ? Can It reach 20 M there ? considering Christmas around the corner

Both Ralph and Grinch had a big dive. Grinch always had $20M out of reach since OW but now even $15M are on danger. Bee, Aquaman, Mary Poppins and Spiderverse are targeting the same audience.

Is that mainly due to competition? in alot of over sea's markets its performing above all other dc films.

Hype isn't that big and people is been distracted with other things so there isn't any rush factor to see it. Sure, it has their audience but doesn't seem like a movie that is urgent to see. Really isn't something shocking, earlier i mentioned that could finish below other 2018's 4Q titles as Bohemian Rhapsody and The Nun.

Also, holidays hasn't started yet so it should leg good across them but not expecting anything extraordinary as it loses 1/4 of its screens this wednesday and close to 1/2 of them by christmas.

Apparently, Disney/Fox merger in Mexico is creating concerns about cable sports:

Should pass regulation, but i do wonder how much of Fox's TV content they'll be forced to exclude from the deal. Besides from ESPN and Fox Sports only another chain offers as much sports content as them.

They'll be forced to resign from other channels, mostly of movies/shows since those ones are concentrated between Time Warner, Fox and Televisa (local) and cable/satellite TV would have a considerable increase on prices.

Is it under performing in Mexico compared to other DC films~?

It does is quite underwhelming, 3-Day should finish lower than any other DCU movie but Man of Steel.

Not blaming buzz but is really a busy weekend in terms of other entertainment offer. Next week is going to be more important as kids go out of school, no sports offer and more people on streets due to Christmas shopping.

    Aquaman

    • Opening on a non-traditional Thursday, Mexico debuted to an estimated Ps 27.9m ($1.4m), including previews, on 3,517 screens with a 66% share of the top five films.

Not comparable to most of SH titles. Below Ragnarok and Homecoming opening days -both on thursday too- but it's on par with The Last Jedi.

I would say  $135M-$145M ($6.6M-$7.1M USD) for the 4-Day, Canelo's fight and soccer are hurting both their saturday and sunday.

  9. I guess this only strength Amy on Supporting Role; King was supposed to do well given her reputation among the TV sector of SAG. She won't have that support at Academy so those votes are moving to Adams and maybe Favourite ladies.

Black Panther, Bohemian Rhapsody and Crazy Rich Asians... i guess they really need to up ratings otherwise don't understand those noms

  10. https://variety.com/2018/film/news/roma-mexico-theates-netflix-1203087089/

Variety wrote about Roma's success in the country, it keeps playing at 96 screens across Mexico.

Something they didn't mentioned is that Netflix has made an interesting idea: movable theatres to take the movie to small towns and communities.

    Something like this:

What's also interesting is that many of tha places where the movie is being shown the prices are incredibly low and some shows are even being free -like the one in ex-presidential residence- which shows that beyond trying to collect BO what Netflix wants is make the movie as loud as they can.

Hi Carl, any prediction (in $)for Mary Poppins and Aquaman?

$18M+ for Aquaman, can see it as high as $22M.

$12M-$14M for Mary Poppins; doesn't stand many chances of overperforming when competes with two SH titles. Although it might be a huge appealing for female audiences.

Somehow i see this winter reminiscent to last year's:

Aquaman = Jumanji. Crowdpleaser action movies leading as the highest grosser of season.

Mary Poppins Returns = Greatest Showman. Another crowdpleaser but anywhere as big as the #1.

Bumblebee = The Last Jedi. Damaged franchise that gets audience stolen by two competitors.

The big mystery to me is Into the Spiderverse.

Lots of movies are going to end in the 300-400M lc range. Hope Aquaman reaches Wonder Woman levels.

Any news from Roma? Seems to be shown only in cinetecas and such.

Hope so too. Second weekend is going to be key. Opening is going to be weakened due to Canelo's fight on saturday and football league's final on sunday so wouldn't trust much on it.

It's playing at Cinetecas and small independent chains and art-house theatres but they didn't report numbers beyond opening weekend (Over $300K cumulative after September limited release at two theatres).

300M lc currency for The Grinch?

Huh, would anyone sign for a "Grinch in Mexico > The rest of Latin America combined in USD" club?

Although now that I checked it wouldn't even be close...

It's incredible to see how much it tanked everywhere but Mexico across the region. I guess nostalgia from live-action in here is big compared to other countries, plus, Derbez facor.

  14. It seems that unfortunately Bohemian Rhapsody won't make it to $400M, but at least is the highest grossing Fox title that's not part of any franchise. Great achievement.

Aquaman, just like any previous first solo SH movie, is being low at presales and is going to rely on walk-up sales and word on mouth. Social media activity is strong, should pass $150M on 4-Day opening.

The situation for Aquaman is the same for Bumblebee and Mary Poppins Returns, however, none of the last two is having the same level of buzz and awareness as the DC film. We'll see how they go.

  15. DECEMBER 7-9 WEEKEND. GRINCH RUINS RALPH’S TOP SPOT; THE DISNEY ANIMATION PASSES $300M LC AND LOCAL OPENER DISSAPOINTS.

    Dr Seuss’ The Grinch

    - Well ahead of any Illumination title that isn’t named Secret Life of Pets or that isn’t part of the Gru franchise. Should pass $300M but that’s pretty much it, winter holidays start until Dec 20th and by that then it’ll find an already crowded market with Aquaman and Bumblebee.

    Ralph Breaks the Internet

    - Took a big hit with Grinch’s opening, very unusual for an animation. Today passes Zootopia’s title and it’ll become Walt Disney’s Animation highest grosser.

    # MOVIE WEEKEND % CHANGE TOTAL (MXN) TOTAL (USD) ADM. TOTAL ADM.
    1 Dr Seuss' The Grinch $109.5   $109.5 $5.40 2.07 2.07

    10 Widows $3.8 -59,05% $18.14 $887K 53.55K 275.74K

  16. Mortal Engines has been moved to Jan 1, but now it'll face Creed II and Once Upon a Deadpool. Warner probably is going to drop the ball even more for Creed II (big mistake a la Disney with Christopher Robin) and OUAD might open only at select locations unless Fox takes a bigger risk.

It amazes me that there's a chance that Bohemian Rhapsody ends up being the highest grosser of the last bimester. I mean, there's a chance for Aquaman to surpass it but among big competition it's going to need stellar legs.

Bumblebee, Mary Poppins Returns and Into the Spiderverse should be fine but not expecting any overperformance to be honest.

And finally, is it too soon to call out Glass as the first record-breaking title of 2019? It's coming for that January record.

  17. NOVEMBER 30-DECEMBER 02 WEEKEND. WIFI RALPH REPEATS ON TOP WITH A DECENT DROP. INSTANT FAMILY DOES WELL AS A COUNTER-PROGRAMMER AND ROBIN HOOD OPENS MEH.

    Ralph Breaks the Internet

    - Still running 51% ahead of Zootopia at the same point after release and should pass its total by next Monday. Should pass $350M but with Grinch looming its fate looks uncertain.

    Instant Family

    - Running 22% behind Wonder at the same point of release, the comp is perfect: both held previews a week before its opening and work as counter-programmers.

    - If holds the screen loss due to the imminent competition of a crowded December could leg towards $100M+
