Actually had a family relative just now confidently tell me this movie is anti-men and promotes transsexuality. I asked if he'd seen it and he said no. Sigh.

Basically a part of country gets their news from Fox News or social media influencers. Some of these influences are honestly freaking garbage...they intentionally lie about everything and keep feeding their followers lot of bad faith propaganda. This dude is one of those influencers and honestly one of the biggest scumbags I have seen on twitter. Amount of bs he has been tweeting since the weekend is insane...it's not just about Barbie, he has also spread lot of bs about Oppenheimer too.

i don't think it's fair to generalize Conservatives and Christians just based on Ben Shapiro's actions who himself is not even a Christian. Afaik, Ben is the only prominent celebrity among American right that did stupid stuff like burning Barbie doll and had a meltdown regarding movie. Some other people like Ted Cruz were crying on the movie but no one else prominent other than Ben were burning dolls.

How on earth does this have a budget of $157.8m???

i posted the exact same question in previous page lol. Apparently its a similar case like Indy as the movie has been in development for more than a decade and had multiple director, script changes during this period which contributed to the bloated budget. This has all makings to join Flash, Indy in the bomb list

It's interesting. If I remember, TGM skewed more heavily white, too? So, does this mean there is a section of white people who only come out for white-led films (e.g., TGM, Barbieheimmer - even Indy, which is a bomb, still skewed heavily white) and/or does it mean more people of color tend to come out for films with more diverse leads (Spiderverse, Mermaid, even GOTG3)? Really interested in what the diversity demos for Haunted Mansion will be.

I will say, as someone who enjoyed both Barbieheimmer movies, I have found some of the rhetoric around Barbie curious. Not so much on BOT, but I've seen comments about how "this is what happens when you cast correctly/perfectly and don't mess w/ people's childhoods," which feel like subtle digs at TLM.

I don't think the people who came out for Barbenheimer are necessarily the same people who came out for TGM. Oppenheimer  skewed lot more caucasian than normal but it also skewed very young (18-24 yr olds) and also quite urban heavy. These young caucasians who live in urban areas are lot lot more liberal than caucasians who turned out for TGM who were lot more older and less urban. Oppenheimer did not have a big turnout from rural/middle America like TGM did. You might find more overlap in Sound of Freedom vs TGM audience than Oppenheimer vs TGM audience

This weekend sold R$113.2M on the box office and 5.3M tickets, an increase of 276% over the last weekend. Outstanding weekend that despite the massive overperformance of Barbie the whole top 4 overperformed. I don't have data to support, but I believe this was the best weekend of all time?

Barbie had the third best opening of all time, the best for Warner, the best for a non-comic book and the best for a non-sequel. Despite coming in third it beat the occupancy of Endgame and NWH, giving Barbie released in 2050 screens vs 2800 of the other two. Don't be upset it did not beat NWH, giving the rollout that was the best possible result.

Oppenheimer had the second best debut for a Nolan film, losing only to Dark Knight Rises, that opened to R$13.5M.

MI7 have passed 1 million admissions and Elemental 3 million, after excelent holds for both. Perdida despite good WoM dropped a horrible 90%. The bad release date made it lose all of its screens and female audience to Barbie. Despite this, it will become the third best selling brazilian movie soon.

Next weekend releases Haunted Mansion, Kandahar and Consecration. Joy Ride will be holding previews.

that looks like a very good hold for Elemental despite the Barbie onslaught this weekend

I think the only films to open over 160m and miss a billion are Batman v Superman, Wakanda Forever and Multiverse of Madness...

Saturday to Sunday drops for these movies were 33%, 27%, 33%. Barbie's Sunday drop is in a whole different territory. TDK is probably the best comparison I can think of. It opened in Mid-July, had a 47.7M Saturday and 43.6M Sunday.

  7. Woah....Charlie says 44.5-45M Sunday for Barbie...amazing Sunday hold. Guess this is not as frontloaded as what some other claimed earlier in this thread. Saturday not increasing much from Friday probably mostly had to do with capacity issues
