The Young Avengers news and 1st lineup - that's not working on distraction yet...
The Young Avengers will never happen. Never.

I have a difficult time believing that The Marvels didn't cost at least 250M, even after any tax rebates.

Black Adam would have made Shazam 2 numbers without The Rock. It would have made close to Ant Man 3 numbers with a China release which was hyped due to the Kang/Multiverse stuff. The Rock is clearly a draw
Where did I say that The Rock isn't a draw? The Rock is a draw and Black Adam still wasn't a hit because of its bloated budget. Both things are true.

61% of the audience was men and people on Twitter are blaming men, why? Please don't respond to my post with anything misogynistic. I'm a Lefty. I'm really just trying to get into the mindset that blames men when it was women who didn't show up.

63M seems high? I don't think so. It's a ridiculously low number. Maybe the film just didn't drop 80% everywhere.

Black Adam was a flop with so-so word of mouth. Stop this lie that it was a hit and that we need to apologize to the Rock. It's not our fault that Black Adam had a bloated budget. It's the Rock's fault.

I wonder what Feige/Marvel Studios will release to media outlets to distract people from this whole fiasco.
My friend guesses Fantastic Four casting.

I was never a fan of the Captain Marvel franchise but I do hope that the fans just enjoy The Marvels. You can enjoy box office bombs or flops or disappointments. It's art, there is no law against that.

So you’re saying give a hot puppy-like boyfriend in need of saving to Cap Marvel and watch women pouring in? Hmmm, I’d buy a ticket for that.
I fear that my feminist card is going to be taken away if I say yes but I'm just going to say yes. Yes I think 90% of women like looking at attractive men.
EDIT: Okay, I get the feeling that Brie Larson wants the character to be a Lesbian so not Captain Marvel herself but Monica? Sure.

52 pages. I guess the frenzy predicted by the hyper-cynical thread title never materialised.
I think people only like getting that crazy with DC movies.

The demographics revealed by Deadline are interesting:
Other diagnostics on The Marvels: 65% male leaning, with 45% men over 25, 22% women over 25 (giving it the best grades at 82%), men under 25 at 20%, and women under 25 at 14%. Biggest demo was 25-34 at 33%. Diversity demos were 36% Caucasian, 27% Latino and Hispanic, 17% Black, and 14% Asian. The Marvels secured all of the PLF screens and IMAX, which rep 38% of the weekend’s take. The movie is playing best in the South, South Central, and West with the AMC Disney Springs the pic’s no. 1 venue, with close to $91K so far.
I should this movie seems to be low on femal audience even compared to other MCU movies.
Remember when Aquaman pushed hunky shirtless Jason Momoa and got a huge female audience because of that?

Is this for real? I thought 200m OS was possible
With all due respect, why would you think that? The film is routinely opening with 75-85% less than Captain Marvel in most markets.

The Marvels flopping will kill the Captain Marvel franchise and maybe a couple of MCU movies in development but that's about it. It's a myth that Batman & Robin killed comic book movies. Comic book movies never died after that film was released.

how come the Russo brothers and screenwriters Markus and McFeely barely given credit and why have they not been hired to make more Marvel films? They made some of the highest grossing, fan and audience beloved Marvel movies and did an incredible job handling large casts, delivering terrific action and balancing the right amount of drama and humor.
Even though I'll never forgive them for The Gray Man, I do believe that they deserve credit for their great MCU work. Winter Soldier, Civil War and Endgame were great and Infinity War was good, in my opinion. They were great solid journeyman directors for the MCU. I get the vibe that Destin Daniel Cretton could be another Russo type director for the MCU provided he isn't forced to direct a script from anymore Rick & Morty type of writers.

The Marvels is another Birds of Prey, except WB were smart enough to only spend 80M on that picture. And WB usually isn't smart with its money so that's saying something. Lol
Will The Marvels sell a similar amount of tickets as Birds of Prey opening weekend?

Well it’s not like she elevated the material. She brought not real charm or charisma to the role. Emily Blunt could’ve pulled it off better with the same material.
Agreed. Someone like a Blunt or like an Emma Stone would have nailed it. Not necessarily talking about the sequel because I have not seen that yet and it wouldn't be fair for me to review a performance that I haven't seen.

This could get ugly fast. Hopefully, Marvel learned from the mistakes of The Marvels and don't proceed with Young Avengers film. Could that film even do $300M? I'm not so sure
A Young Avengers movie would make $12 at the box office. Feige would never.

MI7 disappointing at the box office won't stop you from getting MI8, so who cares? The Suicide Squad was a huge bomb and it may be my favorite comic book movie ever. I don't care that it bombed because I never wanted a sequel anyway.

The Flash was also paraded around by Warner Brothers as a high quality game-changer of a film.
As for this film? Both Disney and Marvel have been quiet about this film, only doing the bare minimum to promote it.
Eternals was promoted a similar way. Studios can get highly obnoxious with marketing and embarrass themselves. News at 11:00.

Please stop peddling the falsehood that Wakanda Forever wasn't a success. Like it or not it was one of Marvel's few true successes in Phase 4/5. I do think that any sequel will have an uphill climb at keeping that audience though.

This weekend isn't even remotely boring. A sequel to a 1.1 billion dollar hit Marvel movie is about to struggle to make 200M worldwide. How on earth is that boring?

In hindsight I believe The Marvels just looks too much like Ms Marvel in its promotional material. I love MCU Kamala and the first two episodes of Ms Marvel but the show just didn't hit. Making your 220-250M movie look like a sequel movie to a television series that didn't do well was not a great move. Mega blunder by Feige.

The real cope on Twitter is the idea that Brie Larson going on Jimmy Kimmel and eating hot wings on YouTube would have brought the film an extra 500M.
