  1. It's not the jumping on the couch stuff from 2005 (honestly, I never got the big deal about that. I was always more impressed he jumped from a seated position onto a couch). It's the 2015 stuff with Going Clear and Leah Remini's book. Now, she has an Emmy-winning TV show exposing Scientology and it's about to begin its third season (people are watching). Leah has called Tom Cruise "evil" and "diabolical" (meanwhile she called John Travolta "a very sweet man"). She goes on all the late night TV shows promoting her book and TV show and people watch and they hear. I really feel like that has to come in play, BUT maybe you guys are right and it's a small percentage of loss. I haven't read her book or watched her show, but I saw Going Clear. I don't know...didn't really bother me, but I can see how some people would say "never again" to a Tom Cruise film.
  2. I am 100% sure the box office return would be higher if Cruise wasn't in Scientology, but you're right I have no proof.
  3. Really? I'm not sure what you guys are looking at, but yeah any mention of Cruise on social media will bring out the "he has slaves" crowd. It's an issue and no, it isn't going to go away. I am relatively sure it is why his films don't "blow up" at the box office, but even still, his films do very well. That's impressive to me. He has done well to keep quiet. It has certainly helped.
  4. All things considered, the Mission: Impossible franchise does very well. Understand that he is still extremely controversial and the “couch-jumping” incident is minor league now. There are people who will never pay to see a Cruise-led film because they think paying money for a ticket is the same as donating to an evil cult. I know at least one person who bought a ticket to a different film and snuck into Fallout (Moviepass users likely did that too). Personally, if I cared about how movie stars spent their money, I would never see a film. After seeing the behind the scenes work of everyone involved, how expensive it must have been, I went to see Fallout on a real IMAX screen at the Smithsonian. It was glorius. I still have real issues with this film, but not with the action.
  5. This movie started out ROUGH for me. It really thrives when Pooh & friends are on the scene, but when they aren’t? Let’s just say I could hear M:I-F next door and had the visuals in my head matching up with the sounds. But, you know what? I still preferred it to the Paddington films. Pooh is just more lovable to me and I never cared about Paddington as a kid. I would give it a 3/5.
  6. That audience score has convinced me to see it. I have A-List so I am determined to get the most out of it (hence seeing Fallout 4 times)
  7. I thought the trailers for Christopher Robin looked much better than the critically acclaimed Paddington series (those movies were terrible to me). I was shocked about the embargo and that’s what turned me off the movie. I still think it will open to $30M, though.
  8. I was not impressed by Fury Road. My mom had already seen it in IMAX 3D and absolutely loved it. By the time I got to it, it was no longer available in that format. I saw it in standard with my mom. She said it was much better in IMAX 3D and I missed out. I have always just assumed that’s why I am less impressed by it.
  9. This movie will struggle to $80M domestic and $350M worldwide. I still can’t believe they’re doing this.
  10. I’m surprised by this. The crowd was pretty small compared to other Tuesday night movies I have been to. But, I saw it Thursday night, Friday night, Saturday night, and last night was the most excited crowd out of them all. Breaking into applause 3-4 times.
  11. Tuesday night audience was smaller, but more excited than the weekend audience. Action is still worth the price of admission every time and I definitely have to slow myself down driving home. Definitely not going to surpass RN in total, though. The name I would like to throw out for M:I 7 is Kathryn Bigelow.
  12. I am a Tom Cruise fan. I’ve said it before, no one plays “afraid” or “scared” better than TC (which is ironic). I came to this realization watching World War Z. Brad Pitt’s stoic performance in that film really threw me off. When Cruise was running for his life in War of the Worlds, on the other hand, it felt real. He delivers great non-verbal performances. With that said, he was very hit or miss in Fallout and it wasn’t just him. Ving Rhames was awful. As a matter of fact...I only REALLY enjoyed Michelle Monaghan’s performance (also Rebecca and Angela). Everyone else was over the top. I’m not blaming the actors.
  13. I just want to reiterate how good the action in Fallout is. I rank it 3rd or 4th in the franchise, yet I’m about to see it for a 4th time. In spite of the overacting and terrible dialogue, this movie is still very re-watchable. I just saw a commercial for the Blu-ray of Infinity War and the action is so ridiculous looking now.
  14. Top Gun: Maverick is such a mistake. Like Tron and Blade Runner, Top Gun should be left in the 80s. Don't get me wrong, Blade Runner 2049 was great, but it still flopped. IMAX or not, TG: M will flop.
  15. If Fallout surpasses RN, that is a win. People should know what to expect from this series by now. When I saw people predicting $75 million OW, I was confused. My prediction was $45 million, so if it goes over RN that is a success. This franchise is very old and, let’s face it, Tom Cruise is very controversial. Especially in the YouTube age where people can watch interviews from 2005 like it was yesterday. $60M+ opening is a win and $200M+ domestic total would surpass my expectations.
  16. Ok. Just got back from seeing it a second time and I can confirm it was better on the second viewing (see it in IMAX if you can). The action is A1, of course. But, there are a few things about this movie I absolutely hate: So, my current ranking goes: Rogue Nation Ghost Protocol Fallout MI1 MI3 MI2
  17. I have a list of complaints with this film. I really don’t understand what people are talking about...this movie is not better than the last two. But, anyway, this was entertaining
  18. I thought there was no way it would open bigger than Rogue Nation. This is just not a beloved franchise for whatever reason. My review is, it's not my favorite. Long and weird. Some great action scenes, though. Going to see it again tomorrow in IMAX (saw it in Dolby Cinema tonight). Right now, for me, it goes: Rogue Nation, Ghost Protocol, MI1, MI3, Fallout, MI2.
  19. I have A-List. To see Fallout tomorrow night in Dolby Cinema would normally cost me $18.69. Then, to see it the following night in IMAX would be $17.69. To see it in 3D, $16.69. Instead, I am paying $20.95 (with tax) per month. A steal.
  20. When I bought my ticket on Wednesday, no other tickets had been purchased in the auditorium. When I got there (6pm showing today), I would say the theater was at least 50% full which surprised me. Movie was ok. Denzel is great in it (when isn't he great?)
  21. I feel like this movie will not open as big as Rogue Nation. Just seems to be an underrated franchise by audiences. I have tickets for Thursday night previews and the following night. I saw Rogue Nation 4 times opening weekend (but, never saw it again after that...I don't really watch movies at home). Based on what the advance sales look like at my theater right now, I'm thinking $45M opening weekend.
  22. I saw it in Dolby Cinema at AMC. The sound was fantastic, but (and since no one else is talking about this, I'm guessing it was the projector in my theater) the actors were outlined with a color...like an aura. It was distracting. I'm just going to assume there was a problem with my showing because the audio also cut out for about 2 minutes during a scene when there was no dialogue. Anyways, I think this movie is "underperforming" for two reasons. Number 1: Blade Runner (1982) is not as good as critics try and tell us. Number 2: Blade Runner 2042 is too long. Even though it was too long, I really enjoyed it. Much better than Blade Runner which I have seen twice, though not very recently. I recommended it to a couple of people yesterday and one of them said they would probably see it today.
