Greatest Showman down only 22% from last Friday. Extremely impressive considering everyone and their dog was off work or school last Friday. And the weather is worse this week too. That movie is having one hell of a run.

OUT OF TOUCH critics almost killed the buzz for this movie. Deserves way better reviews. Like any movie based on real life events is accurate. They review movies on their biases first merit second.

You're joking right?  Star Wars has never been a thing there and will likely never be a thing in China.  Obviously more money anywhere in the world is a good thing, but this isn't a series that will live and die on China gross.

If the China gross for the next FF movie suddenly tanks out of nowhere and the movie makes half of what F8 did WW, that's who would be worried.

Please don't act like they're not trying. There's a push with every movie to make it a thing in china, and it would be a thing if only the Chinese audiences iked TFA.

With Rogue One they hired Donnie Yen, with this movie there's a big marketing blitz, premiers. They even have a special version of the movie where they introduce the characters with title cards as they appear.

  3. Think this movie will have even worse WOM than Rogue One because of length, pacing and lack of action / not very exciting CGI heavy  action but also many  other things that  will make almost no sense to audiences that haven't seen the OT.

Don't know much about China box office , but Blade Runners opening weekend was 65% of it's total gross, wonder if TLJ will have similar percentage because of bad WOM

Whoever on Twitter said that needs to cite some solid examples of what they think they mean. At face value I laugh at trying to draw a parallel.

Star Was isn't doing anything cutting edge or new in it's story telling narrative.

Every film is at it's core fall of a ruling class(Republic) rise of despotic ruler (Empire). Swap sides, rinse and repeat.

    Knock yourself out.

    I stopped at

The Last Jedi” is a “Star Wars” for populist times and a kind of remake of the 2016 Democratic presidential primary that sides firmly with the left.

Sounds more like the very opposite to me, those people never really got Star Wars. Star Wars has always been about politics. Right from the get go. There are a ton of references in the original movies, from the obvious anti-fascist message of a rebellion fighting for freedom against an evil Empire, to a bunch of "backwater" beings defeating a technologically superior enemy (comparison to Vietnam). This is George Lucas we are talking about, he has always been a liberal who disagreed with certain political elites.

Nah Star Wars has been about archetypes as old as time. Even if people compared Sheev to Bush, his rise of power looks more like Ceasar or Hitler.

puting in some Nazi imagery for the bad guys isn't really a political statement when everyone sees the Nazis as the bad guys.

too bad theaters are forced to keep TLJ on the biggest screens. That probably won't happen again

Not only is there more interest in Jumanji, but they also have to give a bigger percentage of the ticket sales to disney, so it's like double loss, and it's the smallest theaters that gets hit the hardest by the 100 billion dollar corporation.

Then I read on twitter how Last Jedi takes sides in the class war and it's the populist movie we need in the era of Trump. smh

Weren't there critics and fanboys invited to the Justice League premiere?

    What the heck happened? :hahaha:

It was a fun dumb movie meant for kids, it didn't pander directly to the  critic class with unnecessary class war, veganism, and "toxic masculinity" bs. That gave it inflated critic score and at odds with the audience which is between 6-7.

Basically, we all have our favorites for personal reasons, even critics.

But when there's a consensus there are universally praised aspects that allow some films to rise to the top despite broad scrutiny.

Something like The Godfather has stronger or many more universally praised aspects than Live By Night even if Live By Night has aspects a few random people really, really enjoyed.

350 rotten tomato blogger hugbox isn't universal praise imo,  most of them have very similar views on everything, they follow each other on twitter then hang out in Star Wars themed parties after they were flown in by Disney  where they circle jerk and shape each others opinion
