He didn't mature shit.
He got caught with his pants down, and even got caught trying to delete the tweets.
He "apologized" with a typical, non-apologetic "I regret what I said" statement, and I bet that there's more to his "edgy" jokes than what meets the eye.
What grown-ass man in his motherfucking forties constantly "jokes" about children getting blowjobs and kids being raped?
Good riddance to the scumbag.
I am sure that some other pedophile, rape-excusing scumbag like him will eventually fund one of his future micro-budget horror films and all will be good.
BUt I certainly hope that he never gets a big-studio, big money gig ever.

A few of these tweets were posted a mere 18 months before Guardians came out.
But he was a kid, dude! Just an immature man pushing fifty (or was he in his early forties? Mid forties?) The point is he was young and immature and he has grown since then.

I have words.
Trash, despicable, revolting, indefensible, disgusting.
And yet people keep calling these "edgy, silly immature" jokes and saying that people should be allowed to grow and mature.
I mean, he made these jokes when he was just a young, immature kid in his early-to-mid forties, people!!
Just a kid!!!

Good starts for Mamma Mia! and Equalizer, even if neither one really broke out. The race for the top spot should be tight.
A 40 million-dollar weekend for a movie musical is not breaking out?

With Ant-Wasp and the Bee's lackluster performance and GOTG3 in shambles are DC fans making a comeback with Aquamans potential success?
LOL
And Shazam...don't forget that Shazam is getting a whole lot of positive buzz.
Maybe the tide is about to turn...

This century is gonna see so much progress happenning.
Be glad you are alive in those magnificent times.
Of course we couldn't have this thread without Futurist's awesome take.
Poor Gunn. Such a victim.
Such a poor, misunderstood genius.

"Edgy jokes"
Nah...
Condoning pedophilia, rape, and transphobia is not edgy or funny.
But carry on, Gunn apologists ("But he made two fantastic films!!! OMG...Leave James alone!!!")...

He is just trash of the lowest order (transphobic, pedo, sexist, rape-excusing trash) ,and he deserves the firing. Hope he never gets a decent gig in the near future...

Why would that make a difference?
Shouldn't all media be anti the stuff he was joking about?
But the poor victim (Gunn) made two MCU films, dude. He deserves to be excused for his...um...quirks...

Officially FIRED now
And I could not be happier!
Let GOTG3 go to a director that does not condone pedophilia and rape.

AWESOME.
Good riddance to bad rubbish.
But y'all keep defending the pedophile rape-excusing manchild because he gave you a talking tree and a CGI raccoon. I mean, that is good enough to excuse his...um...proclivities.

Jennifer Hudson as Grizabella sounds amazing.

Man, I saw this topic bumped, and I expected an announcement from Marvel firing Gunn from the GOTG3 gig.

I bet Gunn would like to direct a Power Pack or Young Avengers film....
Seriously, his blog and tweet feed (which luckily has been screenprinted before he deleted the incriminating evidence) is disgusting. Everything from "jokes" about being raped, giving BJs to children and "getting lucky" with kids to. The guy is straight up pedo trash. I am shocked that Marvel has not taken him off GOTG3 by now...

I also like the fact that Marvel zombies^^^ will defend a pedophile just because he's done movies for the MCU.

He is a so called edgy director...A shame he is forced to make save pg-13 comic book films for kids. It explains why the so called edgy and raunchy jokes in Guardians fall flat.....I bet he would prefer to direct an r-rated Deadpool film
He is going nuts on Twitter trying to "apologize" for those tweets and making sure that people understand that they were immature "jokes" from his past.
Hmmm. I bet that the suits at Marvel have already talked to him about the potential fallout of his pedo self being revealed...
-
James Gunn really posted those tweets?
Ugh.
Dude is truly gutter trash.

Scorching take.

Loved the trailer.
I am a guy and I am looking forward to watching this on OW.
Jlo is still hot as hell, and she still has charisma that lights up the sky.
Keeping my fingers crossed for a breakout.

Yikes. This looks like a student fan film, acting and all. When he said "fuck batman" I cringed.
It looks like a Greg Berlanti show as directed by Zac Snyder.
Why?
Why did they do this to the New Teen Titans?
If any DC property was ripe for a great live-action film, it is the Marv Wolfman/George Perez NTT run.
This is awful... is "Fuck Batman!" the new "I'm the goddamn Batman!"??? Yuck.

Part of me is concerned, but Wonder Woman 2 opens 4 (or 5?) weeks after the Joker film. Now unless the Joaquin Phoenix film totally becomes a pop culture phenomenon that captures America and does not let go of the box office, why would WW2 be negatively impacted?
I don't think the Joker movie will flop, but I think its box office won't be all that either.

Nah.
40 million dollar is a fantastic number for a musical starring a bunch of nobodies and released 10 years after the original, which, as beloved as it was, was never in need of a sequel. Who the hell was clamoring for a sequel anyway? The first film was a once-and-done story that closed the book on Donna's tale. Heck, everyone I know who loved the first film still was shocked they made a sequel.
Let's not sugarcoat it. People had forgotten about the original film, and sequel announcement was received with a resounding 'meh' bymany people (this board included); the only reason this sequel suddenly had people predicting huge OW numbers was that it got surprisingly solid reviews.
40 million is an amazing numbers all things considered.
