If the limited Scarjo wants an oscar so bad, she should team up with her best friend Woody Allen, again......:sparta:

I think that they should have done what someone else suggested: do some research and give ScarJo a co-leading role (maybe playing a substantially fleshed out love interest for Dante...a solidly written role that could land her a Best Supporting Role nod). That way you get the star you want to sell the film, but you get a newcomer transgender person in the lead role.

Oh, and first and foremost, get a fucking real director.

As long as Ashes gets a nomination, that’s all I care about. Not because I actually care that it gets a nom but I just want to see a dancing Deadpool perform at the Oscars with Céline. They don’t even have to nominate it. Just invite them to do this and I’m game:

The interesting thing is that Ashes will indeed get the Oscar nod for Best Song while BP will get zero nods for anything (just watch), which will be hilarious, because you know that all the MCU loonies as well as the anti-MCU loonies will go nuts over that, just like what happened when Suicide Squad won an Oscar.

    :hahaha:

And boy, do I hope that the Celine song gets the actual statue!

    Popcorn is ready...

Come one man, Wonder Woman is the citizen Kane/apocalypse now/The Godfather of the dccu and the few dc fans are oversensitive over it. Let them spew their bullshit, it’s the only thing they have left when we are living on a time when a “flop” Ant man movie will make more than a justice league film worldwide. Have some mercy on the poor folks, just say yes to everything they write.... 😉

Time to take this absurd "discussion" to the Franchise Wars...

  4. For everyone who expects Black Panther to get Oscar nods for BP, BD or BSA...don't say that you were not warned. No matter how much of a cultural phenomenon it was, it will not be able to overcome the "genre franchise" thing. Get Out and Dunkirk are not good comparisons at all and yall know it.

BP will get exactle the same amount of Oscar nods Wonder Woman got: zero.

  5. Oops.

I seriously thought this would debut with over 100 million (althought just barely, most likely around the same amount Wonder Woman made OW).

This number (barely over 75 million) is ok, I guess (How many films would kill for that?), but in the summer of 2018 (when MCU has never been hotter), it is kinda disappointing.

Oh screw that...it is very disappointing.

I just hope that its relatively low-key opening helps it reach an insane multipler.

Who knows, maybe it will do a Wonder Woman on us...

I am shocked that Scarjo chose Rupert Sanders to direct her desperate Oscar plea. If she was going to do this she could at least have gotten a real director.

Yeah, I have to admit that choosing the director of Snow White and the Huntsman and Ghost in the Shell is even more mind-boggling than her absurd idea of playing a trans man. What makes her think that this hack director will somehow make her limited acting skills blossom into an Oscar-level performance??

Are people still trying to use the star power excuse with Scarlett Johansson a year after proving that same excuse futile with Ghost in the Shell and Rough Night? Without or without the backlash, the movie is not gonna be a success. I have no grasping on how they are justifying a $30,000,000 budget for that movie with Scarlett Johansson when Scarlett Johansson is not big with moviegoers who go see those "prestige" movies to be honest.

Going by the tepid grosses of Rough Night and GITS, she is not big with moviegoers who like high-concept comedies or wannabe action blockbusters either.

A 35 million Friday will lead only to 85-90 million OW? I don't believe it.

    I see it more like, 35 Friday, 33 saturday, 28 Sunday= 96 million

But I can totally see this barely going above 100.

Regarding your last point, hiring Robbie to play a blonde, white woman, whether she was "poor and ugly" or not, isn't the same thing as this.

I highly doubt this film will cost more than $20 mil, due to the subject matter. In fact,  Scarlett will probably be a big chunk of the budget. Why couldn't she have just cast herself as a female co-lead? That would give the film it's star, and still would let them be able to cast an appropriate gendered actor.

It's obvious that this is the kind of role that she wants to pick due to the potential to be a "revelatory, astonishing transformation." You know....Oscar bait. That's all. Famewhoring at its worst, in search of the accolades that cisgender and hetero actors always get when playing transgender people or gay people.

Little thing though: she cannot act to save her life.

I say, let her do this and fall flat on her face, like Zoe playing Nina Simone.

The issue is that transgender actors/actresses struggle to get work because they are transgender, and whenever a high-profile transgender role comes along, it's for a cis white famous face seeking plaudits. That and Scarlett's addressing of the controversy wasn't the best look.

Then again, after all the uproar, I doubt this project will even take off now. Considering this is from the director of such classics as Snow White & the Huntsman (which also made him the rare director to become a tabloid item) and Ghost in the Shell, I doubt it'll be of any great loss.

I think Scarjo is trash, plain and simple. Her response to the whole thing shows how callow she is and what a privileged piece of trash she is.

I thought acting was about playing a character and that was done by actors. I don't know I guess maybe I must be mistaken.

This controversy is the epitome of ridiculous.

Let's see them make a Friday the 13th film in which, say, Demi Lovato plays Jason Voorhees; I would love to see your reaction to that.

Casting Scarjo as a trans man who also happens to be fat and ugly is just as ridiculous an idea.

  12. This will be as bad (or worse) than the crappy Nina Simone film starring...Zoe Saldana.

Will open and close and be forgotten in the blink of an eye, and ScarJo will go back to playing bland, useless sidekicks in Marvel movies.

Or maybe...she will come full circle and play Rachel Dolezal in a biopic of the infamous white woman who falsely claimed to be a black woman.

    Talk about a perfect role.

    :hahaha:

  13. I hate the Futurist's increasingly idiotic posts, but I certainly agree with his "transcend the genre" comment. I will never trust any filmmaker who makes a film (on any genre) with the intention of "transcending" said genre.

    Ugh.

If you feel that a genre needs to be transcended, do something else, something that is more "elevated," dude.

Something worthy of your skills or whatever.

Eh, when the original movie busts the frame so bigly, it doesn't make sense to hold the sequel to that same outrageous standard. E.g., "Empire Strikes Back" grossed about 64% DOM of what "Star Wars" did, about 55% if adjusted for inflation, but nodoby regarded it as a box office disappointment, it was a big smash hit that year, I remember it well.

Fallen Kingdom will have to do about $410m DOM to match that ratio.

Wait until Wonder Woman 2 opens and ends up grossing 350-365 million domestic (and 850 worldwide). Everyone will call it a flop and the end of a once-promising franchise blahblahblah.
