They did fine with Wonder Woman, though I have my doubts the sequel will grow. It might be a Spider-Man 1 > Spider-Man 2 situation.

Keep in mind Civil War's biggest new draws, Black Panther and Spider-Man, weren't established yet in the MCU (and Spider-Man was barely in the marketing). Now that both characters have headlined hugely successful movies, along with Strange's solo and the Guardians with two big films under their belts... it was just the perfect storm. Phase 3 is a success story for the ages.

Probably more accurate to say Civil War played like an Iron Man movie than an Avengers movie to be honest.

A year ago my thought was Avengers X Guardians alone guaranteed 210 million. The success of Homecoming, Ragnarok, and Black Panther only drove the momentum forward even more along with killer trailers.

I don't think I can get a good feel for A4's hype until the marketing starts. Not sure if it can beat IW's opening, but it should be close.

I mean people here are saying 2.5x legs, not 3+x... for a mega threequel crossover those would be great legs, but average overall for superhero movies.

I think the difference is IW kept increasing with tracking and is beating expectations. CW didn't. Having the biggest opening weekend ever is a far cry from having, like, the 7th.

The WOM is significantly better than AOU so I really can't see it missing 2.5x.

A character that everyone hated just a year ago thanks to Civil War.

I don't see it having JW-ish legs because of it's a sequel but also a pseudo-finale. Everyone and their mother rushed to opening weekend to avoid spoilers. JW didn't have that sense of urgency. Legs will be determined largely by repeat viewings.

2.5x OW multiplier should be good to go. Anything above that I'm not sure, especially with the 1-2 punch of Deadpool 2 and Solo next month.

As long as this movie ended up in my top ten Marvel films I would have been satisfied. It cracked my top 3.

Also I don't want to hear any bullshit about how Dragon Ball wouldn't translate to blockbuster movies when we're talking about the biggest movie opening ever composed of mostly B-list and C-list comic book superheroes.
