Paramount would be leaving a ton of money on the table moving this away from Xmas. Mufasa or no Mufasa.
Yup. I’d say Sonic is different enough from Mufasa to work as counter-programming, especially since theres no Illumination or Dreamworks film coming out this December.

Do you think The Godfather insists upon itself, WU?
Well, I do think it has a valid point to make.

Not even sure what the goal was here. If you wanted to look for negative review quotes, just go into the archives that these newspapers have that go back decades. It's not that hard.
Or just pull up Peter Griffin’s quote about The Godfather.

So I guess it wasn’t intentional then. That just makes it even stupider.

DanielRPK is pretty hit or miss, but assuming he’s right, it would mean the trailer would play in front of Beetlejuice, which does sound like a better choice than If. It’s also pretty much the exact same window that NWH had between its first trailer and its release.

I’m sure Lucasfilm will try to play things as safe as possible moving forward by sticking to the Favreau/Filoni model.

I’m admittedly not a big anime watcher, but the animation here definitely doesn’t look up to par with Studio Ghibli. It looks closer to a Netflix anime, which is fine for television, but for a cinematic release, it comes off as underwhelming.
-
That animation definitely does not look like something worthy of a theatrical release. This looks like it easily could’ve been a Max release. Also, beginning the trailer with footage from the Peter Jackson movies seems pathetically desperate. It’s not only nostalgia bait, but the way it’s presented almost makes it seem like a fake-out.

Wtf were they thinking? They honestly thought critics wouldn't notice made up quotes?
My only explanation is that they were deliberately trying to stoke controversy to get people’s attention. “No such thing as bad publicity” and all that jazz.

This movie is the gift that keeps on giving.

Star Wars was at its best when it was only 6 movies.
Star Wars was never “only” six movies, though. It was always a huge juggernaut of a franchise with a massive expanded universe and a ridiculous amount of merchandise, even under George Lucas.

What do you mean by this?
Clearly, he’s saying that Deadpool 3 not releasing in December is a modern day Hindenburg Disaster.

I still say November 2025 would’ve been an optimal time to release Spider-Man 4, but for whatever reason, Marvel and Sony have been stalling with it, so it’s anyone’s guess when it comes out. I guess December 2026 could work, given that Disney “only” has three Marvel movies scheduled for that year, and July already has Shrek, the Moana remake and possibly the next Christopher Nolan movie.
Of course, scheduling it there would mean that the Rey Star Wars movie would have to move, assuming it even gets made, and it would also be bad news for Dune: Messiah, or whatever movie Denis Villeneuve has scheduled for that date.

It seems like a no-brainer that this‘ll have a more female-skewing audience than the first one, although CBM’s in general tend to be more male-skewing, apart from the first Wonder Woman movie, so who knows how different this’ll be in that regard.
-
Now that we’re several weeks in, I’ll say this; in terms of being a (to be absolutely blunt) emotionally manipulative nostalgic fanservice fest, I was more taken in by NWH than I was by this. Admittedly, that’s probably more a consequence of the fact that NWH did it first, so D&W would obviously seem less novel as a result. Of course, NWH is also a movie that I and many other people would argue doesn’t really hold up great once you get past the initial rush, so I have no clue if D&W well fare better in that regard.
One thing I do know is that I don’t find Deadpool’s hyper-meta Reddit style humor to be nearly as funny or novel as it was in 2016, so I can’t say I was laughing my ass off when I watched this, but the crowd I was with definitely loved it.

Disney should have released Deadpool 3 instead of Mufasa on this date. Probably would've went above Maverick DOM, but oh well.
Are we going to say “it should’ve come out in December” for every big movie now?

Yeah, I read that after I made the initial comment.
Anyway, looks like we now have our answer for why he was fired.

So the highest grossing G, PG, PG-13, and R-rated movies officially all belong to Disney. That’s kinda scary to think about…
-
Whatever DeMayo did, I’m guessing that Marvel/Disney is trying to keep it under wraps as much as possible because he’s still credited for season two of the show, and they don’t want it to be overshadowed by that.
-
I wouldn’t be surprised if Feige considers Hugh Jackman irreplaceable, the same way he seems to consider actors like Willem Dafoe and J.K. Simmons to be irreplaceable.
Edit: Then again, BNW is supposed to introduce Adamantium to the MCU, so who knows?

Leaving the holiday spot would be pretty stupid if you ask me. I seriously doubt Sonic the Hedgehog is the kind of movie franchise that’s begging to be seen in IMAX anyway.

I’m officially at the point where I’m questioning the lack of a trailer.

The Emperor's New Groove is the only other one from that era that maintains a strong following, but given that its manic, joke-every-30-seconds energy is part of its appeal, it might be difficult to translate to live-action and also wasn't a massive hit at the box office in its day (it finished as the 26th biggest movie of 2000).
Yeah, that definitely wouldn’t work in live action, especially without Patrick Warburton as Kronk.

I'm gonna be bullish on this and think it'll be the highest grossing film of the 2025 Summer DOM. While the original Lilo & Stitch didn't make huge amounts of money compared to the Disney Renaissance 2000s nostalgia is at its peak + they nailed Stitch's design for live action which will be enough to overcome any remake fatigue.
Is there any other 2000s Disney animated movie that would even be worth doing a cynical nostalgic remake for? The only potential one I can think of is Princess and the Frog, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Disney steers clear of that out of fear of backlash.

Actually, the longest thread for a single movie is the BvS one. As for why this thread has so few pages, that’s because the bulk of the Avatar discussions on these forums were on the Avatar 2 thread.
