good for them ... I just hope when it comes close to release, all this madness about Pika 1B dom an smilar don't come along too (again). It was kind of tiring (similar to the Avatar-EG thing).

The sequel won't have to compete with anything as monstrous as EG so that's already a good thing and won't have all it's energy sucked away by it . Before anyone comes at me nothing is coming close to EG for a long time. 22 films in the making, the departure of the OG 6, it was a cultural event and won't be met for a long time.

If it gets to $150m, I think we'll get another Pokemon movie.

...A sequel has already been confirmed as happening. Ryan has read the script and special effects crew from DP have announced their return on sequel. We're getting another Pokemon movie.

When theatres choose to show one movie over another, it is usually because they anticipate the movie that they're showing to perform better than the one they aren't showing. It's not like Pikachu would have done insanely better if it had been given IMAX etc.

True but it would have made more money because IMAX is the most expensive.

Check out Xmen first class, DP is playing very similarly (Xmen day 25 monday was higher (though it was later in July) and it was running about 2m higher as well, so about 145m is probably the ceiling for DP

Again, this has just been a really competitive May/early June. DP started in the vacuum left by AEG and will end in the midst of one or two tentpoles releasing every week. A more accomodating release date and normal international exchange rates, DP could have easily been a 500m-550m grosser. WB will definitely take this into account when thinking about sequels

They already have the sequel written and special effects team returning.

All things considered DP has done good IMO. Today it'll become the highest grossing video game film of all time.

It had massive competition from get go and the competition was the 2nd highest grossing film of all time. Which even when DP came out theaters chose to show EG consistently whereas Pika would get solely matinees which clearly effected it's box office. Pika also did not have the benefit of IMAX like every other big blockbuster releasing in May.

Hopefully for the future pokemon movies they change that.

POKEMON had the only sub-50% drop in top 10.

SHAZAM benefited from KOTM or got into dollar theatres.

There not gonna come out and say movie underperformed or flop to the public

you need to take blinders. I quote posts of you saying movie is gonna do a billion or 600-700 million

    theatrically movie will be lose.

You have 150 million dollar budget with P&A of 125-150 million

275-300 million investment. Doing barley 400 million is underperforming

You honestly have no idea what you're talking about so I'm not gonna even entertain it.

All these excuses doesn’t change the fact that the movie underperformed lol

Only on this forum, nowhere else. Not BOA's on social media, not Forbes or Deadline. Not even TPC or WB say it, and they just put the TOHO GM on the Pokemon board of directors. So clearly they're serious about moving forward and don't believe in what some people in this forum say.

Detective Pikachu did underperform and so will KOTM

I don't think DP underperformed especially not like Godzilla. Let's look at what DP had going against it that Godzilla did not.

    1. The monster of Endgame was still around.

    2. Pikachu had it's best screens taken away by 3 pm to make room for evening Endgame showings.

    3. Pikachu did not have the benefit of IMAX.

Every other big blockbuster in May(JW3, Aladdin, Godzilla) has had the benefits of everything DP did not have. IMAX + showings on the best screens all day long. Pikachu had a lot of stuff going against it from it's opening weekend.

Godzilla had nothing going against it and everything handed to it on a silver platter to succeed.

I don't care, i want more Godzilla movies, and while Toho can make more but production of Hollywood is something different to watch.

I just hope GvK works really well so that they continue Monsterverse further.

Speaking of TOHO they've now officially joined the Pokemon brand as was announced at the Pokemon Press Conference this past Tuesday.

  10. I'm wondering if Pikachu would have been better placed in Godzilla's slot. Pikachu could probably handle Aladdin in way Godzilla could not. But Godzilla would have been eaten by Endgame though it would have taken a chunk of EG's IMAX screens.

Looking back I think Pikachu probably released at the best time, it's just unfortunate Endgame became the behemoth it was and theaters didn't give Pikachu much of a chance with taking away it's best screens after 3 pm and switching to EG at 5 pm nearly everywhere which effected Pikachu.

    Quote

I think if WB and Legendary had to choose which franchise to continue between Godzilla and Pokemon, the latter would be picked up as it has more potential and you could get away with reducing the budget.

With the gross of the first one, reducing the budget is not warranted, it is making a solid profit.

Speaking of this though the GM of TOHO is now officially on the Pokemon board of directors so I think that's a very clear sign of the Pokemon Cinematic Universe coming.

  11. This is ridiculous from Godzilla. The movie literally had every avenue of success.  The biggest possible screens, a massive amount of showtimes on said screens the entire day, yet it delivers this performance.

Also I don't agree with the comparison to Pikachu. Pikachu didn't have all the accessible screens. Pikachu was pretty limited from release. It had many of it's best screens taken away mid-day because of Endgame still being what it was, it did not have any IMAX. These obviously were going to be factors in how much money it made. Pikachu is doing good all things considered.

Godzilla had everything on a silver platter.

He's a great actor, I don't see why that's weird to comprehend. On top of that, he's already led a multi-billion dollar franchise before.

Let's be real man all they needed to make Twilight a success was to cast an attractive dude to play Edward. They could have cast anyone and it would have been the same success cause Twilight was massive back in the day and females would flock to the theaters no matter what.

They'd have to HEAVILY streamline that story in order for a movie franchise to work.

The best way to promote Kingdom Hearts film franchise is the historical return of Donald, Goofy, and later on Mickey to the Big Screen. Although the budget for that movie I have to imagine would be pretty big considering the mass amount of guest talent they would have to use.

IDK if it'd be live action or something similar to Advent Children but I think it could become a massive success for Disney especially cause of the massive Disney vibe of the historical Disney characters interacting and going to different worlds.

Though they'd probably have to condense to two-three disney world visits and 2 original worlds.
