  1. I think Ralph will have low numbers, the first movie did just 6.6 M EUR and the movie for what i'm seeing has done worse almost everywhere. I think Disney should have released it weeks ago.

Acquman will damage MP because it will take away a lot of screens and shows not because i see it so huge. I think it will end at around 8-9 M EUR because of the holiday season instead of 6-7 in the fall.

  2. I never understood the huge expectations for Mary Poppins when the remake of Cinderella, one of the most iconic princess and famous animation classic did "only" 550 M. I think Snow White, Cruelia, Dumbo, Pinocchio, The Lady and the tramp will do around these numbers (550-650 M, maybe a 700 peak). Alice was at the peak of the 3D age, the first live action of the recent series and with Johnny Depp and Tim Burton in their golden age as movie couple (the sequel was a flop!) while The jungle book is more an action movie and it was really an innovation for the special effects.

For the old school disneyan fables people have too much expectations, the children of their time are all almost dead after all 😂.  The 90's classics like the little mermaid, the lion king and aladdin are the ones surely in the 1 Billion+ club. I always seen Mary Poppins with no more than 600 M worldwide.

Deadline need to stop trying to compare Mary Poppins to Greatest Showman.

Of course MPR should be well ahead. It shouldn’t be a surprise. It’s not a shock that a direct sequel to Mary Bloody Poppins from Disney at Christmas really should be doing gigantic business.

I don't think the comparison is to say both are the same thing or they have the same relevance as brand but both are christmas musicals relesead year by year so the comparison is  really inevitable. MPR did a +100% than The Greatest Showman in the first week. It's doing a +100% and even more in the second week so again it's pretty normal to me to compare both titles to analyse where MRP could go.

  4. Netflix is "television".

I think since like ever in the really short term tv contents  can have more viewers than something in the theaters. How can you compare the different access for the people?

In the 90's E.r had 40 millions viewers for episode, a movie  would have done a 170M first weekend (in the 90s!!) with those tickets 😅.

The point is movies have a life in theaters, a life in home video, a life on demand, a life in Netflix, a life on cable channels, a life on broadcast free channels. A netflix movie has only one life: Netflix.

Talking about money: even with only 10 M tickets sold (so not 40M viewers) that  #1 movie in the 90s still made probably around 10 times the  money E.R did with the advertising that week

The time when a producer with a movie with a potential will release a movie only on Netflix because it will have more viewers in the first seven days is still very very far from here.

I guess my idea have a good time with the movies is not when you have 15 minutes of plot and an hour and 45 minutes or songs that you can't understand are not catchy are not entertaining or not worth listening to. And I guess my idea of a good time requires Mary Poppins to actually do something in the movie besides just entertain the kids for a little while. It just really irked me from start to finish. Did not like it one bit.

that's also the first Mary Poppins so I don't think is a bad concept to make money.

This movie shouldn't have existed at all.

Lost the Shay's time seeing it - and the punishment for this is being a total bomb at the B.O.! Never make such movies again. Fire the Disney guys who think they can just remake anything and made this...

And a big LOL at all who believed this niche nonsense to be comparable to big universal movies like Aladdin and Alita. Fucking LOL, guys. Pathetic. 😕

The second weekend will be bigger than the first and it will be probably a financial success only with the Us numbers  but let's call it a box office bomb i guess.

Actually after seeing Aquaman, I do find it crazy that they gave the imax screens to MP. Aquaman is one of the very very few movies that should be seen in Imax.

But uk people want to see more that iconic british nanny than the 329th american superhero of the year. In the holidays days the distance between the two will be bigger.

I don't know why people were expecting children to do 7 hours in a row to see Mary in the first day like the Jedi fans, children have a lot of things to do, they are busy 😂 Her audience is coming.

  8. Good start for that Mary Bish. Ready for Christmas,

I understand some of you want to see Acqua Man on Imax but you can't find so crazy they give the imax screens to Mary, it's a film with great visuals and animations. You act like they gave them to something like The King's speech 😅

  9. this franchise is not so popular only because of Abba popularity or Across the Universe would be the most successful jukebox musical ever. Abba music is perfect for this kind of story, characters, locations, style of comedy etc... The combination of all this makes it a perfect product for its audience.
